Among Satan's tricks is that he comes to you and says: "You are not worthy to engage in calling to Allah. Call yourself first, otherwise calling others while you have sins means you are a hypocrite."
The truth is, as long as you belong to the nation of Muhammad, peace be upon him, you are obligated to call to Allah: "You are the best nation brought forth to humanity, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong, and believing in Allah. And even though Allah knows that this nation will have those who are unjust to themselves. Then We gave the Scripture as inheritance to those whom We chose from among Our servants; among them are those who are unjust to themselves, and among them are those who are moderate, and among them are those who are foremost in good deeds by permission of Allah."
But all of them are obligated to call to Allah.
Rather, the one who exceeds in sin is more in need to engage in calling to Allah than others: good deeds remove bad deeds. The important thing is to be sincere with yourself, pure in your intention, and call to something you know, not out of ignorance. And at that point, you will rid yourself of your sins and shortcomings by the permission of Allah, and you will feel in harmony with yourself. You will live the pleasure of self-respect, and Allah will aid you with the blessing of your call which you engaged in seeking His noble face.
I personally had shortcomings. I saw that after I took up calling to Allah, I was rid of them by the grace of Allah. When I was in the shadow and did not leave a trace, occupying myself with minor matters was suitable for the small self. But when Allah willed that we take the path of calling to Allah, we saw that these minor matters were traps and shackles that stick to the mud and prevent one from flying. So, by the grace of Allah, it became easy to leave them. And there are still shortcomings in the self. We ask Allah to make us steadfast and make the shortcomings of the Muslims steadfast.
My brother, my sister, do not fall into the trap of Satan. Do not humble yourself with a negative humility and say, "It is not for someone like me to call others." For this means completing one shortcoming with another! Rather, draw near to Allah with calling to Him so that He may aid you in overcoming the shortcoming.
