Is the mind a valid criterion?

Valuable words by Ibn Al-Qayyim emphasizing the issue of making the mind a criterion by which the Book and the Sunnah are judged. Ibn Al-Qayyim said (with some abbreviation): (We say to all: with what mind of yours do you weigh the words of Allah and His Messenger, and which of your minds do you make a criterion for it? What agreed with it before and agreed with its appearance, and what contradicted it, did you reject or delay or...? Is the mind of Aristotle and his followers, or the mind of Plato and his followers, or Pythagoras, or Anaxagoras... Or Socrates, or Tamsios, or Alexander son of Philip, or the mind of Al-Farabi, or the mind of Jahm bin Safwan, or the mind of An-Nazzam, or the mind of Al-Jubba'i, or the mind of Bishr Al-Murisi, or the mind of Al-Iskafi, or the mind of Husayn Al-Najjar, or Abu Yaqub Al-Shahham, or Abu Al-Husayn Al-Khayyat, or Abu Al-Qasim Al-Balkhi, or Thumama bin Ashras, or Ja'far bin Mubashshir, or Ja'far bin Harb, or Abu Al-Husayn Al-Salih, or Abu Al-Husayn Al-Basri, or Abu Mu'adh Al-Tumni, or Ma'mar bin 'Abbad, or Hisham Al-Futi, or 'Abbad bin Sulayman? Or do you accept the minds of the later ones who refined the intellects and chose the best for their souls and did not accept the minds of others before them? This is the best of them for you, Muhammad bin 'Umar Al-Razi. With which of his intellects do you weigh the texts of revelation, and you see his confusion in them in his books is the most confused? So, pinpoint for us one mind from his intellects that is consistent, then make it a scale. Or do you accept the mind of the supporter of polytheism, disbelief, and atheism, Al-Tusi, for he has another mind that contradicts his predecessors among the atheists... Or do you accept the minds of the Qaramita, the Batinis, and the Isma'ilis, or the minds of the unionists who claim the unity of existence? All of these and their multiples and multiples of multiples claim that the clear intellect is with them and that their opponents have deviated from the clear intellect. These are their minds calling out to them in their books and the books of those who narrate from them. Were it not for the length, we would present them to the listener one mind at a time, and the scholars who mentioned the articles have already presented them. So gather them if you can, or take one mind and make it a scale for the texts of revelation and what the messengers brought, and a measure for that. Then excuse those who presented the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger, which they call the verbal evidence, against these disturbed and contradictory minds, as testified by their people and the supporters of Allah and His Messenger. And they say that the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger bring knowledge and certainty, while these disturbed and contradictory minds only bring doubts, confusion, suspicion, and compounded ignorance. If the narration and these minds conflict, take the clear narration and throw these minds under your feet, and let them be where Allah has placed them and where their owners have placed them).
