Episode 3
Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah. Dear brothers, we are still discussing the methods of falsehood in evading the truth when it fails to confront it with argument and persuasion. In the previous two episodes, we mentioned the method of (and mislead therein) and then the method of slandering the callers. The third method is demanding miracles from the Prophet other than the Quran. This is also an evasion. Otherwise, why do you demand a miracle other than the Quran when you have not succeeded in challenging Allah to you when He said: ((And if you are in doubt about what We have sent down to Our servant, then bring a surah like it and call your witnesses besides Allah if you are truthful))? If you had responded to this challenge and brought a surah like it, then you would have the right to demand a new miracle from the Prophet. But this is evading the confrontation with the truth. Among their demands are those narrated by the Noble Quran in Surah Al-Isra: ((And they said, 'We will not believe you until you cause a spring to gush forth for us from the earth (90) or you have a garden of palm trees and grapes, and the rivers flow through it (91) or the sky falls upon us as you claim, or you bring Allah and the angels as a host (92) or you have a house of adornment or you ascend to the heaven, and we will not believe in your ascent until you bring down to us a book we can read.)) (Al-Isra). Notice the stubbornness and impossibility in such demands, and even the bad manners with Allah as they say (or you bring Allah and the angels as a host). Similarly, the Quran narrates their saying: ((Why was not an angel sent down to him so that he may be a warner with him, or a treasure was given to him, or he had a garden from which he eats.)) What is the relation of all this to the truth of the message? And does the absence of these things invalidate its truth? Does the truth of the Quran depend on an angel being sent to the Prophet, or a treasure being given to him, or a spring gushing from the earth, or the sky falling? Of course not. But these people do not deal with evidence but with mockery and argumentation.
Nevertheless, Al-Bukhari and Muslim and others narrated from Anas that the people of Makkah asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) to show them a sign, so he showed them the moon split in two. But they still lied, so Allah revealed: ((The Hour has drawn near and the moon has been cleft asunder (1) And if they see a sign, they turn away and say, 'Continuous magic (2) )) (Al-Qamar). So the issue is not a lack of miracles, but rather following desires and turning away from the truth. Otherwise, the miracle of the Quran is sufficient. Allah said: ((Is it not sufficient for them that We have sent down to you the Book which is recited to them? Indeed in that is a mercy and a reminder for a people who believe.)) (Al-Ankabut) Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah.
