Episode 6
Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah. Brothers and sisters, today we will stand with the sixth method of the methods of falsehood in evading the truth. This method is the condemnation of facts merely because they contradict what people are accustomed to, without presenting them for thought and analysis. Otherwise, if they had presented them, they would have known that the wonder of all wonders is in denying them. We are astonished by a fact that astonished the polytheists in what the Quran told us in Surah (Ṣād) that they said about our Prophet, peace be upon him: ((Would he make the gods one god? Indeed, this is a wondrous thing (5)))... Is it reasonable that all these many gods are false and there is no god but one God? A wondrous thing...
Rather, the wonder is your wonder! Why should what Muhammad, peace be upon him, brought not be the truth and what you and your fathers have been accustomed to be false, which the old died upon and the young grew up upon? Come, let us discuss the matter and see where our minds and instincts lead us. One God or scattered gods? But they do not want to discuss, for they are incapable of that.
Be astonished by the fact of resurrection after death, and the wonder is their wonder. Allah says: ((And if you are astonished, then wondrous is their saying: 'When we are dust, shall we indeed be [brought] forth [as] a creation anew?')) (Ar-Ra'd 5)... This truth contradicted something they grew up on and inherited: that there is no life after death. Come, let us present it in the arena of analysis and understanding: ((Is not He who created the heavens and the earth able to create the likes of them? Yes, indeed; and He is the knowing Creator (81)) (Ya-Sin).
And they are astonished that Allah would send Muhammad, peace be upon him, as a human messenger. Allah says: ((Is it wondrous for the people that We have sent to them a man from among them, [commanding] them to warn the people and give good tidings to those who believe that they will have a sure footing with their Lord?)) (Yunus 2). They were content with their ignorance and the cessation of revelation, so they condemned that Allah would have mercy on humanity with His Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. It is not wondrous that Allah would reveal to one of His servants, but the wonder is that Allah would leave His creation until the Day of Judgment without a message that informs them of the purpose of their creation and establishes the proof upon them. And it is not wondrous that Allah would choose a man for this, but it would be wondrous if He chose an angel, as these opponents suggested. Therefore, brothers, when falsehood is unable to confront the arguments of truth, it expresses astonishment merely because the call of truth came contrary to what people are accustomed to, even though this custom and habit is not in itself evidence, but what they are accustomed to may be contrary to reason and what Allah has created people upon.
What then is our advice to us? That we present what we hear in the arena of thought and discussion and do not reject a principle or idea that comes to us merely because it contradicts our customs and what we are accustomed to and raised upon, which is not the Quran nor the Sunnah. And this applies to the methodology of dealing with events and taking positions and intellectual orientations, and other things as well. Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah.
