Reasons for chest tightness on social media
Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah. Dear brothers, when one of us is saddened, one of the greatest things Allah blesses him with is to guide him to self-reflection and correcting his mistakes instead of being preoccupied with complaining about others and blaming them. On social media, we may feel sadness and worry from interacting with some people and hearing their harm. Let us see the reasons for this in the light of the Quran and Sunnah: 1. Shortcoming in sincerity: One of us may habitually take likes, shares, and positive comments on the content he publishes as a source of self-boosting and motivation to post more. In doing so, he may forget to renew his intention, invoke sincerity, and make pleasing Allah Almighty the primary motive, and strive to hit the truth, then be among those whom Allah said about them: (And they do not fear the blame of a blamer). If we fall short in this, our chests tighten when we hear what displeases us from some people, for we have accustomed them to excessive warmth with people's words. Just as we were pleased with those who praise us for what is not in us, we are rewarded by those who blame us for what is not in us! 2. Preoccupation with guarantees over commands: Allah has commanded His servants with commands and guaranteed them guarantees. The blessed one is he who is preoccupied with the command, believing that Allah is the most truthful guarantor. The deprived one is he who is preoccupied with what Allah has guaranteed instead of what He has commanded, thus losing both! Allah the Almighty says: ((Verily, Allah defends those who believe)). The command: to be among those who believe, and the guarantee: that Allah defends you. Our Prophet (peace be upon him) swore by three things, one of which is: ((No servant is wronged by an injustice but that he is honored by it)). The intended patience is the beautiful patience, not the patience mixed with frequent annoyance, saying, and preoccupation with beneficial calls. So be preoccupied with what Allah has commanded you and trust completely and believe that He will defend you at that time. 3. Disobeying Allah by ignoring the ignorant: Of course, not everyone who opposes us is ignorant, but some have ignorance in their manner, as they rely on insults or attacking intentions. What did Allah command us to do with these people?: ((Take forgiveness and enjoin good and turn away from the ignorant)) For Allah Almighty knows that those who enjoin good must face the ignorant, so follow this command with His saying: ((And turn away from the ignorant)). Your chest tightness may be a punishment for disobeying Allah's command, as you strive to please the ignorant or preoccupy yourself with following what they say about you and responding to them. And Allah the Almighty says about the servants of the Merciful: ((And when they pass by vain talk, they pass by with dignity)). And the passing of the dignified requires that a person does not stop at every one who harms him and wrongs him. Whoever disobeys Allah's command in this will be afflicted with the control of the ignorant over his thinking, so his direction in what he says and does becomes seeking people's pleasure, and since pleasing all people is an unattainable goal, and what pleases some displeases others, the seeker of their pleasure stumbles and hesitates, and his positions fluctuate, and his words come out shy and fearful of reactions! And whoever turns away from all this and makes pleasing Allah his goal, Allah will make his words eloquent, acceptable, and influential. And I advise everyone who has a page with frequent interaction to seek help from one of the followers to remove harmful speech so that he does not read it and it affects him, distracting him from the good he is in or affecting his intention, while keeping scientific objections and serious discussions. I ask Allah to grant me and you the righteousness of intention, the correctness of speech and action, and preoccupation with His command, and to employ me and you in His obedience and make us among His supporters. Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah.
