Surprise: How old was Imam As-Suyuti when he completed the interpretation of Jalalayn?

Imam As-Suyuti is one of the two Jalalayn who authored the well-known interpretation called Tafsir Al-Jalalayn, the other being Jalal ad-Din al-Mahalli. Al-Mahalli interpreted Surah Al-Fatihah and then moved to Surah Al-Kahf, interpreting it until Surah An-Nas (the last surah of the Quran), while As-Suyuti interpreted the first half of the Quran except Al-Fatihah, i.e., from Al-Baqarah to Al-Isra. Tafsir Al-Jalalayn is one of the most widely spread interpretations. It is also the case that the commentary on some Qurans circulating in the world is from Tafsir Al-Jalalayn. The interpretation is characterized by its extreme brevity while containing the sciences of grammar, readings, abrogating and abrogated verses, reasons for revelation, meanings of words, and others. Scholars admire the precision of his word choices. However, it contains weak and fabricated hadiths and Israelite stories, which necessitated the efforts of researchers to purify it from these things. The author of (Kashf al-Zunun) said: (Despite its small size, it is great in meaning, as it is the essence of the essence of interpretations - meaning: the summary of summaries of interpretations - therefore, scholars considered it an interpretation for those who have reached the end of their studies, not for beginners among them). And it reached the extent of scholars' attention to it that they wrote many commentaries and explanations on it. Judge Muhammad Kanaan compiled the tenth of them in his book (Qurrat al-Aynayn 'ala Tafsir al-Jalalayn). The big surprise now is: how old was As-Suyuti when he authored half of the interpretation of the Quran? And the period in which he authored it. Judge Kanaan said: (And Imam As-Suyuti, may God have mercy on him, authored this interpretation at the age of twenty-two years or less by months, that is after the death of Al-Mahalli by six years, and wrote all this great and precise interpretation in forty days!) Twenty-two years, meaning in our days a young man about to graduate from university. Forty days is approximately the duration between the second semester of an academic year and the summer semester! Think about what we accomplish in this period compared to As-Suyuti. And look at what we have missed in our thirties, as if we are old compared to As-Suyuti! What this young man in his twenties said at the end of his interpretation: (This is the last of what I completed in the interpretation of the Noble Quran, which was authored by the Sheikh, Imam, Scholar, Jurist, and Verifier Jalal ad-Din al-Mahalli al-Shafi'i, may God be pleased with him... and I authored it in a period equal to the appointment of the Speaker - meaning: Musa, peace be upon him, in forty days - and made it a means to attain the gardens of bliss... and I said: I praised Allah, my Lord, for guiding me to what I have accomplished despite my weakness and inability. Who will guarantee me against mistakes so that I may be protected from them? And who will guarantee me acceptance, even if it is just one letter - meaning: who will ensure that Allah accepts from me even one letter of what I have written? Then he said: This was not in my mind at all to engage in this; because of my knowledge of my inability to delve into these paths, and perhaps Allah will benefit from it greatly - and indeed Allah benefited greatly from it - and will open with it hearts that are hard, eyes that are blind, and ears that are deaf... May Allah grant us guidance to the path of truth and success, and insight into the subtleties of His words and realization, and make us among those whom He has favored from the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous. And those are good companions.) Note: There are interpretations more beneficial than Tafsir Al-Jalalayn, so the purpose of this publication is not to prefer it over other interpretations, but to highlight the zeal of our scholars, may God have mercy on them.
