The Chronic Disease - Search Yourself, O "The Committed"
There is a phenomenon among many of us who are considered committed. When we abandon what we are accustomed to of prohibitions (songs, uncontrolled relationships between boys and girls, ...) and embrace the manifestations of commitment (beard, hijab, ...) without passing through the real stations of purification, then (the whims of the self) remain attached to us. These whims of the self, which used to drive you to the apparent sins, will now seek a new outlet in your personality, O "committed" one, sometimes with incomplete commitment, and sometimes with hollow commitment! The whims of the self will appear in a new form. Before, you would satisfy your whims with songs and turning your eyes to the prohibited. Today, after "commitment," you satisfy your whims with hypocrisy and seeking fame through the religion you have outwardly committed to, or by being lax in backbiting people and belittling them under the pretense that you are the guardian of the prevailing religion! Or being lax in the rights of people under the pretense that you are more deserving of what you have taken from their money because you "serve the nation" while they waste their money in vain! Before, you satisfied your whims with open adornment... and today, after covering your head, you satisfy your whims by tightening your clothes and adorning them, and being more lax in your relationship with the men around you. The problem is that in all of this, we numb our consciences whenever it tries to awaken and we tell it: (But I am on the right path. The proof is that I have left songs and series for the sake of Allah, and I have grown my beard and endured the society's gaze and sacrificed for the sake of Allah)... Yes, he did that for the sake of Allah, but he did not rid himself of his whims, so he sought another outlet to compensate for what he sacrificed! Consider the state of the Khawarij, about whom the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: (You belittle your prayer compared to theirs, your fasting compared to theirs, and your deeds compared to theirs) (Bukhari). Their worship in appearance is more than the worship of the Companions. But their downfall was that they did not rid themselves of their whims! Ibn Kathir said: (...for the first innovation that occurred in Islam was the fitnah of the Khawarij, and their beginning was due to worldly matters when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) divided the spoils of Hunayn, so it was as if they saw in their corrupt minds that he did not do justice in the division, so they surprised him with this statement, so one of them - and he is Dhul-Khuwaysirah - said, 'Be just, for you have not been just'). This is their misfortune! They did not purify their souls from their whims despite their abundance of worship, so their souls found their whims in arrogance over people and shedding their blood and money. Otherwise, Allah is more merciful than to misguide a people who turned to Him with sincerity and purity. Brother, sister, search yourself, are you free from your whims? And know that righteousness will not be true until you rid yourself of these whims, assured of Allah's mercy that He will compensate you with a pleasure and faith like that which He wrote in the hearts of the companions of Muhammad (peace be upon him): ((Those are the ones in whose hearts Allah has written faith and whom He has supported with a spirit from Him)). And Allah is truthful: ((Indeed, he has succeeded who purifies it)).
