The Leap to the Moon!
My daughter once asked me: (Daddy, did the disbelievers try to imitate the Quran?) I told her: Your question is good! But I will ask you first before answering: If I told you to jump from here to the door (2 meters away), would you try? - She said: (Yes). - Okay, from here to the table (4 meters)? - (Emmmmmmm...maybe I can try)..(with a smile). - Okay, from here to the moon? - She and her brothers laughed...(No, of course not) - This is what happened to the disbelievers, my daughter...They understood Arabic and were its most skilled people in poetry and prose. So, trying to imitate the Quran was like trying to jump to the moon for them. If one of them tried, he would appear foolish and stupid. And they were ashamed and disgusted to appear foolish! - Imagine you rolling up your sleeves, advancing and retreating, trying to make that jump! It would look funny. - Therefore, history did not record a serious attempt to imitate the Quran, but they resorted to fighting the Prophet (peace be upon him), threatening him, slandering him, and distorting his call and turning people away from it. As for "the jump to the moon," they did not even try...but when they heard the Quran, they became hopeless (despaired) even about attempting it. - By the way, even what is commonly narrated about Musaylimah the liar does not have a reliable source. Ibn Kathir mentioned in Al-Bidayah wa al-Nihayah some of what is attributed to Musaylimah without a chain of narration (the frog, the elephant, etc.), and then said: (They mentioned things from these superstitions that children would be ashamed to say while playing). - As for what Al-Tabari narrated in his history about Musaylimah's imitations, it is from the path of Sayf bin Umar, who is weak. - One of the worst things done to the generations of Muslims is weakening their Arabic language, so you need to explain in detail to someone why the Quran is a miracle, and you need to distinguish for them between a two-meter jump and a jump to the moon! And the deception of school curricula in which our children spend the flower of their lives does not give them the ability to make this distinction, as it shines and sets in texts and poems "yibtesawa wala ma yibteshawash!" - While what Allah has given us of the remaining knowledge of the language and its taste makes us tremble when reading many of its verses, and we taste its sweetness, we lament that the children of Muslims do not taste it. - For those who have some knowledge of the language, one of the most beneficial books in explaining the linguistic miracle of the Quran is the book (Al-Naba' Al-Azim) by Dr. Abdullah Daraz, may Allah have mercy on him. Look, for example, at the explanation of one of the miracles in verse 91 of Surah Al-Baqarah. - And Allah is truthful: (And We have not taught him poetry, nor is it befitting for him. It is only a Reminder and a clear Quran (69) to warn those who are alive and to establish the word against the disbelievers (70)) (Surah Ya Sin).
