Episode 1 - Understanding the Words of Allah is a Blessing
Brothers, understanding the words of Allah is a blessing... because this understanding yields in the heart love for Allah, longing for Him, and comfort with Him... understanding the Quran yields tranquility of the heart, expansion of the chest, and contentment with the decrees of Allah... understanding the Quran yields certainty, pride in Allah, attachment to the Hereafter, and anticipation of the most complete reward. All of these are great fruits and spiritual states resulting from understanding the Quran. Therefore, comprehending the meanings of the Quran is a bliss, and this bliss is not deserved by everyone... it is not deserved by the idle who, even if they understand the Quran and taste the spiritual states, will still prefer the cheap pleasures of this world over the bliss of the Quran... Therefore, Allah Almighty is jealous of His words being understood by such people! Yes... Allah is jealous of His words being understood by them. Understanding and savoring the meanings is a bliss they do not deserve. Where is this meaning in the Book of Allah? Where is the meaning that Allah is jealous of His words being understood by those who do not deserve to understand them? There are many verses with this meaning, including His saying in Surah Al-Isra, verses 45 and 46: ((And when you recite the Quran, We place between you and those who do not believe in the Hereafter a barrier, concealed (45) And We have placed over their hearts coverings, lest they understand it, and in their ears deafness)) Al-Sari said to his companions: Do you know what this barrier is? It is the barrier of jealousy. And no one is more jealous than Allah. Indeed, Allah did not make the disbelievers worthy of understanding His words, nor worthy of knowing Him, worshipping Him, and loving Him, so He placed between them and His Messenger, His words, and His worship a concealed barrier, out of jealousy for Him that it should reach those who are not worthy of it. Meaning, as if Allah is jealous of the Quran from entering these heedless hearts, so He places between it and them a concealed barrier – a barrier – that is not seen by the eyes, and He places over their hearts coverings – wrappings – and He places in their ears deafness – deafness – all of this because they do not deserve understanding. Why did Allah conceal His words from them?... He said after these verses: ((We know best what they listen to when they listen to you, and when they conspire. When the wrongdoers say, 'You follow none but a man bewitched' (47) See how they strike for you the examples, they have strayed, so they cannot find a way (48) )) They described the Messenger as bewitched, and they know they are lying, oppressors in that, ((so when they deviated, Allah led their hearts astray)) so He concealed them from understanding His words... ((Indeed, Allah does not wrong the people at all, but it is the people who wrong themselves)). Ibn Al-Qayyim said: And whoever does not respond to the caller who guides you, leave him Every one who becomes a caller to misguidance deserves it And say to the one who has strayed, sufficient for you as a punishment Your straying from this matter if you were aware Meaning, it is sufficient punishment not to understand the meanings of the Quran. O, the beauty of the girl who is guided to a man Harmful and empty of passion from love Imagine a beautiful girl married to a blind man who does not desire women, does he deserve her? Likewise, the meanings of the Quran are not deserved by those who do not know their value. So, cherish her if you know her worth Until you see a worthy one who comes to you with a gift What are the lessons learned from today's reminder?: 1) Understanding the Quran is a blessing, honor, and dignity. 2) Beware of turning away from the call of truth, lest Allah place between you and understanding His words a concealed barrier, for Allah is jealous of His words being understood by those who do not deserve this understanding.
