When Justifying Evil Becomes More Dangerous Than the Evil Itself

Justifying evils and attempting to "silence" those who denounce them is one of the most dangerous things happening on social media platforms. When evil consists of isolated cases that society denounces and disavows, the punishment does not become universal. But when flagrant evils are committed in lands whose people God recently blessed, and then many hasten to justify them, downplay them, or silence those who denounce them, here the Hadith is recalled: ("Will we be destroyed while the righteous are among us?") He, peace be upon him, said: ("Yes, if wickedness increases"). Wickedness increases when those who downplay evil, justify it, and harass those who denounce it increase; here, the good becomes evil and the evil becomes good. God explained the reason for His cursing of certain peoples as being that (they did not forbid one another from the evil they committed)... so they did not forbid each other. So what about those who go beyond that to justify evil or downplay it?! The law of God is ongoing that (whoever seeks the pleasure of people through the wrath of God, God will entrust him to the people)... and let the people benefit him then! As one of the brothers commented: "The most dangerous part of the matter is not the scene itself, but its justification; when 'deviation' turns into a 'phase', and concession into 'realism', here the real sliding begins, and here the truth becomes a stranger among its own people... Distorting the reality of the matter by some justifiers—including some who are counted among the Sheikhs—is not just an error in judgment, but rather a deviation in the scale, and a danger that may be more severe than the evils themselves; because if evil is described by its true nature, it can be denounced, but if it is dressed in the garment of justification and beautification, it is passed off as acceptable, and perhaps even legitimate! ...We do not need those who downplay evil, but rather those who provide insight into it, nor those who beautify reality, but rather those who establish the scale upon the truth, naming things by their names, without flattery or compromise at the expense of religion." End quote. One of the things some ignorant people try most these days to muzzle the mouths of those who denounce evil is their saying: ("What about the evils surrounding you in your own country?"). And praise be to God, we have not patched up anyone's evil nor defended anyone's evil; rather, we disassociate ourselves before God Almighty from every evil, whoever its perpetrator may be.. O Allah, guide the Muslims so they are not deprived of Your blessing and do not deserve more of Your wrath than what they are already in. And God is the One whose help is sought.
