This is how our eagerness to benefit people should be: It was narrated about al-Sari ibn Mughlis al-Saqati that a thief entered the house of Malik ibn Dinar and found nothing. He came to leave and Malik called out: Peace be upon you. He said: And upon you peace. He said: You got nothing from this world, so would you like something from the Hereafter? He said: Yes. He said: Perform ablution from this basin and pray two rak'ahs. He did so, then said: My master, may I sit until morning? When Malik went out to the mosque in the morning, his companions said: Who is this with you? He said: He came to steal from us, so we stole him (Tarikh al-Islam by al-Dhahabi 2/144).
