This is how our eagerness to benefit people should be: It was narrated that al-Sari ibn Mughlis al-Saqati that a thief entered Malik ibn Dinar's house and found nothing, so he came to leave. Malik called him: Peace be upon you. He said: And upon you peace. He said: Did you get anything from this world, would you like something from the Hereafter? He said: Yes. He said: Perform ablution from this basin and pray two rak'ahs. He did so, then said: O my master, sit until morning. When Malik went out to the mosque his companions said: Who is this with you? He said: He came to steal from us so we stole him (Tarikh al-Islam by al-Dhahabi 2/144).
