The people of Sunnah know the truth and have mercy on creation Ibn al-Mulaqqin mentioned in Tabaqat al-Awliya 1/47 that Ma'ruf al-Karkhi, may Allah have mercy on him, was sitting one day on the Tigris in Baghdad, when some boys passed by him in a boat playing with musical instruments and drinking. His companions said to him: Don't you see these people disobeying Allah on this water? Supplicate against them. He raised his hands to the sky and said: (My Lord and Master, just as You made them happy in this world, I ask You to make them happy in the Hereafter). His companion said to him: We asked you to supplicate against them, not for them! He said: (If He makes them happy in the Hereafter, He will have made them repent in this world, and this will not harm you).
