I got to know a brother who works as a lawyer, so I said to him: Your profession is like walking in a minefield! For common people and lawyers know that it is not permissible to advocate for a clearly unjust fraudulent person, but another serious matter escapes their mind: which is that the client of the lawyer may request something he can obtain according to man-made law, but it is not his right in the law of Allah Lord of the worlds.. and this is common in contracts and transactions, where people consume each other's wealth unjustly violating Allah's Sharia even though they did not violate man-made laws, as happens between lessor and lessee and collecting usury (what is called interest) and much else.

He said to me: Praise be to Allah that I was blessed with a pious lawyer in the beginning of training, who said to me a word that remained in my memory that I work by: "If a case is presented to you, look at its conformity with Sharia first before accepting to advocate for it, then at its conformity with law".

As much as I admire this pious lawyer, I was sad that a concept like this, namely the absolute authority of Sharia, is absent from minds, such that the student does not learn it in school, nor at university, nor does he hear it unless he is blessed with someone who teaches it to him, even though it is principle number one in Islam!! Rather it is the meaning of Islam: absolute submission and complete compliance to Allah's rulings, such that there is no right except what Allah made right, and no falsehood except what Allah made false. And it is the concept that is supposed to be nursed to Muslim children with their mothers' milk and mixed with their blood and flesh, because by it they become Muslims.

(Then We put you on an ordained way [Sharia] of [Our] command; so follow it and do not follow the inclinations of those who do not know).

(It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should have any choice in their matter. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly strayed into clear error).
