Imagine if a companion of the Prophet were resurrected among us and heard people saying the word "Islamists"—the following conversation would ensue:
Companion: (What does "Islamists" mean? Aren’t you all Muslims?)
Us: (Yes, we are all Muslims, but the Islamists are a bit different.)
Companion: (How are they different?)
Us: The Islamists are those who are religiously committed and follow the Sunnah.
Companion: (What about the rest?)
Us: Well, the Islamists are also those who carry the responsibility of calling to Islam and long for the return of the Caliphate.
Companion: (What about the rest?)
Us: Yes, but the Islamists themselves believe that Sharia should govern.
Companion: If these are Islamists, then how can the others be Muslims at all?
This discussion was suggested by a dear friend (Osama Fawzi) with some rephrasing.
