I became acquainted with a brother who works as a lawyer, and I said to him: Your profession is like walking through a minefield! For most people and lawyers know that it is not permissible to defend a clearly unjust fraudulent person, but another dangerous matter escapes their mind: which is that the client of the lawyer may request something he can obtain according to man-made law, but it is not his right according to the law of Allah, Lord of the Worlds.. and this is common in contracts and transactions, whereby people eat each other's wealth unjustly violating the law of Allah even though they did not violate man-made laws, as happens between landlord and tenant and collecting usury (what is called interest) and much else.
He said to me: Praise be to Allah that I was granted success with a pious lawyer at the beginning of training, who said to me a phrase that remained in my memory that I work by: "If a case is presented to you, look at its conformity with Sharia first before you accept to defend it, then at its conformity with the law".
As much as I admired this pious lawyer, I was saddened that such a concept, namely the absolute authority of Sharia, is absent from minds, such that the student does not learn it in school, nor at university, nor does he hear it except if he is blessed to meet someone who teaches it to him, even though it is principle number one in Islam!! Rather it is the meaning of Islam: absolute submission and complete compliance to the rulings of Allah the Most High, such that there is no right except what Allah has made right, and no falsehood except what Allah has made false. And it is the concept that the children of Muslims are supposed to suckle with their mothers' milk and it should mix with their blood and flesh, because by it they become Muslims.
(Then We put you on an ordained way [Sharia] of religion; so follow it and do not follow the inclinations of those who do not know).
(And it is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should [thereafter] have any choice about their affair. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly strayed into clear error).
