On the Day of Resurrection, when the believers and disbelievers stand together, the moment of separation and distinction begins. God the Almighty says:
"Separate yourselves today, O criminals!" (Meaning: Disassociate yourselves from the believers.)
Then comes the divine rebuke:
"Did I not enjoin upon you, O children of Adam, that you not worship Satan? Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy. And that you worship Me? This is a straight path. And he had already led astray from among you many. Then will you not reason?" (Quran 36:60-62)
You might say, "I never worshipped Satan!" But yes, by God, you did worship Satan when he whispered to you and you obeyed him, when you dared to insult the Lord of the worlds. Where was your mind? Where was your understanding when you disobeyed the Creator?
The awe-inspiring scene continues to describe the fate of those who disbelieved and disobeyed:
"This is Hellfire, which you were promised. Enter it today for what you used to deny." (Quran 40:72)
Perhaps in this world you were a skeptic, hesitant and uncertain about your affairs. But now, the truth stands before your eyes. On that Day, there will be no room for denial or lies:
"Today We will seal their mouths, and their hands will speak to Us, and their feet will bear witness to what they used to earn." (Quran 36:65)
God the Almighty is capable of stripping away blessings in an instant:
"And if We willed, We could have obliterated their eyes, and they would race to the path, so how could they see? And if We willed, We could have transformed them in their place, so they would not be able to go forward or return." (Quran 36:66-67)
If God willed, He could have blinded your eyes with a single touch, rendering you unable to see anything. If He willed, He could have turned you into something unrecognizable in your place. God can take away any blessing from you at any moment.
O you who are deceived by your youth and strength, O you who flex in the gym only to then dare to insult the Lord of the worlds—remember your fate:
"And whoever We grant long life, We will reverse him in creation. Then will they not reason?" (Quran 36:68)
When you grow old, lose your mind, and become a burden carried by others—when you need someone to clean you and help you into the bathroom—where will your strength be then? Will you not reason?
God reminds us of His countless favors, including the livestock He has subjected to us:
"Have they not seen that We created for them, from what Our hands have made, livestock, so they are their owners? And We have tamed them for them, so some of them they ride and some of them they eat. And for them in them are benefits and drinks. Then why do they not give thanks?" (Quran 36:71-73)
You, who insult religion and the Lord—how many meals have you eaten from meat? How many kinds of milk and cheese have you drunk? All these benefits are from God, who subjected them for you. Yet instead of gratitude, you respond with insults and denial!
Reflect on your origin, O human:
"Has man not considered that We created him from a sperm-drop? Then at once he is a clear adversary." (Quran 36:77)
Your origin is a drop of fluid expelled from the urinary tract. How then do you become today an open adversary, boldly defying and disputing with the Lord of the worlds? Do you consider yourself an equal to God the Exalted?
Man sets up examples while forgetting the reality of his creation and weakness:
"And he presents for Us an example and forgets his own creation. He says, 'Who will give life to bones while they are decayed?' Say, 'He will give them life who produced them the first time, and He is, of all creation, Knowing.'" (Quran 36:78-79)
He who created you from nothing the first time is certainly able to restore you after you become bones and remains. Look at God’s signs in the universe:
"He who made for you from the green tree, fire, and then you ignite from it. Is He who created the heavens and the earth not able to create the likes of them? Yes, and He is the Knowing Creator." (Quran 36:80-81)
To God, the matter is effortless:
"His command, when He intends a thing, is only that He says to it, 'Be,' and it is. So exalted is He in whose hand is the dominion of all things, and to Him you will be returned." (Quran 36:82-83)
