Announcing the "Reflect on His Verses" Competition for Youth
Inspiring Story: How Did Reflection Begin at Home?
Peace be upon you, dear brothers. A pleasant incident happened with one of my friends; he has a daughter whom he speaks to about a religious duty, so she got upset and said, "I don't want to hear this." He told her and her siblings, "Come, there is a verse that talks about people who deliberately do not listen to the words of guidance, and whoever finds this verse will receive a certain amount of money."
The beautiful part is that his daughter and siblings went to search for the verse with interest and competition until one of his daughters found it. The brother was impressed by the idea, and he used to attend our "Explaining Everything" sessions with us, so he started writing several questions every day in the same way as the competition, but from a specific surah and in a simplified style suitable for the age of his children, with a focus on the meanings that this age group needs.
This friend of mine said to me, "I was surprised by the number of benefits in the verses and meanings that I find for the first time in every page of the Quran while I read it with the mentality of someone who wants to extract questions." As for me, Iyad, I started giving my friend's questions to my daughter Sarah and my son Al-Farooq, and I noticed an amazing integration from them in the competition and a very good ability to derive meanings.
Launching the "Reflect on His Verses" Competition
This situation, dear brothers, encouraged us to launch a new competition under the title "Reflect on His Verses", similar to the "Explaining Everything" competition, but it is dedicated to the youth category for boys and girls aged 11 to 16. It is a competition of great benefit during the summer vacation, and there will be motivational prizes, God willing.
Preparatory Meeting (For Parents and Children)
The mechanism will be as follows: We will hold a meeting next Friday (29/13 - the mentioned date), and the location of the meeting will be announced later, but generally, it will be near the University of Jordan in the Khalda or Tala'a Al-Ali area. My speech will be recorded during the meeting so that the benefit reaches the brothers outside Jordan, God willing.
The goal of this meeting is for us to learn together how we, as parents, can formulate competition questions from the Quran, and for the children to learn how to answer. I will discuss with you a model of my friend's questions and how he helped modify them to suit the focus of the meaning, simplify it, and make it precise for this age group. Then we will open together two pages from the Quran, and I will ask the parents and mothers present to formulate questions, and we will cooperate in modifying them to acquire the skill of precise question formulation. In the same session, we will direct some questions to our sons and daughters present, listen to their answers, and discuss them so that they learn how to answer questions with a specific verse, why this answer is not precise, and why the other verse indicates the meaning more? And so on.
Competition Steps and Mechanism
As for the practical steps of the competition, they will be as follows:
- Question Formulation Group: We will provide you (parents) with a link to an open group we have created titled "Questions for the Reflect on His Verses Competition," so that we have a library of questions divided according to the surahs.
- Selection Committee: We will choose questions from these, and the committee will generally consist mainly of brothers and sisters who have excelled in the "Explaining Everything" competition.
- Publishing Questions: The committee will publish a number of questions (ranging from 5 to 7 questions daily) starting from next Saturday, and the questions of the first day will be from Surah "Yaseen," God willing.
- Publishing Platforms: We will publish the questions through a link via Dr. Iyad Qunaybi's official page, on Twitter, and also through the "Al-Furqan" website (which we will put its link in the comments) so that children who do not have a Facebook account can participate.
- Answering Method: Our sons and daughters will enter through the link, answer by placing the number of the verse containing the answer under each question, and the link will remain active for 24 hours.
- Scoring: We will calculate the points for each of our children, and we will announce the winners at the end of each week, taking into account the age difference.
- Final Recognition: After a month and a half from the start of the competition (at the end of the vacation, God willing), the winners will be determined, and a certificate will be given to everyone who answered more than half of the questions during these 45 days, in a meeting whose location will be determined later, God willing.
Registration and Attendance Instructions
Brothers and sisters who wish to attend the meeting on Friday with their children (aged 11 to 16), we ask them to register on the link we will put in the comments, with a commitment to attend; because we will close the registration if the number is completed. If you register and do not attend, you have taken the place of another person and wasted the benefit on him. We ask you to commit, and each one registers his name and the names of his children who will attend (even with the first name only) so that we can count the number and reserve a suitable hall.
May God bless us and you with the great Quran, and gather us and you in this world in its study and action, and in the Hereafter in His Paradise, glorified and exalted be He.
And I assure the brothers outside Jordan: God willing, there will be a mechanism to integrate our children outside Jordan, even if with electronic certificates, and if we are able to deliver prizes, we will try, God willing. The important thing is for the largest number to participate, and God willing, the benefit will be great.
