Christian Proselytism in Jordan
A video clip has spread on the internet from the "CNN" channel showing the proselytizing activity carried out on our Syrian refugee sisters in northern Jordan. The correspondent who prepared the video is one of the proselytizers and speaks about her activities and those of her colleagues with pride and openly, stating that their goal is to convince the refugees that Jesus was not just a prophet, and that he was crucified to save them. She lectures Muslim women in a church to convince them of this.
The proselytizers also provide food and gifts to the refugees, even washing their feet to win their hearts, as shown in the video. The proselytizers also state that times of disaster and war are the best for their work, to show Jesus' love for the victims of war, as they put it.
Brothers, this clip is not the first sign of proselytism. The file of proselytism in Jordan and in the Islamic world in general is a large and old one, and we will discuss it in points.
Foreign Proselytizers: The Algae of Disasters
First: Foreign proselytizers are the algae of disasters. They are the other side of the coin of the military machine of the international system. They work in coordination to combat Muslims in their faith.
In 2003, when American planes were destroying Iraq, British newspapers reported that American proselytizing teams were waiting in Jordan for the fall of the Iraqi regime to enter Iraq and begin their activities. A lecture was held in America by a Christian priest who sought to arouse the emotions of Muslims in order to collect donations from them for relief efforts in Iraq. He showed pictures of himself giving bread to Iraqi children, with his cross dangling near the bread. On the tables in the lecture hall were newspapers with pictures of Iraqi children with their eyes wide open, wearing crosses. Nevertheless, this priest did not hesitate to ask Muslims for donations to atone for the sons of their religion, taking advantage of the poor application of the principle of religious tolerance among many of them.
The same goes for Afghanistan, and also in Africa, where the international system contributes to the outbreak of civil wars and then spreads proselytizing groups densely, while preventing Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Sumait from continuing his missionary activities there, and tightening the screws on Muslim donations to Nigeria under the pretext that they are support for the Islamic extremist group Boko Haram, as they claim.
And here is the scenario repeating itself again: America and the international system contribute to prolonging the Syrian tragedy, and prevent it and its allies in the region from supporting the Syrian people in their war. Then, when our brothers and sisters flee to neighboring countries, the proselytizers pounce on them to exploit their needs and suffering in an attempt to corrupt their beliefs. They are two hands of one devil: one hand strikes and causes the tragedy and displacement, and the other hand pats the shoulders of these displaced people, washes their feet, and offers them food poisoned with polytheism. Therefore, these proselytizers are the algae of disasters.
The Response to the Allegation of Allowing the Spread of Their Religion
Second: Some of those who have been lenient with the religion of Allah say: "Brother, why do you prevent them from spreading their religion as you call people to your religion in their countries? Allow them to call to their religion." As if we are talking about personal opinions and not about right and wrong, guidance and misguidance!
If we rephrase the objection of these people, its meaning would be as follows: "As you want to spread monotheism, you must allow the proselytizers to spread polytheism and insult Allah by claiming that He has a son." As in the sacred hadith narrated by Bukhari: "And as for insulting Me, it is their saying that I have a son, so glory be to Me that I should take a companion or a son."
The meaning of their statement: "As you call to the Quran which glorifies Allah, you must allow them to spread their holy book, which is corrupted, describing Allah as sleeping, and that He screamed like a drunkard, and that He was tired of creating the heavens and the earth, and that the prophet Jacob made Allah stutter."
The meaning of their statement: "As you want to spread the Quran which honors the prophets, peace be upon them, you must allow the proselytizers to spread their corrupted book which describes Lot as having sex with his daughters after he got drunk from alcohol, and describes Noah as dancing and stripping naked from drunkenness, and describes David as seeing a woman bathing so he ordered his soldiers to bring her to him so he could have sex with her and betray her husband to get rid of him, and that Solomon was a servant of the gods before his death, and that Jesus screamed on the cross saying: 'My Lord, why have you forsaken me?' Far be it from the prophets of Allah, peace be upon them."
Its meaning: "As you call to follow the Messenger of Allah Muhammad, peace be upon him, you must allow those who call to follow the men of the church, many of whom are immersed in their ears in the perversion of children, as we read the news every now and then, and as in the BBC documents and documentaries on the internet titled: (The Sexual Crimes of the Vatican) and others."
Its meaning: "As you want to spread the religion of mercy which commands its followers not to betray, not to represent, not to transgress, and not to kill except those who fight, allow the proselytizers to spread their corrupted book which claims that the Lord commanded the destruction of the houses of the subjugated nations, the cutting of the bellies of the pregnant women among them, the killing of the fetuses, the crushing of the children, and the exposure of the women, as in the books of Ezekiel, Hosea, and Isaiah." All of this is in their corrupted book which they give to people in their proselytizing campaigns. So look at the meaning of your statement, O you who call for allowing them to spread their religion.
The Real Goal of Proselytism: Excommunication, Not Proselytism
Third: Brothers, and this is an important matter, many proselytizers do not aim to convert Muslims to Christianity, but rather to take them out of Islam, to take them out of Islam.
In June 2002, the American magazine "Mother Jones" published a report titled: "False Prophets: Inside the Evangelical Christian War on Islam" (False Prophets: Inside the Evangelical Christian War on Islam). In the details: "The Evangelical Christian proselytizing movement seeks to eradicate Islam." The report talks about the teachings of this movement to its followers at the University of "South Carolina" how they make Muslims doubt their beliefs, and its members spread in 50 countries according to the report. One of them says in the report what I translate: "My goal is not to convert Muslims to Christianity, but rather to plant seeds of doubt in their hearts that disturb them and make them uneasy and grow over time, so that they begin to doubt their religion. My prayer is that they are deprived of peaceful sleep and live in anxiety from what they hear." Then he said himself: "This is the worst thing you can wish on a human being" meaning: "This is the worst thing you can wish for a human being."
And these people come to you in the name of love and the spread of tolerance, and Allah is truthful when He said: {They wish that you would suffer a great loss} [Al-Imran: 118] meaning they love for you to fall into hardship and distress. {They wish that you would suffer a great loss. Hatred has already appeared from their mouths, and what their breasts conceal is greater} [Al-Imran: 118].
Therefore, brothers, the accurate description of the activity of many of these people is not proselytism but excommunication. They want to excommunicate Muslims and make them doubt their religion.
Role of Authorities and Officials
Fourth: My brothers, the missionary activity in Jordan, and indeed in most Muslim countries, is prohibited by law as far as I know. However, we see authorities turning a blind eye, if not being lenient and cooperative, to the extent that these missionaries carry out their activities openly and provocatively in a manner that insults our religious dignity and honor as Muslims in this country.
I wish the authorities' enthusiasm in enforcing laws and pursuing missionaries was as strong as their enthusiasm in pursuing those who speak out against officials or support the righteous jihad in the cause of Allah. If the authorities in Muslim countries boast about combating takfir, then these missionaries are indeed the takfiris, seeking to declare Muslims as disbelievers.
However, my brothers, since we cannot expect any change from them, it remains for us to discuss the fifth point about our role in facing this takfiri missionary effort.
Our Duty as Muslims
First: And the most important duty upon us is to reclaim our role that Allah has destined for us, as He said: "You are the best nation ever raised for mankind" [Al-Imran: 110], by taking the initiative to invite Christians in our country and abroad to the religion of Allah the Almighty. Allah is not pleased that the nation of Muhammad (peace be upon him) should reach this level of weakness, where the disbelievers invade them with their shirk (polytheism) instead of them invading with their tawhid (monotheism), faith, and the conquests of the Islamic Caliphate.
Time has passed, and the glory has gone to other people, And in the caravan, my people are not seen, though they lived their imams. A year and a lament, and the lament of every free man, The question of the age: Where are the Muslims?
Your neighbor, your colleague in study or work, the foreign expert who visits your company, or those who enter the country under different pretexts for the purpose of missionary work—it is upon us to take the initiative to invite them to the religion of Allah the Almighty.
Second: Knowing that most of those who live for periods in Muslim countries under the cover of education, medical care, aid, or investment are actually missionaries. There are many indications of this, which we may present in another speech, God willing. We must raise awareness of this, for these people should not be aided or assisted in teaching the language, nor should their access to children, women, and the needy be facilitated.
Third: This is an obvious matter, but unfortunately, we need to emphasize the fundamentals in this time. It is not permissible under any circumstances, my brothers, it is not permissible under any circumstances to donate to Christian charitable organizations, as they will exploit your support to corrupt the beliefs of Muslim children. There is a reward for you in donating to a poor Christian, yes, there is a reward for you in donating to a poor Christian, showing mercy to him, and hoping for his guidance. However, it is not permissible for you to support those who mix their charitable work with corrupting beliefs, and this is the essence of their activity, even if they hide it at first, and they do this in Jordan, with many indications of it.
I also do not forget what used to happen in the United States sometimes during Eid al-Adha, when the sacrificial meat would overflow and the Muslims would be busy, so Christian organizations would come to take the meat from the mosques and distribute it themselves, instead of the Muslims distributing it to Muslims and non-Muslims, earning the reward and the intention of calling to Islam in that.
Fourth: We must take care of our refugee brothers. We must take care of our refugee brothers. Imagine the horror of some of us, the residents of Jordan, exploiting our sisters and brothers who are displaced from Syria, raising rents and underpaying them for work, while these takfiri missionaries take them into their arms, feed them, and wash their feet.
Imagine the Syrian mujahid or prisoner who sent his wife and children to Jordan for their protection so that he could fight the criminal regime. Imagine his feeling when he hears that his children, who have lost his affection and warm embrace, are now in the arms of these missionaries who want to make the children doubt the Islam for which their father fights and sacrifices his soul, while he was reassured that he had sent them to men, to their brothers in faith.
If we do not help our brothers in their war, if we do not help our brothers in their war, is it not the least we can do to leave them with good people regarding their families and children instead of leaving them to these missionaries? So seek out your brothers and sisters who are displaced and refugees, extend a helping hand to them, and show mercy to them in defense of your religion, in defense of the dignity and honor of the nation, and in defense of the mujahideen in the cause of Allah.
And this is a call to the people of knowledge, the virtuous, and the notables to raise the issue publicly and socially until it becomes a street topic in a pressing manner that drives these missionaries out, makes these missionaries of misfortune lose, for bats flee when exposed to light.
