Peace be upon you and mercy of Allah and His blessings. We apologize for the delay due to a technical issue. We will compensate you today, God willing, with many questions, many of which are easy for those who found the previous questions difficult.
We have twelve questions with us today, ranging from easy to difficult, and all of them are from today's parts (the fifteenth and sixteenth), which will make it easier for us to search, God willing.
Question: One of the plagues of this age is boasting and bragging among people about food, drink, clothing, travel, and everything on social media. So we say to the seeker of the Hereafter: Excessive following of these things causes the servant to be heedless of Allah and the Hereafter, and it may cause him regret and dissatisfaction with destiny. Mention the beginning of a verse with this meaning from today's parts.
Answer: The saying of Allah, the Most High: "And do not extend your eyes toward what We have given enjoyment to some of the people as adornment of the worldly life, that We may test them thereby. And the provision of your Lord is better and more lasting."
Educational Note: Sheikh Al-Tarifi - may Allah preserve him - mentioned that this boasting may cause regret for the poor when you show them your food, travel, and car. So, a person should be moderate and concise in these things.
Question: Defaming the truthful with nicknames is a pre-Islamic means; they give a nickname yesterday that contradicts the nickname of today, and the purpose is one: to defame their image and turn people away from them. Mention the beginning of a verse that indicates their confusion in this matter.
Answer: The saying of Allah, the Most High: "See how they strike for you the examples, then they have gone astray, so they are not able to find a way."
Explanation: They described the Prophet peace be upon him with contradictory descriptions; sometimes they said he is a poet, sometimes a soothsayer, sometimes a madman, sometimes a magician, and sometimes bewitched. They are confused and bewildered about how to describe his condition to the people, and whenever they felt that a description did not match reality, they moved on to another lie.
Question: Some people justify for themselves participating with the People of the Book in their festivals under the pretext of tolerance, as if they have forgotten a verse that clarifies the terror of all creatures (other than the two heavy things) from their polytheistic creed. Mention the beginning of it.
Answer: The saying of Allah, the Most High: "The heavens almost rupture therefrom and the earth splits open and the mountains collapse in a crushing collapse, that they have called to the Most Merciful a son."
Question: Two words from a verse that indicate the etiquette of a prophet and his humility in dealing with those who serve him. What are they?
Answer: The two words are: "Bring us our lunch." Explanation: Moses peace be upon him said this to his servant who serves him. He did not say "Bring me my lunch" to eat alone, but he said "Bring us" in the form of participation, and this is from the nobility of the prophets' morals and their humility.
Question: Three words from a verse that carry good news of the Islam of two sons of a leader among the leaders of disbelief. What are they?
Answer: The words are: "And we will inherit what he says." Explanation: The verse speaks about Al-As bin Wail who said: "I will be given wealth and children." So Allah replied to him: "And we will inherit what he says and he will come to us alone." Ibn Ashur and Al-Qurtubi mentioned that the meaning of inheriting his children is that they become Muslims and enter the party of Allah. For Al-As had: Amr bin Al-As (the noble companion) and Hisham bin Al-As (the martyr on the day of Ajnadayn). In this, there is good news for the Prophet peace be upon him and a rebuke to Al-As.
Question: Six words from a verse that indicate that man returns to his Lord without wealth, family, or tribe. What are they?
Answer: The words are: "And indeed, you have come to Us alone, as We created you the first time." Explanation: Man returns without wealth, children, clothing, or status, as he began the first time.
Question: Three words from a verse that mention one of the names of Allah the Most Beautiful, which one might expect to mention another, but mentioning this name in that place implies the greatness of the crime of those whom Allah punishes. What are they?
Answer: The words are: "Punishment from the Most Merciful." Explanation: In the conversation of Ibrahim peace be upon him with his father, he said: "O my father, indeed I fear that there will befall you a punishment from the Most Merciful." Ibn Ashur said: meaning if you do not stop, then Allah, whose mercy encompasses everything, will seize you with punishment despite His mercy, and this indicates the greatness of the crime.
Question: Allah made the world alluring and distracting to see the strongest of them in determination, presenting the right of his Lord over the desire of his self. Mention the beginning of a verse that indicates this meaning.
Answer: The saying of Allah, the Most High: "Indeed, We have made what is on the earth adornment for it that We may test them [i.e., the people] by it; [to distinguish] who is best in deed."
Explanation: Allah created this adornment to be distracting and alluring, so that He may extract great worship from the hearts of people; whoever presents the right of his Lord over his desires is among the best of them in deed.
Question: Do not be deceived by yourself in any elevation or good that you reach, for all the good that you are in is purely a blessing from Allah, and He, the Most High, is able to take it away from you. Mention a verse that indicates this meaning.
Answer: The saying of Allah, the Most High: "And if We willed, We could take away that which We have revealed to you. Then you would not find for yourself concerning Us an advocate." Explanation: The verse that follows confirms this meaning: "Except by the mercy of your Lord. Indeed, His favor to you has been great." All that the servant has is by the mercy and favor of Allah.
Question: A pronoun replaces a pronoun in a word from a verse, from which some scholars deduced that the wife's spending on her husband in clothing, food, drink, and shelter. Mention the word that contains this pronoun.
Answer: The word is: "You will suffer." Explanation: In Allah's saying to Adam: "Then he will not expel you from the Paradise, [and] you will suffer." It was expected in a non-Quranic context to say "you will both suffer" (in the dual form for Adam and Eve), but Allah singled out suffering for Adam alone. Al-Qurtubi may Allah have mercy on him said: "He was singled out with the mention of suffering so that we may know that the wife's spending on the husband, and from that day, the spending of women on their husbands has been established." Adam is the one who will toil, work, and suffer to feed and shelter his wife.
Question: Your friend advised you and said to you: "The important thing is work and good intention," and he did not care about the legitimacy of the work or its conformity to the Sunnah. Mention a word from a verse with which you can respond to him.
Answer: The word is: "Her striving." Explanation: From the saying of Allah, the Most High: "And whoever desires the Hereafter and strives for it with [his] striving while he is a believer - it is those whose striving is ever appreciated." Allah did not say "and strives for it" only, but He said "her striving"; meaning that there is a specific and defined striving that Allah and His Messenger peace be upon him have legislated, and it is not sufficient to merely work with a good intention without following.
Question: Someone found it difficult to understand the verse of Allah: {And whoever desires the harvest of the world, We give him thereof}, saying, "There are people whose lives are very difficult and they have not been given anything from it." So how would you answer him with two words from today's portion that show that the Quran interprets some of itself?
Answer: The two words are: "for whom We will". Explanation: From the saying of Allah the Exalted in Surah Al-Isra: {Whoever desires the immediate, We hasten for him therein what We will for whom We will}. This verse limits the other verses; Allah hastens the worldly gains for whom He wills and as He wills, and it is not for everyone who asks for it unconditionally.
Praise be to Allah, I am honored and happy to be among you, and among these brothers and sisters who show from the speed of their answers that they are people of the Quran and its lovers. We ask Allah to gather us with you in obedience to Him in this world, and in His Paradise in the Hereafter. May Allah bless you, and peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah.
