Dr. Iyad's Words at His Mother's Grave, May Allah Have Mercy on Her
Introduction: Having Good Thoughts of Allah and Patience
And he has good thoughts of his Lord, glorified and exalted be He. "None of you will die except while having good thoughts of his Lord, glorified and exalted be He." A person should always be mindful of having good thoughts of Allah, so that doubt in Allah's mercy does not creep into his heart. Thus, if death comes to him at any moment, he is prepared.
I say as I said: my daughter, may Allah have mercy on her, and her grave is here. After years, Allah, glorified and exalted be He, honored my daughter, then honored my mother, and honored us, because by the grace of Allah, the Most High, they were both patient.
Advice and Directions
First: Having Good Thoughts of Allah
I bear witness to something about the mother. The mother, by the grace of Allah, the Most High, we adhered to her in the last period, because she was afflicted with cancer for months, and the situation was deteriorating rapidly. So I bear witness that she did not complain with a single word, by the grace of Allah, the Most High, even when the pain intensified. The first time I saw my mother crying from pain was on the feast day. Even when the pain intensified, she would say: "There is no power nor strength except with Allah, and praise be to Allah."
Oh brothers, we should always be mindful of having good thoughts of Allah, the Most High. I, for myself, could not imagine, meaning I used to say: something will befall me, but not my daughter. It befell her, may Allah have mercy on her, and our Lord took her and she was patient, and we were patient. Why? Because we have already accustomed ourselves to having good thoughts of Allah and being patient in all circumstances.
When I would pass by in front of my mother's house, we are in the same building, I would say: I wonder how I would feel on that day when I pass by and you are not there? I imagine I would be devastated. But with that, Allah, glorified and exalted be He, is patient, and whoever is patient, Allah makes him patient. So the first thing, oh brothers, we should be mindful of having good thoughts of Allah, and that no matter what happens to us, patience will not come from our eyes, but if we cling to Allah, glorified and exalted be He, tranquility will descend upon us.
Second: The Covering of Parents
Secondly, I am frankly afraid of the mother's death after the father, because one feels that he is exposed. The presence of parents is a covering, protection, and preservation, and I am certain that my father, may Allah have mercy on him, and my mother, with their righteousness and supplications for me, that this used to ward off evils from us, and this will be from her righteousness after her death, if Allah wills, that it will continue to cover us.
Third: Magnifying Allah and Planting It in the Children
My mother, may Allah have mercy on her, first of all, I remember her that she was a magnifier of Allah, glorified and exalted be He, and she planted in my heart the magnification of Allah. And I remember, when I was small, her scream until now, once I was a small child, not yet accountable, I started laughing and making movements while I was praying in front of the television, so she screamed at me, she told me: "Oh Eyad!" until now the scream echoes in my depths. She made me understand that this prayer is a station before the Lord of the worlds, and thus she planted in our hearts the magnification of Allah, glorified and exalted be He.
Fourth: The Characteristics of the Mother, May Allah Have Mercy on Her
Patience and Loyalty
The mother was patient and loyal to her husband, my father, may Allah have mercy on him, for 19 years of illness, and she was patient with him, and she suffered from his death, and she bore with him all the pains.
Generosity and Mercy
The mother, may Allah have mercy on her, was merciful and generous. Before her death, for two years, her health condition changed gradually, before she was able to walk a distance and carry with you, every cleaner two dinars, a street vendor two dinars, someone who sells mint two dinars, two dinars, generous and merciful, may Allah have mercy on her and do well to her.
Concern for the Affairs of Muslims and Courage in Truth
The mother was concerned with the affairs of Muslims and taught us courage in speaking the truth, she was not afraid, she did not plant in us cowardice but courage, and she died, may Allah have mercy on her, not lacking in age by a normal death, by the grace of Allah, the Most High, and a peaceful, tranquil death, by the grace of Allah, the Most High. She taught us courage in speaking the truth, and therefore I say to anyone who hears this speech and benefits from the speech of the poor slave, let him supplicate for the mother, because by Allah, she has a great favor in that. She planted in us courage, she planted in us the magnification of Allah, glorified and exalted be He, she planted in us concern for the affairs of Muslims. And even in her last days, she was keen to support our brothers in Gaza as much as she could, may Allah have mercy on her and do well to her.
Fifth: Supplication for the Mother
Their deaths. They are not even able to pull them out of the street. They are not able to wash them nor pray over them. So we ask Allah, the Most High, to magnify their reward, and to strengthen their affliction and breakage, and to support those who support them and humiliate those who betray them and conspire against them. And we ask Allah to help us in supporting Him, a support that pleases Allah with us, and to lift from us thereby the sin of abandonment.
Gratitude and Appreciation
Another point, oh brothers, indeed, praise be to Allah, indeed, one must thank those who have favor. When Islam is in such poverty and the mother is suffering and in pain and advanced cancer and so on, indeed, he respects and honors his brothers who stood with him. No one falls short, praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. The relatives, the loved ones, the family, and at the top of them also the Hussein Cancer Hospital. I ask Allah to reward the doctors in it and the nurses and the nurses in it one by one for us with good. May Allah reward them with good. And we always hear from them the word: "Oh my mother, oh my mother, oh my mother, oh my mother." May Allah reward them with good. And direct good to them wherever they are. May Allah direct good to you, oh doctor. Glory be to Allah in this position we forget the names. Upon him be peace. I forgot their names, Allah, glorified and exalted be He, remembers their names, may Allah reward them for us with the best reward. It is enough that Allah, glorified and exalted be He, knows them and does not forget them, glorified and exalted be He.
Honoring Parents Before Regret
And a fifth and final point, oh brothers: honor them before you regret. We were deficient with our fathers and with our mothers, and by Allah, we were deficient, what did we do, we did not fulfill their rights. But it was from the honor of Allah to us, me and my brothers, and from the grace of Allah upon us, that by the grace of Allah, the Most High, we accompanied her, helped her, and heard from her words of satisfaction. This speech is not regretted. But if you were a person with a living heart and were deficient with your parents in their most difficult times, before their death, you will regret it, by Allah. We, of course, did not expect this sudden death. So honor them before you regret.
The father is the middle of the gates of Paradise as he, peace be upon him, said. The father is the middle of the gates of Paradise, if you wish, preserve it, and if you wish, waste it. The matter, and I remind you again, whoever's father or mother dies, he can honor them after their death by being good to their relatives, by giving charity on their behalf, by supplicating for them. So do not forget to supplicate for her, may Allah bless you and all the deceased Muslims.
Supplication for the Deceased and Muslims
Oh Allah, forgive her and have mercy on her and pardon her and excuse her, and honor her descent and widen her entrance, and wash her with snow and water and cold. Oh Allah, replace for her a dwelling better than her dwelling, and people better than her people. Oh Allah, widen for her in her grave and lighten it for her. Oh Allah, if she was good, then increase her good deeds, and if she was evil, then overlook her evil deeds. Oh Allah, deal with her with Your gentleness, compassion, mercy, and generosity, oh Most Merciful of the merciful, Lord of the worlds. Oh Allah, join us with her in the gardens of Eden. Oh Allah, join us all with our fathers, mothers, and loved ones in the gardens of Eden, and do not take our souls except while You are pleased with us, having good thoughts of You, oh Most Merciful of the merciful, Lord of the worlds.
Oh Allah, relieve the affliction of our brothers in Gaza and Palestine. Oh Allah, have mercy on their weakness, strengthen their breakage, take charge of their affairs, and make their deliverance good. Oh Allah, make for them from Yourself a protector and make for them from Yourself a supporter. Oh Allah, feed them from hunger and protect them from fear. Oh Allah, cover their nakedness, protect their vulnerabilities, and preserve their dignity, oh Most Merciful of the merciful, Lord of the worlds. And bless and grant peace and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions altogether. And may Allah reward you for us with good. May Allah reward you with good.
