Criteria for Evaluating the Risk of Fasting for Diabetic Patients
A group of diabetes specialists published scientific recommendations in 2021 under the title:
Diabetes and Ramadan Practical Guidelines 2021
In these recommendations, they established specific and precise criteria that enable the physician to conduct an objective assessment of the risk of fasting for their patient, a process known as (Risk Stratification).
Mechanism of the Assessment (Point System)
This process is characterized by being simple and practical; the physician reviews the patient's health condition and looks for the clinical characteristics and criteria present in the patient, assigning a specific number of points to each characteristic.
After that, these points are summed up, and based on the final total, medical recommendations determine the appropriate position:
- Should the patient be advised to fast?
- Or does fasting pose a risk to their life and should they break their fast?
We will provide a link to these criteria in detail in the video description for reference and to benefit from them in medical practice.
