Peace be upon you! Is it permissible for you under duress to kill your Muslim brother?
I mean, if - God forbid - someone puts a gun to your head and says to you, "I will kill you if you do not kill this Muslim," and you know he will do it! Is it permissible for you to kill this Muslim?
Brothers, I will not answer this question today for general education or just like that, but I will mention the reason for its relevance after answering it. We have published this question on Telegram and YouTube, and more than fifty thousand followers have answered it, as follows:
What is the correct answer? The correct answer is that there is no duress in killing ever. That means it is not permissible for you to kill your Muslim brother under the pretense that you are being forced to do so, even if it leads to your own death.
Brothers, this issue is not controversial; rather, it is one of the issues of consensus. Ibn Arabi said: "And there is no dispute among the nation that if someone is forced to kill, it is not permissible for him to save himself by killing another, and he must endure the affliction that has befallen him."
Note: It is not permissible for him to save himself by killing another under any circumstances, as long as the blood is sacred and he has not committed something that would make his blood permissible, such as retaliation. Of course, even the protected non-Muslim (dhimmis) is not to be killed, but our discussion today is specifically about your Muslim brother.
If someone forces you, your life is not more precious than the life of your Muslim brother, even if you are a millionaire, handsome, intelligent, strong, from a high social class, and your Muslim brother is poor, oppressed, sick, foreign, and no one knows about him. Our first teacher, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), said: "The blood of Muslims is equal."
Why did I choose to talk about this topic at this time? For two reasons:
Because in these days, there is a lot of conspiracy against the oppressed Muslims, both old and new. And there are human devils who wear the cloak of Islam while helping the worst criminals against Muslims. These people's true nature is evident, but you see someone who prays, fasts, performs Hajj, and Umrah, and is a "slave of his masters" who buy his religion, morals, and dignity for a little worldly gain.
So we say to him: If you are not excused for helping to kill a Muslim even if someone puts a gun to your head, do you think you are excused by fear of being fired from your job, imprisoned, or having your salary cut? No, by Allah, no! But at that time, the word of Allah applies to you: {And whoever kills a believer intentionally, his recompense is Hell, wherein he will abide eternally, and Allah has become angry with him and has cursed him and prepared for him a great punishment}. And leave the job, salary, and status, for they will not benefit you afterward!
Which is worse: killing a Muslim or causing him to fall into fitnah (trial/temptation) from his religion? The answer is clear and straightforward from Allah, the Most High, and does not bear interpretation. He said: {And fitnah is worse than killing}.
Al-Tabari, may Allah have mercy on him, said in the interpretation of the verse: "Testing the believer in his religion until he turns away from it and becomes an associate of Allah after his Islam is worse for him and more harmful than being killed while remaining steadfast in his religion." The Muslim who is killed unjustly, perhaps that will be a cause for the forgiveness of his sins and his entry into Paradise, but when you help in causing people to fall into fitnah from their religion, you are causing them to abide in Hell.
From the sample that filled out the survey, about twenty thousand Muslims think that "yes, it is permissible" to kill a Muslim under duress, or they do not know the answer. And if we assume that the same percentage applies to all Muslims, we are talking about hundreds of millions who are ignorant of the correct answer to this important issue.
This is evidence of a great flaw in the poor educational system and the Muslims' knowledge of their religion, and this deficiency can be easily used to make them fall into the greatest of major sins after shirk, which is killing the soul that Allah has forbidden.
The world "is not worth it" my brothers, by Allah, it is not worth it, {And the life of this world is not but amusement and play; but indeed, the home of the Hereafter - that is the life, if only they knew}.
Spread and magnify the sanctity of the blood of Muslims. We ask Allah to take us to Himself innocent of all forbidden blood. Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah. Thank you.
