Introduction: The Dangerous Justification of Your Religion!

We continue with the series "Defending the Sharia". In the last eight episodes, we have explained ideological evils that resulted from the involvement of those affiliated with Islamic work in the structures of the current ruling system. Today, with the help of Allah, we will explain another very serious consequence, which is the involvement of the general public in justifying ruling by other than what Allah has revealed.

This is a very important and precise matter, my brothers, so I ask you to pay attention to it. My speech here is not about ruling by other than what Allah has revealed, but about justifying this ruling. And to emphasize, I will not address here the disbelief of those who rule by other than what Allah has revealed or their lack of disbelief, the permissibility or impermissibility. Rather, let us organize our thoughts.

Ruling by Other Than What Allah Has Revealed: A Necessarily Known Disobedience

First, let us agree that ruling by other than what Allah has revealed is, in its essence, disobedience, regardless: a disobedience that is forgiven or not forgiven.

Before the Arab revolutions, the disagreement between the scholars of Salafism and the scholars of the sultans was focused on whether this ruling was disbelief or a non-forgiven disobedience. And if His saying was mentioned: {And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed, then it is those who are the disbelievers} [Al-Ma'idah 5:44], the scholars of the sultans would strive to transfer their sovereignty from the circle of "the disbelievers" to "the sinners" or "the oppressors" to prove to them the name of Islam, and thus obligate their people to obey him in disobedience. They would strive to try to prove that the disbelief of their ruler is a disbelief without disbelief. But the audacity of most of them did not reach the point of denying that this secular ruling is disobedience.

Therefore, let us agree that ruling by other than the Sharia is disobedience, regardless: forgiven or not forgiven. Then let us agree that it being disobedience is a matter known necessarily from the religion, and it is not permissible for a Muslim to deny it. For the evidence for it is abundant and sound, such as His saying: {But no, by your Lord, they will not believe until they make you judge concerning that over which they dispute among themselves} [Al-Nisa 4:65], and His saying: {Then We have put you on a clear way of the command, so follow it, and do not follow the inclinations of those who do not know} [Al-Shura 42:15], and His saying: {The command is not but for Allah} [Yusuf 12:40], and His saying: {They have taken their scholars and monks as lords besides Allah} [Al-Tawbah 9:31]. And the interpretation of the Prophet (peace be upon him) of this verse in the hadith of Tirmidhi and others, and the consensus of the Muslims on the prohibition of ruling by other than the Sharia, and their consensus on the prohibition of changing the reference of the Sharia, so that ruling by other than what Allah has revealed is a law followed, obligatory, protected by force, imposed on the people, and punished for those who oppose it, and not occasional slips.

The Development of Justifying Ruling by Other Than What Allah Has Revealed

The tragedy that resulted from the participation of Islamists in the structures of the Jahili ruling system and not distinguishing themselves from it, is that they thereby confused those who followed them from the peoples, and that its application means provoking the international system, and that freedom is prior to the Sharia, and that the needs of the people must be met before its application, and other expressions that justify ruling by other than what Allah has revealed even in a gradual manner.

The scholars of evil would strive to prove the Islam of the rulers by claiming that disbelief only occurs if the ruler permits ruling by other than what Allah has revealed. And the scholars of Salafism respond to them that this ruling is in itself a disbelieving act, whether he permits it or not. Then some people are led to permit it itself, and Allah is the one sought for help.

The matter is no longer limited to the excuse of being unable to apply the Sharia due to the inability of the Islamists to control the state apparatus. Of course, this is not an excuse, as we have explained that it is not permissible for them to participate in a Jahili ruling system that they cannot control, and we have explained the destructive effects of that. But the problem is that some people have circulated arguments that justify the Islamists' suspension of the Sharia even if they were able to control the state apparatus. This means, in the end, leading the people to permit a matter whose prohibition is necessarily known from the religion, and justifying and rationalizing it, and considering it wisdom and rationality, while considering ruling by the Sharia as recklessness and foolishness and not considering the stage.

The Danger of Justifying Ruling by Other Than What Allah Has Revealed

This, my brothers, is no different from spreading among the people the permissibility of alcohol or fornication or defending the practice of usury. It means corrupting the beliefs of the people with deviations that are more evil and have a worse effect than the temptation of the creation of the Quran or the frowning and postponement and withdrawal.

In the days of the clear tyrants, those who ruled by other than what Allah has revealed were a few who were followed by a segment of the beneficiaries, while the general public rejected them, even if only in their hearts. But the dangerous thing in our days, in the days of the bearded Jahili ruling system, is the involvement of large segments of the people in this crime and its justification, so that they are feared for the sin of approving it and permitting it, as if they had participated in the crime of the Jahili ruling itself.

There are many evidences for this in the sound hadiths, such as his saying (peace be upon him): "There will be rulers, so you will know and disapprove, and there will be rulers, so you will know and disapprove, so whoever knows will be innocent, and whoever disapproves will be safe, but whoever approves and follows." Our goal is to inform people that their justification is detestable to Allah and destructive, and we fear for them from it. If we present what we have of truth well, I believe that many of them will return to it, if Allah wills.
