Peace be upon you and God’s mercy and blessings.
Regarding the insolence of one of the fallen toward the status of the Prophet ﷺ: imagine being offered a deal that seems tempting in terms of numbers—thousands of disbelievers entering the religion of God, and the Muslims growing stronger in numbers and means, all for the price of merely remaining silent about a single word that diminishes your Prophet ﷺ!
Some may, with the logic of imagined self-interest, think the deal is profitable. Yet the honor of faith has an entirely different scale.
This scale was embodied by Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may God have mercy on him, who wrote his book The Drawn Sword Against Those Who Insult the Messenger while imprisoned and enduring hardship. He rose in defense of the status of prophethood when a foolish criminal dared to insult it. In a sentence that is the jewel of his book, he, may God have mercy on him, said:
“A single word of insult against the Prophet ﷺ cannot be justified even if it leads to the Islam of thousands of disbelievers. For God and His Messenger love more that the religion of God should prevail to such an extent that no one dares to utter a word of slander against it, than that multitudes should enter it while it is violated and humiliated.”
This statement, my dear ones, is not mere words—it is a principle in the jurisprudence of honor. We do not desire a quantitative Islam built upon the ruins of dignity and sanctities. What is the value of an increase in the number of Muslims if they accept humiliation in their religion?
The true goal is to establish the religion of God in such a way that those who dare to assault its sanctities fear even to think of touching them. The belittling of sanctities is the first step toward the psychological and existential collapse of the nation.
It is not fitting for one who leads in calling to God to address those who insult with lukewarm, hollow words. Such an approach in fact contributes to demolishing the very dignity that serves as the fence of faith. This is a matter of decisiveness and resolve, of making clear to people the true status of the Prophet ﷺ—not a matter of softness or "patting on the back."
Unfortunately, we live in an era where meanings, inanimate objects, and people with no sanctity are revered, and whoever touches them is accused, criminalized, and punished. If our sanctities are of little worth to them, then they must at least be precious to us.
Today’s duty goes beyond mere passing condemnation. It begins with instilling in our children, from the earliest age, the concept of revering the Prophetic status. Instead of educational curricula that drown them in details many of which are of no benefit in this life or the next, our children must learn to honor the sanctities of Islam and the status of the Prophet ﷺ. For there is no true value in life without this.
Would that we make it a habit with our children to read from the aforementioned book by Ibn Taymiyyah or its summaries, so that we and they may learn that upholding the Prophet ﷺ is not merely an emotional outburst—it is a firm creed and a way of life.
Peace be upon you and God’s mercy and blessings.
