Is the Rock of Jerusalem Suspended?
Is the Rock of Jerusalem Hanging?
Peace be upon you, dear audience, may Allah bless you with goodness.
My daughter told me today that they learned that there is a rock in Jerusalem that tried to follow the Prophet, peace be upon him, and remained hanging in the air. Brothers, this story is widespread and it is from falsehood and superstitions.
If you go to the Islam Question and Answer website, which I always recommend, and write the same title as this segment: "Is the Rock of Jerusalem hanging in the air?" You will find a sufficient and adequate answer that this is not correct and it contradicts the witnessed reality, for it is connected to a mountain and not hanging in the air. And they mention that it is present with the known cosmic causes that we have.
And Allah, the Exalted, is undoubtedly able to hang a rock in the air, for everything on earth and in the heavens is present in its place by His power, may He be glorified and exalted. And He is the One who says: {And [remember] when We raised the mountain above them as if it were a canopy} [Al-A'raf: 171]. He is able, exalted be He, to do that, but this rock is not hanging in the air.
The same thing if you go to the Islam Web website, they mention in it the speech of Ibn Al-Qayyim and how he said: "And every hadith about the rock is a lie fabricated." And they quote the speech of the commentator Al-Alusi, may Allah have mercy on him, how people have passed on that the Prophet, peace be upon him, ascended to the heavens during his ascension, and there are traces of his footsteps.
The Danger of Spreading Superstitions to Generations
Teachers, fear Allah in our children. We ask you to verify before you convey these things to the children. It is enough that we, our generation, inherited or bequeathed many of these stories from schools. It is time not to bequeath such stories to our children. This chain must be broken, and I do not know when it will be broken, and Allah is our helper.
Especially, dear audience, when a child gets used to hearing about an extraordinary news item and then it turns out to be false, he begins to doubt all extraordinary news, both what is true and what is false. That is, when a child is told that a rock followed the Prophet, and the Prophet, peace be upon him, continued in his ascension, but the rock remained hanging in the air by the power of Allah. Then the child grows up and discovers that the rock is not hanging.
The problem is that this news has become poisonous to him, meaning the story of the Isra and Mi'raj has become what? Wrong. What is wrong? The fear is that he will leave the story altogether and mock and ridicule the unseen and extraordinary events altogether. Therefore, no, the incident of the Isra and Mi'raj is indeed a true and true incident, but the story of the rock is not true nor is it true. So let us fear Allah, the Exalted, in our children and let us verify before we spread. Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah.
