Peace be upon you. People often say, "Gaza is living in real hell," and before that, Western and Israeli politicians said, "We will open the gates of hell upon Gaza."
What Gaza is enduring is horrors and calamities that would melt mountains, a suffering that never ends. We do not truly grasp its magnitude as we go about our lives, no matter how much grief and pain we feel for our brothers and sisters. Our tongues are tied by the weight of the pain, were it not for our brothers and sisters in Gaza themselves urging us to turn our focus toward them. That is why we continue to remind.
To my brothers and sisters, let me remind you that no matter what our brothers and sisters endure, nothing compares to hell, and nothing compares to the punishment of Allah. The torment of people is not like the torment of Allah. Allah says:
On that Day, no one will inflict His punishment like His, nor will anyone bind with chains like His.
The torment of those disbelieving criminals in Hell, and the chains with which they will be bound, are unlike any torment or binding in this world. And though our brothers and sisters in Gaza may be described as dying a thousand deaths before they die—we ask Allah to accept them as martyrs—even if this has lasted for two years, in contrast, their enemies are described by Allah with the fate that awaits them:
But for those who disbelieve, there is the fire of Hell. It will not be decreed for them to die, nor will its punishment be lightened for them. Thus do We recompense every ungrateful one.
This is not for one year, two years, a hundred, or two hundred, but forever without end. They will plead to the Keeper of Hell, "O Malik, let your Lord put an end to us!" And the response will come: "You must remain."
Allah says: Among the people is he who says, "We believe in Allah," but when he is harmed for Allah's sake, he considers the persecution of people as [tantamount to] the punishment of Allah.
By Allah, no matter how the disbelievers torment anyone—through killing, displacement, or starvation—this is not like the punishment of Allah. The shackles around their necks and the chains they are dragged by:
When the shackles are around their necks and the chains are dragged through boiling water, then into the Fire they will be cast.
They will be dragged through scalding water before being thrown into the Fire to become its fuel. When they ask for food, what will it be?
Indeed, the tree of Zaqqum will be the food of the sinful, like molten brass boiling in the bellies, like the boiling of scalding water. "Seize him and drag him into the midst of Hell. Then pour over his head the punishment of scalding water."
Then it will be said to him in reproach: "Taste! You are the honored, the noble!"
You are the leader, the minister, the one who wears the suit and tie, who orders your planes and missiles to be launched while sitting in air-conditioned halls, watching with satisfaction and vengeance as buildings are bombed and bodies are incinerated.
Of course, this is not a discussion about the jurisprudential use of literary expressions like "Gaza is living in hell." It goes without saying that all of this does not mean we can remain silent about the horrors happening in Gaza on the pretext that their enemies will enter Hell.
But we say this so that suspicions do not worsen, and so that the disbelieving criminals are not given more importance than they deserve, no matter how tyrannical and oppressive they become. This is to offer patience to our brothers and sisters—may Allah relieve them, grant us victory over their enemies, and grant victory to all who defend them. May He heal the hearts of the believers from their enemies, guide and support them, and humiliate those who incite against them.
We say this as a reminder of the Hereafter and its just scales: And in the Hereafter, there is severe punishment, and there is forgiveness from Allah and His pleasure. But the life of this world is not but the enjoyment of delusion.
And again: On that Day, no one will inflict His punishment like His, nor will anyone bind with chains like His.
And in contrast to what those disbelieving criminals will face, the believers will be told: O tranquil soul, return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him]. Enter among My [righteous] servants and enter My Paradise.
May Allah make you, O people of Gaza, among those who hear this great call on the Day of Resurrection. Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah.
