Making Jokes About Angels!
Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah, dear people.
The Sanctity of Angels and the Impermissibility of Mocking Them
Something that many people do not know is that angels hold great sanctity. It is not permissible to mock them or mention them in any way that shows disrespect, as some heedless people do in our times.
You may see someone say after eating food at a friend's house, for example: "The righteous ate your food, the angels have visited you except for Gabriel." They are asked, "Why except for Gabriel?" They reply, "He prays for you after tea."
Do you know what you are saying, you lighthearted one? About whom Allah the Almighty said: "{The Trustworthy Spirit has brought it down.} And Allah said about Gabriel: {Indeed, it is the word of a noble Messenger * Possessor of power with the Owner of the Throne, obeyed there [in the heavens], trustworthy.}"
All these descriptions are of Gabriel, peace be upon him: noble in status, honored, meaning he has a high rank with Allah the Almighty and an exalted position, obeyed and listened to in the highest assembly, trustworthy. Do you make him come after tea and before tea? This is a lack of manners with him, peace be upon him.
The Recording Angels and the Angel of Death
Allah the Almighty said about the recording angels: "{And indeed, over you are protectors, * Noble and recording * They know whatever you do.} Allah wants us to be ashamed before the recording angels, to honor them, and to respect them, not to disobey Allah in their presence, as they are entrusted with recording our deeds.
If you ask any one of us to mention the six pillars of faith, the first thing they mention is: "To believe in Allah and His angels." Fine, what does believing in the angels mean? Believing in their existence only? No, but also honoring them and respecting them, for this is part of faith.
There are people who mock the Angel of Death, whom they call Azrael, although this name is not proven, by the way. The Angel of Death is a messenger from the messengers of Allah, entrusted by Him, the Most High. Allah the Almighty said: "{And He is the subjugator over His servants. And He sends guardians over you until when death comes to one of you, Our messengers take him, and they do not fail [in their duty]}."
It is possible that in a family where death is frequent, someone may say jokingly: "It is as if there is a feud between you and the Angel of Death," God forbid. This is a lack of manners with the angels.
The Ruling on Mocking Angels
Brothers, this is a serious matter involving faith and disbelief. Ibn Hazm, may Allah have mercy on him, said in his book "Al-Fasl fi al-Milal wa al-Ahwa' wa al-Nihal": "It is authentically narrated that whoever mocks Allah the Almighty, or an angel from the angels, or a prophet from the prophets, peace be upon them, or a verse from the Quran, or an obligation from the obligations of the religion, all of these are the signs of Allah the Almighty. After reaching him with the proof, he is a disbeliever."
Ibn Hazm also said in "Al-Muhalla": "All the laws, and the Quran, are from the signs of Allah the Almighty, so he is thereby a disbeliever, an apostate, and he has the ruling of an apostate."
You will say: "I do not mock them, but I joke about them." This joking is only out of disrespect, and it is like mockery. If you truly honored them in your heart, you would not do this.
Ibn Najim al-Hanafi said in "Al-Bahr al-Raiq": "He said that a responsible person who mocks an angel or disrespects him is a disbeliever." Mocking the angels is disrespect, so beware, may Allah guide you.
Of course, here we encounter two types of people. One says to you: "You mean you have left the problems of the people"
One says to you: "You mean you have left the problems of the people" and left the issues of the nation, and you have come to talk about mocking the angels!
Response to Objections
Brother, this religion is all interconnected. If faith is corrupted, everything is corrupted. If the glorification of Allah, the glorification of His messengers, the glorification of His angels, and the glorification of His book are corrupted, what remains of the religion? This is the foundation of the religion.
The second type says to you: "Brother, this is a joke, this is a prank, this is a jest." Brother, joking and pranking should not be in the sanctities of Allah. Joking and pranking should not be in the glorification of Allah. Joking and pranking should not be about the angels. Joking and pranking should not be about the prophets. Joking and pranking should not be about the signs of Allah.
This is not a joke, this is disrespect. And disrespecting the angels is disbelief. So beware, dear people, and convey this to those around you.
Conclusion and Recommendations
This matter is not simple, nor is it easy. It is a matter related to faith and disbelief. So beware of falling into this pitfall, and beware of hearing such jokes or spreading them. And teach your children and daughters to honor the angels, to honor the messengers of Allah, to honor the book of Allah, and to honor Allah the Most High.
We ask Allah to guide us and you to the right path, and to grant us the honor of His sanctities. Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
