If you experience sudden neck pain after a natural therapy session or a head impact accident, examine the size of your pupils; if one is smaller than usual, you should go to the hospital immediately.
Similarly, for doctors, if a patient presents with these symptoms or signs of a stroke, the first simple examination is to check the size of the pupils. If one is smaller than the other, the cause may be a tear or dissection and blood collection in the wall of the carotid artery, medically known as (Carotid Artery Dissection).
The reason for pupil constriction in this case is that the sympathetic nerve (Sympathetic Nerve) supplying the pupil is adjacent to the carotid artery; a dissection of the carotid artery weakens the ability of the sympathetic nerve to dilate the pupil on the affected side.
Diagnosis is confirmed through "ultrasound" or computed tomography angiography (CT Angiography), which greatly influences the course of treatment. Such a simple examination can save the patient's life.
