Episode 1 - Understanding God's Word Is a Blessing!
Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
Understanding the Words of Allah is a Blessing
The result of understanding the Quran is a blessing, so comprehending the meanings of the Quran is a bliss. This bliss is not deserved by everyone. The idle ones do not deserve it; even if they understand the Quran and taste the states of faith, they will prefer the cheap pleasures of this world over the bliss of the Quran.
Divine Jealousy Over His Words
Therefore, Allah the Most High is jealous over His words being understood by such people. Yes, Allah is jealous over His words being understood by them, for understanding and savoring the meanings is a bliss they do not deserve.
Where is this meaning in the Book of Allah? Where is the meaning that Allah is jealous over His words being understood by those who do not deserve to understand them?
Quranic Verses Confirming the Meaning
There are many verses with this meaning, including His saying in Surah Al-Isra in verses 45 and 46: "And when you recite the Quran, We place between you and those who do not believe in the Hereafter a concealed barrier. And We have placed over their hearts coverings lest they should understand it, and in their ears deafness."
It is as if Allah is jealous over the Quran from entering these heedless hearts. Why did Allah conceal His words from them?
The Consequence of Turning Away from the Truth
Allah the Most High said after these verses: "We know best what they listen to when they listen to you, and when they conspire in secret. The wrongdoers say, 'You follow none but a man bewitched.' Look how they strike for you their examples, they have strayed, so they are not able to find a way."
They described the Messenger, peace be upon him, as bewitched, and they know that they are lying and unjust in that. So when they went astray, Allah led their hearts astray, so He concealed them from understanding His words. "Indeed, Allah does not do injustice to the people at all, but it is the people who are unjust to themselves."
Ibn Al-Qayyim said: And he who does not respond to the caller who guides you, leave him Every one who becomes a caller to misguidance should be left And say to the one who has gone far away, it is sufficient as a punishment Your absence from the one who matters, if you were aware
Meaning, it is sufficient as a punishment not to understand the meanings of the Quran. Oh, the beauty of the girl who is guided to a blind and needy man, empty of love. Imagine a beautiful girl marrying a blind man who does not desire women, does he deserve her? Likewise, the meanings of the Quran do not deserve to be understood by those who do not know their value. Be miserly with them if you know their value until you see a worthy one who comes to you with good intentions.
Lessons Learned
What are the lessons learned from today's reminder? First: Understanding the Quran is a blessing, an honor, and a privilege. Second: Beware of turning away from the call to truth, lest Allah places between you and understanding His words a concealed barrier, for Allah is jealous over His words being understood by those who do not deserve this understanding.
Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah.
