What Comes After (In Seven Years)?

٧ فبراير ٢٠١٩
Full Transcript

Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.

Dear brothers, many of us have watched the film "In Seven Years" broadcast by Al Jazeera. The purpose of my speech is to know what position we take after watching this film. I will make my notes in the form of points so that we can remember them, God willing.

The First Point: Let's Be Practical

Let's be practical, let's be practical. That is, regardless of the film's producer and his intentions, and Al Jazeera's channel and its orientation, do you think there is anyone who causes doubt and skepticism about Islam among our children? The answer: Yes, of course.

So, what should we do? What is the legal position required of us towards them?

First: Discuss with those who leave their religion and invite them to Islam again, hoping to guide them. Second: We must protect our children from the fate of these people. That is, we study the causes of this phenomenon and work to treat it, instead of remaining to manage crises and wake up very late.

The causes are many, and God does not burden us with changing except what we can change. We can do a lot, God willing, instead of lamenting our fate and wasting our time on what is not beneficial.

Empty Personalities and Their Causes

The personalities that appeared in the film, dear brothers, are clearly empty and hollow, so it was easy for them to fall into the furnace of atheism. What contributes to the production of these empty personalities?

  • Materialistic Media: Which obscures the human being from the great existential questions: Who am I? Who created me? What does He want from me? Where is the destiny?
  • Curricula: Including Islamic education curricula that do not touch reality.
  • The Role of Oppressive Systems: In obscuring scholars and reformist symbols and buying the conscience of others.
  • Most importantly: The Neglect of Parents. Here comes our greatest role.

The Role of Parents

Our role here is the excessive preoccupation of parents with raising children, their ignorance in answering their children's doctrinal questions, and not connecting children to Islamic history. All of this produces the empty, hollow human being like the personalities that appeared in the film. This hollowness and emptiness will continue to supply the furnace of atheism with more victims.

And we will return, God willing, at the end of the speech to very important principles on which we raise ourselves first, then our children, so that we do not cause the production of empty personalities. So the first point: Let's be practical, let's be practical after watching any film or any product.

The Second Point: Let's Separate Things from Each Other

Brothers, let's separate things from each other. That is, there is a mix of several things: understanding the motives of some youth for atheism, sympathizing with their atheism, justifying their atheism, being keen to help them, mercy for them, bearing the responsibility that some of us may turn them away from Islam. Indeed, these meanings are some right and some wrong, and the difference between them is a hair's breadth.

Allah the Almighty says: {And We have not sent you except as a mercy to the worlds}. So it is not my right to say: "God does not guide the imperfect among them, the boundary is not important." No, but we love guidance for them. But, people, at the same time, it is a disaster to make excuses for them or lessen the horror of their disbelief after Islam. These people have read the Quran, and He the Almighty says: {And how can you disbelieve while to you are being recited the verses of Allah and among you is His Messenger}. The Messenger has died, but his Sunnah is among us. {And how can you disbelieve while to you are being recited the verses of Allah and among you is His Messenger and whoever holds firmly to Allah has indeed been guided to a straight path}.

So take care, brother, that your good opinion of these people and making excuses for them leads you to think ill of Allah that He did not make His signs sufficient and healing for those who seek the truth with sincerity and honesty with themselves. But {Man is a witness against himself, and even if he were to present his excuses}. Our Lord, the Almighty, said, so no one disbelieves in the signs of Allah except the wicked who has a personal deviation, following whims, and heart diseases.

Sympathy and Justification

Some people will hate this speech and want to make excuses for the personalities that appeared and for those who leave Islam. Okay, after you have made excuses for them, will you look for the causes and fix them? Will you try to guide them? If not, then your sympathy will be directed by the media to normalize atheism as we will mention shortly.

Okay, can we as Muslims turn these youth away from Islam? Does our saying that their exit from Islam is a crime mean that we exempt ourselves from the responsibility of this alienation? No, never. I say this from the point of view of our good opinion of Allah that {And your Lord does not wrong anyone}. But, people, when Satan comes, he tempts one of them to disbelieve after Islam, Satan gives him psychological justifications to laugh at himself. He says to him: "Do you see what the Muslims are doing? You do not deserve to belong to them."

If we as Muslims are indeed alienating from Islam, then we bear a sin. And whoever apostates from Islam on the pretext of our actions bears his sin as well, because he deceives himself and makes excuses for things that are not true excuses. Allah the Almighty says: {And do not make your oaths a means of deception among you, lest a foot should slip after it has been firm}. Yes, so if you cause people to slip from Islam with your actions and turn them away from the path of Allah with this, you will taste evil and have a great torment.

Do we clear the field of the apostate? No, no, never, {To every man is due that which he has earned}. You have your sin, but this does not reduce their sins at all. The most important thing in all the equation is that you remember that {And your Lord does not wrong the servants}.

Yes, I must know the excuses that those who apostatized after Islam make excuses for, not because they are excuses and justifications that acquit him of the crime of disbelief, but to help them with themselves, to alert them to how they laugh at themselves, so that I can close the doors of Satan to their hearts. Close the doors of Satan to their hearts. They have a natural disposition that drives them to believe in Allah, the revelation that reaches them from Allah is preserved, and they can return. Understanding the causes does not mean at all that they are excused.

And by the grace of Allah, brothers, I broadcast clips of "The Journey of Certainty" from a while ago, whose goal is to strengthen certainty in the hearts of believers and to retrieve those who have fallen into the net of disbelief and doubt. And many of the youth, praise be to Allah, have expressed that these episodes were a reason for their faith after doubt. And those who appeared in the film, I am ready for their discussions and answering their questions if they are seeking the truth.

So this is the second point: separate things from each other, know the causes to treat them, and beware of being alienating to people from Islam so that you bear their sin, and call those who disbelieved to Islam again with mercy for them, and at the same time beware of lessening the crime of disbelief after Islam or justifying it.

The Third Point: Beware of Normalizing Atheism

Brothers, in dealing with this issue, it is very important that we do not act in a way that threatens our Islam and the Islam of our children. Think now about the psychology of your son who sees you speaking about those who disbelieved after their Islam with excessive sympathy and avoiding terms of condemnation for them. The impression he will have is that disbelief is a matter less serious than drugs, murder, or theft.

Is it not enough that our brothers, the callers to misguidance, make disbelief in the Quran and the prophethood of Muhammad (peace be upon him) a secondary matter if a person adorns himself with good morals and is humane, supporting the oppressed? When you see Islam being attacked globally, scholars being thrown into prisons, laws being legislated, and curricula being changed to strip the nation of its Islam, and then films like this one happen, creating a kind of sympathy for atheists, what do you expect will happen to the beliefs of our children? What do you expect will happen to the beliefs of our children and their view of Islam and monotheism?

It is not unlikely in the near future, brothers, that laws will be legislated considering atheists a sect in society, criminalizing by law anyone who misleads them or warns against them or ridicules their views. Is that reasonable? Yes, of course, it is reasonable. In Western countries, they have started to normalize deviance, for example, by preparing public opinion and conducting interviews with them after they were ostracized, and the matter began with spreading the false science myths about deviant sexual inclinations. Then, when the ground was prepared, the matter moved to legislating laws to protect deviance and promote it, and it ended with criminalizing those who try to treat deviant inclinations by the force of law. That is, according to the law, if someone tries to treat a deviant person from these deviant inclinations, they are criminalized legally as previously mentioned.

Similarly, normalizing atheism can be a prelude to legislating laws to make them a citizen group with rights, as they say, including respecting their views and not hurting their feelings by ridiculing their atheism. Then, those who expose the corruption of their beliefs are accused of undermining national unity. There is a percentage of people who do not believe in the existence of God, and these include scholars and discoverers. That is, normalizing atheism, normalizing atheism.

But brother, notice yourself how the normalization of disbelief begins to seep into your heart. If it is said to you about those who appeared in the film: "These are the disbelievers, and the first disbeliever said this and that," you will be repulsed, because the words disbeliever and apostate are frightening words that stir up a "bag" of psychological reactions and evoke a pile of images and "stereotypes." While when I am repulsed

While when I am repulsed

The Effect of Language on Normalization

While when I say to you: "These are the young people who have existential questions, these are those who have psychological problems, these are those who have this and that," you start to sympathize with them. And this sympathy may be required at a certain stage, but it may lead to the normalization of atheism, and this is the danger.

So, beware of normalizing atheism, and beware of reaching a stage where atheism becomes a normal matter, or atheists become a legally protected group, or criminalizing atheism or ridiculing the views of atheists becomes a crime. This is the danger that we must beware of.

Conclusion and Recommendations

Therefore, these are the three points I wanted to focus on after watching this film:

  1. Let us be practical: Deal with the phenomenon seriously, search for the causes and treat them, and protect our children from falling into this trap.
  2. Let us separate the issues from each other: Distinguish between understanding the motives and sympathizing with the people, and justifying disbelief or mitigating its danger. We bear our responsibility if we are the cause of people's aversion, but we do not exempt the apostate from his responsibility.
  3. Beware of normalizing atheism: Do not allow ourselves or our children to get used to the idea of atheism or see it as a normal or acceptable matter, and be careful of the language we use so that we do not contribute to this normalization.

Important Principles for Raising Children

And in conclusion, I return to the very important principles that I mentioned at the beginning, which we must educate ourselves first and then our children on, so that we do not cause the production of empty personalities:

  • Connecting children to Allah the Almighty: Planting the belief in Allah the Almighty in their hearts, introducing them to His names and attributes, His wisdom in His creation, and His greatness.
  • Answering existential questions: We must be ready to answer our children's doctrinal and philosophical questions clearly and logically, and not avoid them.
  • Connecting children to the Quran and the Sunnah: Making them a primary reference for their lives, contemplating the verses of Allah, and understanding the Sunnah of His Prophet (peace be upon him).
  • Connecting children to Islamic history: Introducing them to the greatness of their civilization, the heroism of their ancestors, and their contributions to building humanity, so that they are proud of their religion and identity.
  • Developing the sound nature: Helping children develop their sound nature that drives them to believe in Allah and avoid anything that obscures this nature.
  • Good example: We, the fathers and mothers, must be a good example for our children in our commitment to our religion and morals.
  • Open dialogue: Encourage open dialogue with children about issues of faith and disbelief, doubt and certainty, and listen to their fears and questions with an open heart.

I ask Allah the Almighty to guide our youth, both boys and girls, and to establish us and them on the truth, and to protect us from all evil and temptation.

Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.

The Importance of Certainty in Confronting Doubts

In this context, I would like to emphasize the importance of building certainty in the hearts of our children. Certainty is not just intellectual knowledge, but it is a heartfelt tranquility that does not waver in the face of doubts and doubts. This certainty is what makes a person steadfast in his religion, even if he is exposed to social or media pressures.

  • Building certainty through Islamic knowledge: Teaching children the foundations of Islamic doctrine from its correct sources, and explaining the rational and transmitted evidence for the existence of Allah and His oneness, the truth of the prophethood of Muhammad (peace be upon him), and the authenticity of the Quran.
  • Developing critical thinking: Teaching children how to think critically and analyze information, so that they do not fall prey to the doubts propagated by atheists or skeptics. They should learn how to distinguish between argument and claim, and between evidence and illusion.
  • Knowing the doubts of atheists and responding to them: It is not meant that we drown our children in doubts, but that we prepare them to deal with them. Short and convincing responses to the most common doubts can be presented in a way that suits their ages and intellectual levels, with emphasis on the fact that faith is not just the absence of doubts, but a firm conviction based on evidence.
  • Focusing on the spiritual and worship aspect: Faith is not just intellectual convictions, but also a spiritual relationship with Allah. Encourage children to pray, read the Quran, remember Allah, and supplicate, as these acts of worship strengthen the connection with Allah and increase certainty and tranquility in the heart.
  • Providing a supportive faith environment: The home, school, and community surrounding the children should be an environment that enhances faith and Islamic values, and reduces exposure to negative influences that may shake their faith.

The Role of Educational and Da'wah Institutions

The role of education is not limited to the family alone, but extends to include educational and da'wah institutions.

  • Educational Curricula: Educational curricula, particularly Islamic education curricula, should be vibrant and contemporary, addressing the reality of youth and their questions. They should present Islam as a comprehensive way of life that answers all of humanity's existential questions and provides solutions to their problems.
  • The Role of Scholars and Preachers: Scholars and preachers should be close to the youth, listening to their questions and doubts, and providing them with convincing answers in a simple and endearing manner. They should be good role models in their morals and behavior, and should stay away from intimidation and excommunication tactics.
  • Use of Modern Media: We should utilize modern media, such as the internet and social media platforms, to spread correct religious awareness, present attractive and convincing Islamic content to the youth, and effectively respond to the doubts that are circulating.

Warning Against Negligence in Confronting Atheism

In conclusion, I reiterate the warning against negligence in confronting the phenomenon of atheism. It is not just a "difference of opinion" that can be coexisted with, but a danger that threatens the beliefs of our children and the future of our nation. We must deal with it seriously and wisely, and combine mercy towards atheists and inviting them to the truth, with firmness in defending our faith and protecting our children from this danger.

O Allah, show us the truth as truth and grant us the ability to follow it, and show us falsehood as falsehood and grant us the ability to avoid it. And may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and all his companions.

The Importance of Unity and Cooperation

In the face of these great challenges, no individual or institution can work in isolation. It is an intellectual and ideological battle that requires the coordination of efforts and the unification of ranks.

  • Cooperation Between Family, School, and Mosque: There should be open channels of communication and continuous cooperation among these three institutions. The family is the first nurturer, the school is the educational environment, and the mosque is the spiritual and community center. If these parties work in harmony, they will form a strong shield to protect the children.
  • Supporting Youth Initiatives: There are many promising youth initiatives that work to enhance Islamic identity and confront doubts. These initiatives should be supported materially and morally, and guidance and direction should be provided to them, as the youth are the most capable of understanding the language of their peers and influencing them.
  • Building Support Networks for the Affected: There should be support networks for individuals who have fallen into the grip of doubt or atheism, or who have serious questions. These networks can provide them with a safe environment for dialogue, offer them psychological and spiritual support, and help them return to the path of truth.
  • Learning from Successful Experiences: There are successful experiences in different societies in confronting atheism and doubts. These experiences should be studied and benefited from, and adapted to suit our circumstances and culture.

Embracing Patience and Wisdom

The path of da'wah and reform is not easy, and it requires patience and wisdom.

  • Patience in the Face of Harm: Da'wah workers and reformers may face harm, accusations, and defamation, but they must embody patience and steadfastness on the truth, drawing inspiration from the lives of the prophets and messengers.
  • Wisdom in Dealing: The approach towards atheists and skeptics should be with wisdom and good advice, and argumentation with what is best. The goal is to guide people, not to repel them, and to convince them, not to force them.
  • Not Despairing of Guidance: One should not despair of the guidance of anyone, for the hearts of people are between two fingers of the Merciful, who turns them as He wills. It may take a long time, and a person may go through different stages, but hope in Allah never ceases.

Supplication and Seeking Help from Allah

Finally, let us not forget that all human efforts are only completed by seeking help from Allah the Almighty and supplicating to Him. Guidance is in His hands, Glorified and Exalted be He.

  • Frequent Supplication: We should frequently supplicate for our children and the youth of the Muslims for guidance and steadfastness, and may Allah protect them from trials, both apparent and hidden.
  • Reliance on Allah: We take the means and strive, but we rely on Allah in the outcomes, for what Allah wills happens, and what He does not will, does not happen.

This issue is not just an intellectual one, but a critical one that concerns the hereafter of our children and future generations. Let us be up to the responsibility, work diligently and sincerely, and rely on Allah, for He is the best of helpers.

We ask Allah to make us among the guided and the guiding, and to benefit us with what He has taught us, and to teach us what benefits us, and to increase us in knowledge. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

The Importance of Building Individual Immunity

In addition to all of the above, it is very necessary to focus on building "self-immunity" in every individual, so that they become capable of confronting doubts and intellectual challenges on their own, without the constant need for guardianship or direct guidance.

  • Enhancing Self-Confidence and Faith: When an individual is confident in their faith and their ability to understand and defend it, they are less susceptible to being influenced by doubts. This confidence comes from knowledge and deep understanding, and from personal faith experience.
  • Developing Research and Verification Skills: Teaching children how to search for information from reliable sources, and how to distinguish between truth and falsehood, and between opinion and evidence. This enables them to evaluate doubts on their own and reach correct convictions.
  • Understanding the Nature of Doubts: Many of the doubts raised by atheists are not new, but are old doubts that have been repeatedly refuted throughout Islamic history. Understanding the nature of these doubts and their recurrence helps the individual not to be dazzled by them or consider them new discoveries.
  • Identifying the Fallacies of Atheism: Atheism is not a coherent intellectual structure, but rather relies on many logical and philosophical fallacies. Teaching children how to uncover these fallacies helps them see the weakness of the atheistic argument.
  • Focusing on the Positive Aspects of Faith: Instead of merely responding to doubts, we should focus on the beauties of faith, its power in giving meaning to life, providing psychological comfort, and offering a comprehensive moral framework. This positive aspect is what attracts hearts and steadies them.

The Role of Good Role Models in Society

Good role models are not limited to the family alone, but extend to include the entire society.

  • Scholars and Preachers: They should be role models in their knowledge, work, and morals, and should demonstrate the tolerance and ease of Islam, and be bridges of communication with the youth.
  • Intellectuals and Thinkers: Muslim intellectuals and thinkers can play a significant role in presenting Islam in a modern and convincing manner, and responding to doubts in a language that the educated youth understand.
  • Successful and Committed Youth: When the youth see their successful peers in their academic and practical lives, and those committed to their faith, this encourages them to emulate them and removes the negative stereotype that the media may promote about the religious.
  • The Muslim Community as a Whole: When the Muslim community is a strong and cohesive community, where justice, morals, and Islamic values prevail, it becomes attractive to people and presents a living model of the beauty and comprehensiveness of Islam.

Warning Against Extremism and Negligence

In dealing with this sensitive issue, we must beware of falling into extremism or negligence.

  • Extremism: This may manifest in unwarranted harshness, quick excommunication, turning people away from religion, or closing the door to dialogue, which pushes youth away instead of attracting them.
  • Negligence: This may manifest in being lax in stating the truth, downplaying the severity of atheism, not paying attention to the youth's questions, or leaving them prey to doubts without guidance.

What is required is the middle path that combines wisdom and mercy, strength in truth and gentleness in dealing, stating the danger of atheism and opening the door to repentance and guidance.

May Allah guide us to what He loves and is pleased with, and make us among those who listen to the word and follow the best of it. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

The Importance of Building Media Awareness

In our current era, media plays a pivotal role in shaping public consciousness and directing opinion. Therefore, building media awareness among individuals becomes an urgent necessity to confront the phenomenon of atheism and doubts.

  • Understanding Media Mechanisms: Educating children and youth on how media works, how it can direct public opinion, and how some issues are amplified while others are marginalized. This helps them read beyond the news and avoid being swayed by everything presented.
  • Identifying Hidden Agendas: Much media content, including films, series, and programs, may carry hidden agendas aimed at casting doubt on religion or promoting certain ideas. Individuals should be trained to discover and analyze these agendas.
  • Developing Critical Thinking Skills for Content: Instead of passively consuming content, individuals should be taught how to analyze media content, research its sources, and evaluate its credibility and neutrality.
  • Producing Alternative and Purposeful Content: It is not enough to merely warn against negative content; we must work on producing alternative, purposeful, and engaging media content that presents Islam in its true form and responds to doubts in a modern and convincing manner. This includes documentaries, television programs, digital content on social media, and more.

The Role of Art and Culture in Strengthening Faith

Art and culture have a profound impact on the heart and mind. They can be positively utilized to strengthen faith and confront atheism.

  • Purposeful Artistic Works: Producing films, series, plays, and novels that present inspiring stories about faith, discuss existential issues from an Islamic perspective, and highlight the beauties and values of religion.
  • Poetry and Literature: Using poetry and literature to reinforce faith values, express longing for Allah, contemplate His creation, and respond to doubts in a refined literary style.
  • Purposeful Music: Purposeful music and hymns can touch hearts and strengthen faith, away from content that may promote negative ideas.
  • Art and Cultural Exhibitions: Organizing art and cultural exhibitions that showcase Islamic art, highlight the civilizational contributions of Muslims, and introduce Muslim scholars and thinkers who combined science and faith.

Immunization Against Western Infatuation

Many young people may be infatuated with the scientific and technological progress in the West, associating it with atheism or secularism, leading them to believe that faith is incompatible with progress. This understanding must be corrected.

  • Separating Scientific Progress from Atheism: Clarifying that scientific progress is not the exclusive domain of atheists or secularists, and that many great scientists in history were believers, and that Islam encourages science, research, and contemplation.
  • Highlighting the Contributions of Islamic Civilization: Reminding youth of the great contributions of Islamic civilization in various sciences and how faith was a driving force for research and discovery.
  • Distinguishing Between Material Civilization and Spiritual Values: Teaching youth that there is a difference between material and technological progress and spiritual and moral values. That Western civilization, despite its material progress, suffers from deep spiritual and moral crises.
  • Pride in Islamic Identity: Instilling pride in the Islamic identity in the hearts of youth, and making them confident in their religion and capable of interacting with other civilizations without assimilation or blind infatuation.

This intellectual battle requires our constant vigilance, continuous work, and strategic planning. The future of our nation depends on our ability to intellectually and psychologically fortify our children.

May Allah make us among those who do good in speech and action, bless our efforts, and protect our nation from all evil. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

The Importance of Strengthening Family and Community Bonds

Strong family and community bonds play a crucial role in fortifying individuals against destructive ideas, including atheism. When an individual feels a sense of belonging and support, they are less likely to drift towards negative intellectual paths.

  • The Family as the First Fortress: The family should be the first safe and supportive haven for children. Building strong relationships based on love, respect, and open dialogue, where children feel comfortable raising their questions and concerns without fear of judgment or rejection.
  • Spending Quality Time with Children: Neglecting children leaves a void that negative ideas may fill. Spending quality time with them, listening to them, and sharing their interests strengthens bonds and makes them more open to parental guidance.
  • The Role of Grandparents and Relatives: Grandparents and relatives can play an important role in reinforcing religious and moral values, and passing on experiences and life lessons that enrich the awareness of youth.
  • The Cohesive Muslim Community: When the Muslim community is cohesive and cooperative, individuals feel they are part of a larger entity that supports and protects them. This cohesion reduces the sense of isolation that may drive some to seek alternative identities.
  • Active Community Institutions: Supporting and activating the role of community institutions such as Islamic centers, youth clubs, and charitable associations that provide purposeful activities and enhance religious and national belonging.

Confronting Spiritual and Emotional Void

Atheism often finds fertile ground in souls suffering from spiritual or emotional void. Therefore, addressing this void is an essential part of the immunization strategy.

  • Nourishing the soul with worship and remembrance: Teaching children the importance of acts of worship such as prayer, fasting, and reciting the Quran, not only as obligations, but as means to nourish the soul and feel tranquility, reassurance, and closeness to Allah.
  • Enhancing moral and humanitarian values: Focusing on the lofty Islamic values such as mercy, justice, benevolence, truthfulness, and honesty, and how they give life meaning and a higher purpose.
  • Serving the community and doing good to others: Encouraging youth to participate in voluntary work and community service. This gives them a sense of purpose and belonging, and fills the emotional and spiritual void in a positive way.
  • Developing talents and abilities: Helping youth discover and develop their talents and abilities in various fields (scientific, artistic, sports). This enhances their self-confidence and makes them feel valuable, reducing the chances of them being drawn to negative ideas.
  • Dealing with psychological crises: Providing psychological and social support to youth going through psychological or emotional crises. Many cases of atheism may be the result of psychological pressures or negative experiences that were not dealt with properly.

Conclusion and Final Recommendations

Confronting the phenomenon of atheism is not an easy or short-term task, but rather a continuous challenge that requires comprehensive and sustainable efforts at all levels: individual, family, community, and institutional.

Brief Recommendations:

  1. Focus on building certainty: Through Islamic scholarship, critical thinking, and faith-based education.
  2. Separate issues and do not confuse: The motives of atheism and sympathy for atheists, with justifying atheism and attempting to guide the atheist.
  3. Beware of normalizing atheism: And not being lax in stating its danger and criminalizing disbelief after faith.
  4. Work on treating the root causes: That lead to the production of empty personalities, such as materialistic media, ineffective curricula, oppressive systems, and parental negligence.
  5. Build individual immunity: By enhancing self-confidence and faith, and developing research and verification skills.
  6. Strengthen family and community ties: And provide a supportive and loving environment.
  7. Confront spiritual and emotional void: By nourishing the soul with worship and community service.
  8. Build media awareness: And produce alternative and purposeful content.
  9. Utilize art and culture: In enhancing faith and values.
  10. Embody patience and wisdom: And supplicate to Allah and seek His help at all times.

May Allah the Almighty protect our children and youth from all evil, and establish them upon His religion, and make them a comfort to our eyes in this world and the hereafter. And peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.

The Importance of Open and Constructive Dialogue

In light of the spread of various ideas and the diversity of information sources, open and constructive dialogue has become a necessity that cannot be dispensed with, especially with the youth who are facing a flood of doubts and questions.

  • Creating safe spaces for dialogue: We must provide safe spaces for youth, whether in the family, school, mosque, or youth centers, where they can freely raise their questions and doubts without fear of reprimand or criminalization.
  • Active listening: Before providing answers, we must listen carefully to the youth, understand their real questions and motivations. Many doubts may stem from personal experiences or psychological pressures, and not just purely intellectual questions.
  • Providing convincing answers: The answers we provide must be convincing intellectually and logically, and based on sound religious evidence. They should be in a simple and easy-to-understand style, away from complexity or verbosity.
  • Acknowledging common points: In dialogue with those who have doubts, it may be beneficial to start with common points or human values that everyone agrees upon, then build upon them to move to matters of faith.
  • Embodying patience and forbearance: Dialogue may take a long time, and the desired results may not come immediately. Patience and forbearance must be embodied, and one should not despair of the guidance of anyone.
  • Seeking the help of specialists: In some cases, doubts may be complex or require specialized knowledge in certain fields (such as philosophy, science, history). Here, the help of scholars and specialized thinkers capable of providing satisfactory answers must be sought.

The Role of New Media and Social Media

We cannot ignore the immense role that social media and digital platforms play in spreading ideas, whether positive or negative.

  • Effective and positive presence: Muslims, especially scholars, preachers, and aware youth, must have an effective and positive presence on these platforms. It is not enough to merely warn of their danger, but they must be utilized to spread good and call to Allah.
  • Producing attractive and convincing content: The content we provide must be visually attractive and intellectually convincing, and suitable for the nature of these platforms. Short videos, infographics, concise articles, podcasts, and others can be used.
  • Responding to doubts in a modern style: Responses to doubts must be quick, direct, and in a language that youth understand, utilizing the tools and techniques provided by these platforms.
  • Building positive virtual communities: Virtual groups and forums can be created that bring together youth interested in religion, and provide them with a safe environment for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and support.
  • Training youth on safe and aware use: Youth must be taught how to use social media consciously and responsibly, how to protect themselves from harmful content, and how to distinguish between reliable and unreliable information.

Future Challenges and How to Prepare for Them

The phenomenon of atheism and doubts is not a transient phenomenon, but rather part of broader intellectual challenges that may evolve and take new forms in the future. Therefore, we must be prepared to face these challenges.

  • Flexibility and adaptation: We must be flexible and able to adapt to the rapid changes in ideas and technologies. What is effective today may not be so tomorrow.
  • Investing in scientific research: We must invest in scientific research and specialized studies to understand the causes and motivations of atheism, analyze new doubts, and develop effective strategies to confront them.
  • Building a generation of thinkers and scholars: We must work on building a new generation of Muslim thinkers and scholars capable of leading intellectual dialogue and presenting Islam as solutions to the problems of the age.
  • International cooperation: Intellectual challenges do not recognize borders. There must be international cooperation between Islamic institutions and scholars in various countries to exchange experiences and knowledge and coordinate efforts.

In conclusion, our responsibility is great, and the trust is heavy. But with Allah's help and guidance, and through diligent and sincere work, we can protect our children and nation from these challenges, and light the path of truth and guidance for them.

O Allah, guide us and guide us with us, and make us a means of guidance for those who are guided. And praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

The Importance of Balance Between the Mind and Heart in Islamic Education

Faith in Islam is not merely a dry intellectual conviction, nor is it just an abstract emotional feeling. It is a balanced blend of intellectual conviction and heartfelt tranquility. Effective Islamic education must take this balance into account.

  • Developing the Intellectual Aspect:

    • Reflecting on the Signs of Allah: Encouraging children to reflect on the creation of the heavens and the earth, on themselves, and on natural phenomena, and how they point to the greatness, power, and wisdom of the Creator.
    • Studying the Prophet's Biography: Understanding the life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the signs of his prophethood, his miracles, and how his life was an embodiment of the Quran.
    • Learning About Scientific Miracles in the Quran and Sunnah: Presenting some aspects of the scientific miracles in the Quran and Sunnah, not as the sole proof of the truth of Islam, but as an aspect that enhances intellectual certainty.
    • Understanding Islamic Logic: Teaching children how to build logical arguments and how to refute doubts using reason and sound logic.
  • Developing the Emotional (Heartfelt) Aspect:

    • Instilling Love for Allah and His Messenger: Teaching children to love Allah the Almighty by learning His beautiful names and attributes, and to love the Prophet (peace be upon him) by learning about his character, morals, and mercy.
    • Feeling Serenity and Tranquility: Linking acts of worship, especially prayer and supplication, to feelings of mental comfort, serenity, and tranquility, and how they are a refuge for humans in times of hardship.
    • Developing the Moral Conscience: Instilling Islamic moral values such as truthfulness, honesty, kindness, mercy, and justice, and how they stem from faith and affect the happiness of the individual and society.
    • Attachment to the Quran: Encouraging children to recite the Quran and ponder its meanings, and how it is a book of guidance and light that touches the hearts and heals the chest.

The Role of Good Role Models in the Lives of Youth

Good role models are one of the strongest means of education and influence, especially in the youth stage when individuals tend to imitate those they admire.

  • Parental Role Models: Parents are the first and most important role models for their children. They should be a living example of faith, morals, and commitment, and show their children how a Muslim lives his daily life.
  • Role Models of Teachers and Preachers: Teachers and preachers have a significant impact on youth. They should be role models in their knowledge, work, and morals, and be able to inspire and guide the youth.
  • Role Models of Public Figures: It is important to highlight successful and influential Muslim figures in various fields (scholars, doctors, engineers, athletes, artists) who combine professional excellence with religious commitment. This corrects the negative stereotype about the religious.
  • Peer Role Models: Peers have a significant influence on each other. Encourage committed youth to be good role models for their friends and participate in positive activities that bring them together.

Continuity and Periodic Review

Islamic education is not a process that ends at a certain age, but rather a lifelong process. As challenges change, this necessitates periodic review of methods and plans.

  • Continuous Learning: Parents and educators themselves should be in a state of continuous learning and develop their knowledge and skills to face new challenges.
  • Review and Evaluation: Educational methods should be reviewed periodically and their effectiveness evaluated. What may be suitable for one age group may not be for another.
  • Flexibility in Dealing: We should be flexible in dealing with children and youth, and take into account their individual personalities and specific circumstances.
  • Supplication and Seeking Allah's Help: In all efforts made, we should not forget that guidance is in Allah's hands alone. Therefore, we should supplicate and seek Allah to guide our children and youth and steadfast them on the truth.

This intellectual battle is a battle of generations, requiring patience, perseverance, and faith that Allah does not let the reward of those who do good go to waste.

We ask Allah to make us among the guided and the guides, and to bless our efforts, and to protect our nation and youth from all evil and fitnah. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

The Importance of Building Trust in Religious Authority

In light of the abundance of doubts and the variety of information sources, it becomes extremely important to build trust in reliable religious authority to fortify the youth.

  • Introducing Pious Scholars: Youth should be introduced to pious scholars who are firmly grounded in knowledge, combining religious understanding with a realistic understanding, and who possess piety, righteousness, and wisdom.
  • Connecting Youth with Respected Religious Institutions: Encourage youth to engage with official and respected religious institutions (such as Al-Azhar, the Islamic councils, Islamic universities) that provide correct Islamic knowledge and the middle path.
  • Warning Against Unqualified Authorities: Educate youth about the danger of taking knowledge from the unqualified, or those who claim knowledge but are not, or those who spread extremist or deviant ideas in the name of religion.
  • Highlighting the Role of Scholars in Solving Contemporary Problems: Explain how Muslim scholars are capable of providing Islamic solutions to contemporary problems and challenges, and how Islam is a religion suitable for all times and places.
  • Encouraging the Pursuit of Religious Knowledge: Instill in the youth a love for seeking religious knowledge, and explain its virtue and importance in understanding religion and refuting doubts.

Dealing with Doubts Related to Modern Science

Many of the doubts raised by atheists are based on a mistaken or distorted understanding of the relationship between religion and science, or an attempt to use some scientific theories to refute religion.

  • Stating That Islam Does Not Contradict Sound Science: Emphasizing that Islam is a religion that encourages science and research, and that the Quran is filled with verses that call for reflection and contemplation of the universe. And that sound science cannot contradict sound religion.
  • Distinguishing Between Scientific Facts and Theories: Clarifying the difference between established scientific facts and scientific theories that are still under research or may change over time. And not confusing them in religious discussions.
  • Responding to Doubts Related to Evolution: Presenting scientific and religious responses to doubts related to the theory of evolution, and explaining that there are many ways to reconcile it with religious texts, or pointing out its flaws from a scientific perspective.
  • Highlighting the Scientific Miracles in the Quran and Sunnah: As mentioned earlier, some aspects of the scientific miracles in the Quran and Sunnah can be highlighted, not as the sole proof, but as an aspect that enhances certainty and confirms the divine source of revelation.
  • Introducing Contemporary Muslim Scholars: Highlighting the role of contemporary Muslim scholars who combine specialization in modern sciences with a deep understanding of religion, and who provide authentic Islamic perspectives in dealing with scientific issues.

The Importance of Supplication and Seeking Help from Allah

In the end, all human efforts, no matter how great, cannot succeed except with the facilitation and help of Allah. Supplication and seeking help from Allah are the foundation of every righteous deed.

  • Supplication for Children and Youth: Increase in supplication for children and youth for guidance and steadfastness on the truth, and may Allah protect them from trials and doubts.
  • Supplication for Muslims in General: Supplication for Muslims everywhere that Allah may make them steadfast on their religion, unite their ranks, and grant them victory over their enemies.
  • Reliance on Allah: After exerting efforts, one must rely on Allah the Most High, believe that guidance is in His hands alone, and that there is no power or strength except with Him.
  • Seeking Forgiveness and Repentance: Increase in seeking forgiveness and repentance, for sins may be a cause of being deprived of facilitation and blessing in efforts.

This intellectual battle is part of the ongoing battle between truth and falsehood until the Day of Judgment. We must be ready, armed with knowledge, faith, and wisdom, and perform our role with sincerity and devotion.

We ask Allah to accept from us and from you righteous deeds, and to make us among those who listen to the word and follow the best of it. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.
