What the Prophet (peace be upon him) did after the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah
Scholars of Concessions and the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah
For this reason, we say to the scholars of concessions: Your argument based on the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah may be valid, but under one condition. If the document that the Prophet peace be upon him concluded with the polytheists had been as follows:
In the name of peace, kindness, and national interest, henceforth: In order to prevent bloodshed and maintain unity, the two parties agree that the law to be applied in the Arabian Peninsula shall be a mixture of the Quran, the heritage and teachings of Abu Jahl and Abu Lahab, and whatever is deemed appropriate from the laws of the Persians and Romans, until a final vote is conducted on the shape of the law, including the Banu Lihyan, Ghatfan, Ral, Dhakwan, and all other worshippers of Al-Lat, Al-Uzza, and the third Manat. Until the date of this vote, Muhammad is permitted to move freely in the Arabian Peninsula to convince the tribes to give the Quran a larger share in legislation than Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, after which the law shall be binding on Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
We say to you, O scholars of concessions: Your argument may be valid if the document had been thus. Far be it from the Prophet peace be upon him.
What the Prophet peace be upon him Did Immediately After the Treaty
The last and eighth point, which is one of the most important responses to the scholars of concessions, we say to them: What did the Prophet peace be upon him do immediately after the treaty? And what do you do?
Immediately after the treaty, and within less than two years between the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah and the Conquest of Mecca, extraordinary events occurred, extraordinary events, my brothers, in terms of politics, military, and society.
Military and Economic Movements
After the Prophet peace be upon him returned from the treaty to Medina after twenty days, he set out to conquer Khaybar. The conquest was an economic blow to the Quraysh, as Khaybar were their economic allies. Then he conquered Wadi al-Qura and Tayma.
Then, after Khaybar, the Prophet sent his expeditions to subdue the Arabian Peninsula: the expedition of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq to the Banu Fazara, the expedition of Umar ibn al-Khattab to the Hawazin, the expedition of Ibn Rawaha to the people of Yasir ibn Rizam the Jew, the expedition of Bashir ibn Saad al-Ansari to the Banu Murra, an expedition to al-Harqa ibn Jahina, an expedition to al-Muluh, an expedition to Ghatfan Lihyan, an expedition to Khubb Shasham, an expedition to Adm in Najd, and others, others, others. Dozens of expeditions, dozens of expeditions.
Missionary and Social Impact
This treaty allowed him to move freely in the Arabian Peninsula. Muslims mingled with the disbelievers in these less than two years, making it easier for them to call them to Islam, recite the Quran to them, and openly debate with them in safety. Those who had hidden their Islam revealed it. Multitudes of people entered the religion of Allah. Thus, it became known that the upper hand in the Arabian Peninsula belonged to Islam. The emigrants from Abyssinia, led by Ja'far may Allah be pleased with him, arrived. Yemen embraced Islam. The siege and stranglehold on the Quraysh from the north, east, west, and south were complete. Khalid ibn al-Walid and Amr ibn al-As embraced Islam when the affair of Islam became apparent. All of this happened during the period of the treaty and truce.
Umrah of Compensation and Expanding the State's Territory
The following year, the Prophet peace be upon him went to perform the Umrah of Compensation in an atmosphere of Islamic dignity. The Quraysh went out to the mountains to look at the Muslims with sorrow, revealing their shoulders to show strength and toughness, pride and dignity, then they returned. When he returned, peace be upon him, he did not sit down but sent an expedition to the Banu Sulaym, another to the Hawazin, and another to Dhatu Atlal from Syria. Then he expanded the territory and the military, sending the army of Mu'tah to invade the Romans, for his message was universal. Then came the Battle of the Chains.
Global Missionary Movement
During the truce, in addition to the military movement, he sent his letters, messengers, and calls to Caesar of Rome, Khosrow of Persia, the Amir of Busra, al-Harith in the Ghouta of Damascus, al-Muqawqis in Egypt, al-Mundhir in Bahrain, Oman, and Huzafa, the king of Yamama. All the known world at that time.
Breach of the Treaty by the Quraysh and the Conquest of Mecca
Then, as soon as the Quraysh breached the treaty and aided their ally against the Prophet's peace be upon him allies from the Banu Khazraj, the Prophet did not ask the Quraysh to clarify their position or justify their actions, nor did he condemn or object and demand a conference to understand the Quraysh's point of view. He immediately mobilized 10,000 fighters for the greatest conquest, which increased the honor of the Prophet and his soldiers with Allah, the Conquest of Mecca.
And this number, 10,000, warrants a pause. At the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, the number of Muslim soldiers or pilgrims was only 1,500. As a result of these intense, extraordinary movements in less than two years, the Prophet peace be upon him had 10,000 men.
Hudaybiyyah: A Clear Victory
For this reason, my brothers, for all of the above, Allah named the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah a victory. To inform you, when you read: "Indeed, We have opened for you a clear opening," refer to the commentaries. The commentators say that this is the opening of the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah. Because the Prophet peace be upon him made the best use of this treaty, the best use, and did in less than two years what is extraordinary militarily, socially, and missionarily.
Challenge to the Scholars of Concessions
We then ask the scholars of concessions and their masters who defend them: What victory have you achieved with your concessions compared to what we have mentioned about the Prophet peace be upon him? What victory do you speak of? How many nightclubs have been opened? How many liquor stores have been opened? To the point of demanding that centers for sexual deviants be opened in Muslim countries! Is this a victory? Is this a victory like the victory of the Prophet peace be upon him? Far be it from him!
And they say: War is a disaster, you want war numbers and weapons and leaders and soldiers and support from the great powers, that is war. Do you count war as stones and children?
We say to them: And what have you prepared for war in terms of time? And what have you prepared for war in terms of time? Melodies and drums and singers, prisons that devour the nation in rivers of groups and individuals, borders that guard the occupier and ignite hatred among us. What have you prepared for war in terms of time? Do you not call it art, troops of the idle who have strayed from us, weapons without permission to use them, repeated statements without meaning, as if our sixty years are not enough to be patient for another century. What have you prepared for war in terms of time? What have you prepared for war in terms of time, O those who argue with the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah and the biography of the Prophet peace be upon him.
Final Advice
Finally, so as not to prolong this for you, we say one final sentence: We say to the scholars of concessions who argue with the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah: It is a flaw, it is forbidden, it is reprehensible, it is not permissible, it is not valid, it is not appropriate, it is not bearable, it is not acceptable that you seek excuses for your concessions in the biography of the master of the sons of Adam, the leader of the pure-hearted, the symbol of nobility, courage, and steadfastness, our master and your master, the Messenger of Allah Muhammad ibn Abdullah peace be upon him. There is no murky water in the biography for you to fish in, for the biography of the Prophet peace be upon him is all purity, clarity, loyalty, and faithfulness.
If you must look, if you are searching and researching for a precedent for what you do, then you have in Ibn Abi and in Ibn al-Ulaqmi a precedent. Look into their biographies and you will find in them what you desire and what pleases you. But Muhammad peace be upon him and his pure biography, keep them away from your pens and your arguments.
