Blood Sugar Monitoring for Diabetic Patients During Ramadan
Diabetic patients need to intensify their blood sugar monitoring, especially at the beginning of Ramadan, to ensure that their treatment and medication doses are appropriate after adjusting their eating schedule due to fasting.
Recommended Times for Blood Sugar Measurement
The most important times for patients to measure their blood sugar are:
- Morning: About two hours after consuming the Suhoor meal.
- Before Iftar: Directly before.
- After Iftar: Two hours after.
- Additional Times: It is also advisable to measure during midday and before Suhoor.
- As Needed: At any time the patient feels symptoms of high or low blood sugar, or when experiencing a general decline in their health.
Target Numbers and Readings
The required numbers for all these measurements are the same as those recommended before Ramadan, as follows:
- The reading should not fall below 70 milligrams/deciliter.
- The reading should not exceed 140 milligrams/deciliter (in most cases).
- According to the recommendations of some medical organizations, it is important that blood sugar does not exceed 180 milligrams/deciliter two hours after eating.
These are the most important times and standards for measuring blood sugar to ensure the patient's safety during the month of Ramadan.
