One of the recurring mistakes in prayer that many overlook is the exposure of the private parts during prostration, particularly from the back. For men, the area of private parts from the back begins from just below the navel down to the knees.
If the private parts are exposed and the worshipper is aware of it but does not cover them, the prayer is invalidated. Covering the private parts is a condition for the validity of prayer. If the worshipper is unaware, the prayer is also invalidated if the exposure is prolonged or if the more private area is revealed, as stated in detailed fatwas.
Some people do not notice the problem until they are in rukū’ (bowing) or sujūd (prostration), repeatedly pulling their garment or adjusting their pants during prayer. This excessive movement can lead to another issue: invalidation of the prayer due to excessive movement.
The solution is simple: check your clothing before prayer. You may need a longer shirt or more suitable pants. It is part of a Muslim’s general etiquette to ensure that they are not exposed when bending in front of others for any reason—let alone when standing before Allah the Almighty.
Therefore, choose appropriate clothing that does not require adjustment in every rak’ah. Prayer is a station of reverence, and part of revering prayer is to enter it covered, at ease, with a present heart, not preoccupied with your clothing or exposed before others.
