O reforming father, O mother concerned for her daughters...I see the worry and sadness in you from your sons' and daughters' behavior toward you!
You prevent your young son from spending all his time on phones and electronic games..
You prevent your daughter from keeping up with her friends...
So you collide with your children who see you as "annoying" preventing their desires...so he misbehaves toward you, you react and scold him...perhaps hit him...then regret, and feel the contradiction: "What would people say about me if they saw me treating my son like this? While they think I'm an excellent parent"?!
While other fathers and mothers have "made it easy on themselves" by giving their children whatever they want, leaving them "sedated" on devices between games, movies, and ads...thus buying their time from their children, avoiding clashes with them, and there they are writing on social media about virtuous morals and taking responsibility, taking pictures with their children on trips and restaurants in harmony and accord "apparently"!
O father! O mother! Don't be sad, don't let grief combine from your child's poor behavior toward you while you're trying to protect them, with grief from your poor view of yourself and doubting your righteousness and accusing yourself of hypocrisy!
Rather, you are righteous, God willing, you wanted to protect your children in this difficult time, and you didn't deceive them or abandon your trust over them. So take pride in that and raise your heads with it...and be careful to occupy them with what benefits and dedicate your time to that, and not let anger at their reactions control you...and know that Allah does not waste the reward of those who do good.
Don't let Satan make you despair and sit back from righteous work, but be active in good so that perhaps Allah will raise your parents' ranks by it and remove some of their sins through it, and what better righteousness than that?!
May Allah bring joy to our eyes through our children and help us and them to bear our responsibilities.
