A few days ago marked the anniversary of a major massacre of our Kurdish brothers in Iraq, in what was known at the time as the Anfal campaign! That was in 1988. I do not like to stir up painful memories, but a dear friend from our Kurdish brothers in Iraq asked me to speak on the subject, so out of respect for him and his brothers, I say: The believers are brothers; their blood is equal, their war is one, and their peace is one. There is no difference between them, and no one has preference over another except by piety. Our Prophet, peace be upon him, said: (There is no superiority for an Arab over a non-Arab, nor for a non-Arab over an Arab, nor for a white person over a black person, nor for a black person over a white person, except by piety. People are from Adam, and Adam is from dust). Our Kurdish brothers have been subjected to severe injustice, just as Muslim peoples have been, and as they will continue to be as long as the authority of Sharia is absent. Naming that oppressive campaign the "Anfal" campaign is an aggression upon an aggression, for the religion of Allah is innocent of it. It is not permissible for a Muslim to justify general injustice on the grounds that there were Kurds who helped this side or that. The aggression that occurred was not intended to establish truth, nor to make people worship their Lord, (and no bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another). May Allah have mercy on those of our Kurdish brothers who passed away, mend the hearts of their families, and bless the Muslims with the justice and mercy of Islam.
