Dear brothers and sisters, we interact with a Magnificent and Most Loving Lord who tests you. If you prove that you seek His pleasure—may He be exalted—more than the approval of people, and sacrifice for His noble sake, then look afterward at the favors bestowed by this Great Lord.
We mentioned the story of our brother who abandoned music purely for the sake of God. Then came the trial when he was with his friends in the car. They asked him to play music, but he refused. They mocked him and reminded him of his past, yet he remained steadfast.
Our brother says: “After that situation, our Lord honored me in a remarkable way. After a very short time, I found myself abandoning sins without planning to, and I began performing acts of obedience spontaneously. For example, I stopped speaking vulgar words, I gained the ability to lower my gaze, and I developed a love for listening to and reciting the Quran.”
Notice how, when he was tested—choosing between God’s pleasure or people’s approval—and he stood firm, Allah opened other doors for him that he had not anticipated. He began abandoning sins naturally and turning to acts of worship spontaneously.
Here, we understand the meaning of Allah’s words, may He be exalted: “And Allah increases in guidance those who are guided.” (Quran 19:76)
Guidance brings more guidance. Here, we also understand the meaning of the great Hadith Qudsi in which the Most Merciful says: “If My servant comes near Me by a handspan, I come near him by an arm’s length. If he comes near Me by an arm’s length, I come near him by a fathom. And if he comes to Me walking, I come to him running.” (Sahih al-Bukhari)
Dear community, we interact with a Most Loving and Generous Lord. Glory be to Allah.
