Peace be upon you and the mercy of God, dear brothers and sisters. We remind you to fast on the day of Ashura, which coincides with tomorrow, Tuesday. Our Prophet, peace be upon him, informed us that it expiates the sins of the previous year, and this is a great favor from God.
We also mention that this expiation is specific to minor sins, as per the most accepted opinion among scholars. As for major sins, sincere repentance is required for their forgiveness.
Indeed, dear brothers and sisters, we need to draw closer to God, the Most High, by honoring His rites and fasting on this great day. May God, the Most High, accept us for the sake of supporting His religion and aiding the oppressed, a support that pleases Him. May He guide us to actions that please Him in this difficult time and at this critical juncture in the life of the Ummah. May He have mercy on us on the Day we are presented before Him; a day when neither wealth nor children will be of benefit, except for those who come to God with a pure heart.
Do not neglect fasting on this day, nor should you underestimate its importance. Do not let habits, smoking, occasions, celebrations, or anything else prevent you from it. This is a great season that we must honor for the sake of God, the Most High.
God saved Moses, peace be upon him, on this day. We ask God, the Most High, to save our oppressed brothers and sisters, to save the Ummah of Muhammad, peace be upon him, and to have mercy on it with a comprehensive and near mercy.
Peace be upon you.
