Based on what we have mentioned, some may think that a person who curses the Lord and religion—God forbid—has reached a stage of despair where repentance becomes difficult, or that their problem in revering Allah the Exalted is so deep that it is insurmountable. The reality is that this is indeed a massive problem, but it is by no means hopeless.
We sit in this gathering with great optimism; if Allah accepts this effort from us and places it in the scale of our good deeds and those of the participating brothers, it will be a reason for many to return to the fold of Islam. I have a personal experience in this matter that has given me a tremendous boost of hope.
In 2015, I posted a call on my social media pages saying: "O people, this crime happening in our country (cursing religion) is such that the heavens almost split apart from it," and I declared my full readiness to volunteer and tour schools to speak specifically on this topic.
A young man named "Al-Baraa" contacted me and asked me to give a lecture in one of the schools about revering Allah the Almighty. I went with Allah’s grace, and the students gathered in a large hall. I began speaking to them about what Allah had opened for me. Despite some troublemakers at the beginning, I was able to, thanks to my experience in dealing with youth, contain the situation until silence and full focus prevailed, as if birds were perched on their heads.
I remember the expression of one student who stood up and asked with apparent fear: "Doctor, if a person does this and wants to repent, what should they do?" The fear of Allah had already begun to seep into his heart.
The experience was repeated in a second school, but this time I brought a projector with me. I showed them images of the vast universe and galaxies, saying: "Look, these galaxies are a tiny part of the two worlds; imagine someone cursing the Lord of the worlds!"
Later, the young man "Al-Baraa" and his friend visited me at home and asked: "Dr. Iyad, do you know what the rate of disbelief (cursing religion) was in these two schools before the lectures?" I said, "I don’t know." He replied, "It reached 50%." Then he asked, "And what do you think it became after the two lectures?"
I restrained my excessive optimism and said it might have dropped to 30% or 10%, but he surprised me by saying: "It reached 0%!" Not only did the students stop cursing, but they also took a positive stance, preventing others from falling into this sin. I was stunned by the figure, so he sent me the "statistical model" they had prepared, and I confirmed the authenticity of this great transformation.
This experience taught me a profound lesson: no matter how distant people may seem from Allah, one sincere session can tip the scales for them. How beautiful it is when Allah the Exalted uses you to be the reason for saving people—through a 50-minute session—from eternity in the Fire to eternity in Paradise, if Allah decrees good for them.
We ask Allah to make us a means of guidance, for by Allah, nothing in this world is more beautiful than this work.
