Quiz Clarification for Everything - Episode 13 Parts 15 and 16
Part 15 and 16
Part 15 and 16
In the name of Allah, all praise is due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. Brothers and sisters, peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings, and welcome to the thirteenth session of the competition "Tabyan for Everything."
Before starting today's questions, we announce the names of the top contenders in the competition so far:
Some people, if the means of performing an act of worship are not available to them, become content and do not hope for their availability. Instead, they say to themselves, "I have done what I was supposed to do." However, the Quran guides us not to miss the opportunity for inner works but to hope for the facilitation of their means that we were unable to achieve. Mention a verse that conveys this meaning.
Answer: Allah says: "And if you turn away from them seeking mercy from your Lord which you hope for, then speak to them a gentle word" [Al-Isra: 28].
Explanatory Note: Ibn Ashur, may God have mercy on him, says: "Within this condition, there is a lesson for the believer if he lacks what enables him to do good, that he should hope from Allah the facilitation of its means, and that greed should not burden him with the joy of lacking provision for the ease of spending, so that he does not lack spending now except while hoping that Allah will make it easy for him in the future, striving for His virtue." This reminds us of Allah's saying: "They turn away, their eyes overflowing with tears, grieving that they find nothing to spend."
And also the hadith of the Prophet peace be upon him: "Whoever asks Allah for martyrdom sincerely from his heart, Allah will grant him the abodes of the martyrs even if he dies on his bed" (Narrated by Muslim). And the hadith of the four people whom the Prophet peace be upon him mentioned, including a man who said: "If I had money, I would do the work of so-and-so (the charitable person), for that is his intention, and both are equal in reward."
There is a verse that, if misunderstood, leads to the assumption that Allah commands something contrary to His will (such as assuming that Allah commands immorality). What is this verse?
Answer: Allah says: "And when We intend to destroy a town, We send Our commandment to those of them who are oppressing, and they commit immorality therein, so the word comes into effect upon them, and We destroy it with complete destruction" [Al-Isra: 16].
Explanatory Note: Sheikh Muhammad Amin Al-Shinqiti explains that there are three interpretations of this verse, the most apparent being that "We command" refers to the legal command (as opposed to prohibition), and the object is omitted because it is obvious, meaning: We commanded them with obedience and goodness, but they disobeyed and committed immorality. This is like saying, "I commanded him, but he disobeyed me," meaning I commanded him with obedience, but he disobeyed. Allah does not command immorality, glorified be He.
The Prophet peace be upon him said: "You will not leave anything for the sake of Allah the Almighty except that Allah will replace it with something better for you." Mention a noble verse that contains a similar recompense for a prophet among the prophets.
Answer: Allah says regarding Ibrahim, peace be upon him: "And when he had left them and what they worshipped besides Allah, We gave him Isaac and Jacob, and each We made a prophet" [Maryam: 49].
Explanatory Note: Imam As-Sa'di says: "When leaving one's homeland and family is one of the hardest things for the soul, and when one leaves something for the sake of Allah, Allah compensates him with something better, Allah gave him Isaac and Jacob and made them prophets." Ibn Al-Qayyim adds that the recompense can be spiritual, which is the highest, such as closeness to Allah and tranquility of the heart.
The people of falsehood follow their desires, so the believer should not weaken his faith in his religion when he sees their numbers and steadfastness, nor should he stake his fate on theirs, lest he perish with them. Mention a verse that conveys this meaning.
Answer: Allah says: "So let not their speech grieve you. We know what they conceal and what they declare. Have We not made for you the earth a place of settlement?" [Ta-Ha: 16].
Meaning, do not let those who do not believe in the Hour and follow their desires turn you away from believing in it and preparing for it, for if you follow them, you will perish and fall (be ruined) as they will.
A verse is used by some to invalidate the punishment for apostasy, claiming that Islam gives absolute freedom without consequences, while its conclusion is a terrifying deterrent, and it is a Meccan verse. What is it?
Answer: Allah says: "And say, 'The truth is from your Lord, so whoever wills - let him believe, and whoever wills - let him disbelieve.' Indeed, We have prepared for the wrongdoers a fire whose smoke will engulf them..." [Al-Kahf: 29].
Explanatory Note: The verse is not about equal choice but about threat, as evidenced by the severe warning at its end. It was also revealed in Mecca where the Muslims did not have a state to enforce punishments, describing the reality of Quraysh's arrogance and clarifying their fate with Allah.
There is a verse that atheists use as a doubt regarding astronomy, but a past action within it refutes their claims. What is this action?
Answer: The action is: "And he found it".
Explanatory Note: Allah says in the story of Dhul-Qarnayn: "Until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it setting in a spring of murky water" [Al-Kahf: 86]. Atheists claim that the Quran states a false scientific fact that the sun sets in a pool of water, but the Quranic expression is very precise; it says "he found it" and did not say "it sets." Ibn Kathir, may God have mercy on him, says: "Meaning, he saw the sun in his view setting in the ocean, and this is the case for everyone who reaches its shore, seeing it as if it sets therein, while it does not leave the fourth heaven in which it is fixed." The action "he found it" describes the viewer's perception and visual impression at the horizon, not the astronomical truth of the sun's position.
A person may disobey Allah, but one of the beauties of Islam is that repentance erases sin. There are people who sinned, but when their repentance was sincere, Allah described their action in the passive voice rather than the active voice, considering their feelings so that their action would not be a disgrace recorded in the Quran. What is this action?
Answer: The action is: "They were left behind" (خُلِّفُوا).
Explanatory Note: Allah the Almighty says: "And [He also forgave] the three who were left behind (خُلِّفُوا)" [At-Tawbah: 118]. Linguistically, it was expected to say "they stayed behind" (تخلفوا) because they were the ones who stayed behind from the expedition. However, Allah used the passive voice "خُلِّفُوا". Imam As-Sa'di, may Allah have mercy on him, said in a beautiful explanation: "One of Allah's kindness to the three is that He described them with a term that is not a disgrace to them, saying 'they were left behind' (خُلِّفُوا), indicating that the believers left them behind, or they were left behind by those who were accepted or rejected in their excuse. He did not say 'they stayed behind' (تخلفوا) because staying behind may imply reluctance to do good and disinterest in it, and they were not like that." This is part of Allah's perfect acceptance of their repentance, where the Prophet ﷺ welcomed them with good news and joy, and said to Ka'b bin Malik: "Rejoice in the good news of a day that has passed since your mother gave birth to you."
With this, we have concluded today's competition and the questions of the fifteenth and sixteenth parts. May Allah reward you for your follow-up and interaction, and we ask Allah to benefit us with what we have learned.
Peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
