Peace be upon you and mercy of Allah and His blessings. We welcome you to the third episode of the competition "Tabyan for Everything." We apologize for the delay due to some technical issues that we are trying to overcome one by one.
We have ten questions today inspired by the Quranic parts, and the mechanism depends on the speed of answering while adhering to the number of words required in the "Makhal al-Shahad." With the name of Allah and prayers and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah, we begin with our questions for today.
Question: Imagine yourself about to fall into a valley, then someone comes to save you but finds only two short ropes, so he ties them together, and you fear that the knot might be loose. Mention a verse that reminds you of this image and reassures the believer.
Answer (Makhal al-Shahad): "{So hold firmly to the rope which Allah extends [to you], and do not become divided therein}."
The Subtle Reflection: Al-Zamakhshari in his book "Al-Kashaf" pointed to this aesthetic meaning, saying: "He likened the state of the one who relies [on Allah] to the state of one who wants to descend from a high place, so he took precautions for himself by holding onto the firmest handhold of a strong, secure rope whose breaking is unlikely." The believer who disbelieves in false gods and believes in Allah is as if he has held onto a rope that will never slip.
Question: If a person denies the rights of Allah and His servants, then Allah will harden the hearts of people against him. Mention a verse that indicates this meaning (or part of it).
Answer (Makhal al-Shahad): "{And there will be no helpers for the wrongdoers}."
The Subtle Reflection: Ibn Ashur, may Allah have mercy on him, mentioned a subtle point in His saying, the Most High: "{And whatever you spend of expenditure or promise of a pledge - indeed, Allah is Knowing of it. And there will be no helpers for the wrongdoers}." The negation of helpers here is a metaphor for the negation of victory and aid in the Hereafter and in this world as well; for when they were stingy in aiding the poor with their wealth, Allah deprived them of aid in times of distress, hardened the hearts of the servants against them, and cast hatred upon them.
Question: Those whom Allah has blessed with knowledge that people need should not withhold it from them, for this is part of being grateful for the blessing. Mention a verse that indicates this meaning.
Answer (Makhal al-Shahad): "{And let not a scribe refuse to write as Allah has taught him}."
The Subtle Reflection: This verse is from "The Verse of the Debt," and it is a directive to those who are skilled in writing (which is a science and a blessing) not to refuse to help people in documenting their rights, acknowledging the favor of Allah upon them who taught them what they did not know.
Question: The righteous do not envy people but rejoice in Allah's blessing upon others, even if the usual causes for it are not present, and this makes them long for Allah's bounty. Mention a verse that indicates this meaning.
Answer (Makhal al-Shahad): "{Thereupon Zakariya called upon his Lord}."
The Subtle Reflection: When Zakariya, peace be upon him, saw the provision with Maryam at a time not usual for him, and she said to him: "{It is from Allah. Indeed, Allah provides for whom He wills without account}," he longed for the mercy of Allah despite the old age of his wife and her barrenness, so he called upon his Lord, and Allah responded to him and gave him glad tidings of Yahya.
Question: Three words from a verse that addresses those who see someone who moves a lot during prayer, so that they may understand that they are thereby contradicting the command of Allah.
Answer: "{And stand in prayer to Allah, devoutly obedient}."
The Subtle Reflection: The humility here means steadfastness, humility, and stillness. Freezing and not moving during prayer to glorify Allah is a requirement of the humility commanded.
Question: Some people object to authentic hadiths with rational objections, such as saying: "It is not reasonable that Allah should burden the servants with a difficult task." Mention four words from a verse that clarifies that it is not unreasonable for Allah to burden people with difficulty, but He has left that out of mercy.
Answer: "{And had Allah willed, He would have imposed it upon you}."
The Subtle Reflection: In the context of the verses about orphans, the Companions were very hesitant to associate with them for fear of falling into consuming their wealth, so Allah clarified that the matter is broad, and that if He had willed, He would have burdened them with hardship and distress, but He is merciful to His servants.
Question: A verse that teaches us that the believer, no matter how much he strives, still hopes for the mercy of Allah and does not cut himself off as one of its people (four words).
Answer: "{Those are the ones who hope for the mercy of Allah}."
The Subtle Reflection: Allah, the Most High, said: "{Indeed, those who have believed and those who emigrated and fought in the cause of Allah - those are the ones who hope for the mercy of Allah}." Notice that they have sacrificed everything, and yet Allah described them as "hoping," and this is part of the perfect etiquette with Allah. As-Sadi said: "In it is an indication that even if the servant has done what he has done of deeds, it is not appropriate for him to rely upon them."
Question: Mention part of a verse in which there is an action from the actions that Allah will shade you with in His shade on a day when there is no shade except His shade (from part of the day).
Answer: "{And if you give it secretly and to the poor, it is better for you}."
The Subtle Reflection: This agrees with the hadith of the seven whom Allah will shade, among whom is: "A man who gives charity and conceals it so that his left hand does not know what his right hand spends."
Question: Allah, the Most High, does not attribute evil to Himself, neither in speech nor in action, and evil is only in the actions, not in the actions of Allah. Mention two words from a verse that carries this meaning.
Answer: "{In Your Hand is the good}."
The Subtle Reflection: In Surah Al-Imran, He said, the Most High: "{In Your Hand is the good; indeed, You are over all things competent}." He did not say "in Your Hand is good and evil" to exempt Him, glorified be He, as in the hadith: "And evil is not to You." All His actions, glorified be He, are good and wisdom.
Question: Believers realize that patience does not come from the depths of the soul but descends from Allah, the Most High. Mention four words that indicate this meaning.
Answer: "{Our Lord, pour upon us patience}."
The Subtle Reflection: When Talut and his soldiers faced Jalut, they did not rely on their strength but asked Allah to "pour" patience upon them as one pours from a bucket, and this is an acknowledgment that steadfastness is from Allah alone.
We ask Allah, the Most High, that we may have benefited from what we have discussed today, and that He may make our gathering surrounded by angels. We apologize again for any technical glitches, and we bid you farewell in the best of conditions, by the permission of Allah. May Allah reward you well, and peace be upon you and mercy of Allah and His blessings.
