Peace be upon you, brothers and sisters, in our competition "Tbyana for Everything." Today is the eighth day of Ramadan, and we have eight questions for the eighth day.
Before we start with the questions, let us mention the names of the leaders so far during the past seven days:
May God bless them all and increase their love and attachment to the Quran.
Question: Among the blessings of God upon man is sound nature, for it makes its owner aware of the ugliness of evil even if he does not know the ruling of the Shariah about it. Mention five words from a verse that convey this meaning.
Explanation: The context of the words comes in Surah Al-An'am: {And when they commit an immorality, they say, "We found our fathers doing it, and Allah has commanded us to do it." Say, "Indeed, Allah does not command immorality. Do you say about Allah that which you do not know?"}. Ibn Ashur, may God have mercy on him, said: "And immorality prevails in acts of extreme ugliness, which are those that sound nature abhors or those that result in harm and corruption such that people of sound reason abhor them... For an act to be immoral is sufficient to indicate that Allah does not command it; because Allah has the highest perfection."
Question: False principles are ugly in themselves, so they need glitter and adornment to tempt people with them. Mention a word from the eighth part that indicates this meaning.
Explanation: He, may God exalt him and grant him peace, said: {And thus We have made for every prophet an enemy - devils of mankind and jinn, inspiring to one another adornments of speech to deceive. And if your Lord had willed, they would not have done it, so leave them and what they invent. And let the hearts of those who disbelieve upon the mention of Allah be turned away toward desire}. Adornment is the beautification and improvement to hide the harm in the speech, as children are lured with colorful toys. False principles need adornment to pass among people, whereas the truth is attractive in itself. As Sayyid Qutb, may God have mercy on him, said: "Allah wanted this call to appear free from the causes of worldly glitter so that its attraction would be from itself."
Question: People complain about the injustice of those in control over them, but they should remember that the rise of these unjust people may be among the retributive punishments for their having committed forms of injustice. Mention a verse that indicates this meaning.
Explanation: Al-Qurtubi, may God have mercy on him, said: "This is a warning to the wrongdoer that if he does not refrain from his wrongdoing, Allah will appoint another wrongdoer over him." Injustice includes self-injustice, injustice to the people, injustice of the trader, and even neglecting the upbringing of children. Allah does not appoint unjust rulers over a nation unless the people themselves have committed injustice.
Question: Some people think that the warnings in the Quran are only for the disbelievers who did not believe in Islam from the beginning. Mention five words from today's part that refute this assumption.
Explanation: He, may God exalt him and grant him peace, said: {On the Day some of the signs of your Lord will come, no soul will benefit from its faith as long as it did not believe before or has earned in his faith [some] good}. The verse speaks about people who believed but did not do good deeds, so their repentance will not benefit them when the great signs of Allah come. (Advice: Read Surah Al-An'am from His saying, may God exalt him and grant him peace: {Indeed, Allah is the Splitter of the grain and the date seed}, and ponder the beauty of the Quranic expression).
Question: Three words from a noble verse indicate that the blessings the disbelievers enjoy in this world will be accounted for and punished in the Hereafter because they disbelieved in the Bestower, glorified and exalted be He. What are these three words?
Explanation: He, may God exalt him and grant him peace, said: {Say, "Who has forbidden the adornment of Allah which He has produced for His servants and the good things of provision?" Say, "They are for the believers in the worldly life exclusive on the Day of Resurrection}. In this world, the believer and the disbeliever share in the blessings, but in the Hereafter, they are "exclusive" to the believers only; that is, pure from grief and from the consequences and punishments. As for the disbeliever, he will be asked about these blessings and punished for them because he enjoyed them while disbelieving in the Bestower.
Question: We mentioned two verses in the previous parts that indicate that the disbeliever is like the dead. Mention a verse from today's part that carries this meaning.
Explanation: Allah, the Exalted, gives an example of the disbeliever and those who were in misguidance but then were guided, like the dead who were brought to life: {Or [the one] who was dead and We gave him life and made for him light by which to walk among the people, like [the one] whose example is that of one in darkness, from which he will not exit. Thus was made attractive to the disbelievers what they were doing}.
Question: A word in today's part means furniture and what appears of clothes. What is it?
Explanation: He, may God exalt him and grant him peace, said in Surah Al-A'raf: {O children of Adam, We have bestowed upon you clothing to cover your private parts and as adornment. But the clothing of righteousness - that is best}. Ibn Jarir said: "Al-Rishan in the speech of the Arabs is the furniture and what appears of clothes." Perhaps the origin of people's saying today that the rich is "mrish" is derived from this linguistic meaning, and Allah knows best.
Question: The word "then" (ثم) is a conjunction that appears in the Quran with the meaning of temporal order, as well as sequential or informative order. Provide an example from Juz' Amma where "then" means sequential order.
Explanation: Allah says in Surah Al-An'am after mentioning the Ten Commandments: "Then We gave Moses the Scripture, complete for the one who did good." (Quran 6:154)
Al-Sa'di, may Allah have mercy on him, said: "Then in this context does not mean temporal order, for the time of Moses, peace be upon him, is earlier than the recitation of this book by the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. Rather, it means sequential order."
So Allah informed that He gave Moses the Torah, which is the complete book, as a perfection of His favor and completeness of His goodness. Ibn Ashur responded to the difficulty of the order of this verse by saying that the mention of Moses, peace be upon him, and his book was an introduction to the mention of the Quran, lest the polytheists say: "Only two groups before us were given the Book, and indeed we concerning their worship were unaware. Or you say, 'If only the Book was sent down upon us, we would have been better guided than them.' But there has come to you a clear evidence from your Lord and guidance and mercy." (Quran 6:156-157)
