Gratitude and Appreciation for the Hussein Cancer Center Team

Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah. This is a message of gratitude and appreciation for the team at the Hussein Cancer Center in Jordan. Why did I feel the need to record this?

The Importance of Gratitude and Spreading a Culture of Appreciation

Firstly: Because those who do not thank people do not thank Allah. Our Prophet, the most truthful of the faithful, peace be upon him, taught us loyalty, and he praised his wife Khadijah, his companion Abu Bakr, the Ansar, and others.

I record this message because, my brothers, we need to promote a culture of thanking people for their kindness, not just focusing on negative examples. I also record it because honoring my late mother includes thanking and honoring those who were kind to her.

I also record this message because the team at the Hussein Cancer Center is truly a model to be emulated. My brothers and I say: This situation, the situation of the Hussein Cancer Center, should be studied to understand what brought them to this level of excellence and refinement in their dealings.

Additionally, my brothers, we need this message because some people value words of appreciation more than their salary. The brothers at the Hussein Cancer Center, because they are sensitive and noble in character, I believe they are of the type who value kind words as much as material gain. Just as they brought joy to our hearts and eased our burdens, I am eager to bring joy to their hearts as well.

Living with Dignity Until the End

I record this message because, my brothers, it is truly a great blessing for your loved one to live with dignity during their illness until they pass away with dignity. I appreciate, respect, and thank everyone who helped my daughter and then my mother, may Allah have mercy on them, to live their final days with the least amount of suffering.

By the way, this should be considered in the success rate of a hospital. Usually, hospitals may focus on the percentage of cases of leukemia, lymphoma, and so on that were cured, or for example, the "life span" (length of life) after receiving a certain treatment was longer compared to those who did not receive the treatment.

In truth, one of the most important indicators of a hospital's success is that it treats the human being with dignity, makes them feel respected, and eases their suffering until they pass away. This is indeed one of the models of success.

Observations and Clarifications

I would like to note the following:

Firstly: My brothers, no one asked me to give this message or to praise them. I record this message of my own accord. Our brothers at the Hussein Cancer Center did not ask for this message, neither directly nor indirectly.

A second observation: Some may think that I am given special treatment, meaning that I am known and so on. However, even my friends, most of my friends who have dealt with the center, have the same observation about the refined treatment and noble ethics.

I was also very impressed by the words of one of the doctors at the center. I was hesitant to contact him frequently and feared that I might burden him, so I said: "By Allah, Doctor, I am afraid I am burdening you, and I apologize." He said to me: "Doctor Iyad, it is true that I respect you for what you offer, but to inform you, what I do with you I do with all my patients and even more, so never hesitate to ask at any time." May Allah reward him with goodness.

Also, my brothers, another observation: I hesitate to talk about this medical care at a time when our brothers in Gaza are experiencing what they are going through, not receiving medical care or kind treatment because they do not even reach the medical teams. Of course, there are medical teams that are fulfilling their duty in the best way possible in the remaining hospitals, in the remaining medical points or field hospitals, meaning they are doing all they can. However, many of our brothers do not even reach them, nor do the ambulances that have even become targets. May Allah alleviate the suffering of our people and ease their burdens.

Memories with the Hussein Cancer Center

In truth, my brothers, my memories with the center, with the Hussein Cancer Center, are many. With my daughter, dozens of visits and spending many nights as an accompaniment, then with my mother, also dozens of visits.

My sister, may Allah preserve her and reward her with goodness, insisted on being the one who stayed with my mother and insisted that she was almost the only one in every night. However, with that, I made many visits, dozens of visits with my mother to radiation and chemotherapy sessions and others. In each of them, there are memories of good treatment and noble morals.

I collected these incidents in my memory and said: One day I must thank them all. Of course, I am sure in advance that I will forget some of them, and I apologize to them in advance. Of course, it is not possible, I will surely forget some who were kind to us. May Allah reward them for us with goodness, and it is enough that Allah knows them, it is enough that Allah knows them.

Special Thanks to Individuals

I would like to mention some names out of gratitude, and once again to spread the noble examples to follow:

  • Starting with the hospital security officer Majed Al-Fahoum Abu Alaa, who, when we would park the car, would tell my sister: "You're done, sister. You've helped mom get out, and I'll bring the wheelchair" with a kind smile. May God bless him and reward him with goodness. When I asked him his name, I was told: "Yes, this is Abu Majed, Abu Alaa is well-known, kind to everyone and good to everyone." May he be rewarded with goodness.

  • I recall the incident with my brothers as well, at the beginning of my mother's illness when she refused to have the needle inserted. May God help her, mercy of God be upon her, the journey was tiring and the needles were painful, and so on. It was necessary to insert the needle, but she refused and made the nurses helpless until a kind nurse was brought in. May God bless him and reward him with goodness on our behalf. He sat with her for about an hour and a half, sat in front of her: "My dear, by God, it's necessary, don't worry, okay, why don't you want to?" And he discussed with her for about half an hour until she agreed to have the needle inserted. I will never forget the name of this kind, noble nurse, Omar Al-Moumni. May God reward you on our behalf, Omar Al-Moumni.

  • Among those we remember is Dr. Zaid Al-Kilani, who was with us at the beginning of the treatment journey. Dr. Zaid Al-Kilani, may God bless him for his kind and good treatment, and he was the one who performed the cystoscopy and was also a supporter for us, meaning he eased our burden considerably.

  • Among those I remember is the anesthesiologist Dr. Marwan Abaid, who, when we had to make a difficult decision, whether to undergo a dangerous surgery or not, gave us no less than an hour and a half explaining to us in great detail and showing us on the computer how he calculates the risk rates and trying to help us make a balance: should we do the surgery or not? If we made the decision that I think was correct, may God reward you, Dr. Marwan.

  • Moving on to the radiation therapy technician Dhikra Al-Asmadi, who my mother, may God have mercy on her, needed 28 radiation therapy sessions. Of course, it was a burden on my mother, and she was always patient, praise be to God, never complained about her fate and capacity, but sometimes she would show discomfort from the sessions that she was not convinced of. Sister Dhikra would understand her, ease her burden, and be kind to her, and she won the affection of my mother, may God have mercy on her.

  • Moving on to the radiologist Dr. Mithqal Qandil, may God reward him on our behalf, who helped in reading the X-ray images with attention.

  • Moving on to all the nurses, all the nurses indeed without exception had a respectable and respectful attitude, from the nurses of the eighth to the tenth floor, the emergency nurses, may God reward them on our behalf, to the cleaning workers who also had a respectable attitude and were keen on the cleanliness of the rooms and many others.

  • However, I would like to present special thanks to Dr. Bahaa Sharaf, who was my mother's doctor in the last months. He indeed needs and deserves special thanks from us because he was kind in his treatment of my mother, and one day she told him: "You are my new son." And he said to her: "I am proud and honored by this testimony." And he eased her burden considerably and also eased our burden considerably, may God reward him with the best reward.

  • And I thank Dr. Assem Mansour, the director of the center, and I think that good management has a role in this good treatment. And I thank everyone who was a reason for this excellence in treatment. And I still remember how the word "Mom, Mom" was on the lips of many of them, treating her as if she were their own mother.

The Excellence of the Hussein Cancer Center Staff

And glory be to God, brothers, it is beautiful when scientific and professional competence is combined with noble morals and a religious motivation in what we consider. This is what I felt in many of the brothers and sisters.

And what distinguishes the staff at the Hussein Center is that they are always working, you don't see anyone sitting idle or playing or busy with WhatsApp. No, you always find them engrossed in their work, and no annoyance or laziness ever appears in their work.

And also that they do not settle for what is required of them. And this is indeed a noble and important trait. Many employees in hospitals and elsewhere, if this thing is required of them, they will do it. If it is not required of them, they will say to you: "No, it's not my duty or in my field." But our brothers in the Hussein Center, I have noticed more than once that they are not like this.

On the contrary, for example, we once needed an image to confirm the presence of a blood clot in my mother, may God have mercy on her, and it was a Saturday. Naturally, the Doppler ultrasound was not available, the appropriate imaging was not available. So, the emergency department contacted the imaging department: "We have a case, is it within your scope to come?" They did not say: "No, we are not obliged today is Saturday." But they said: "Bring her." And the doctor, may God bless her and reward her with goodness, whose name I do not mention, performed the image.

Of course, many of those mentioned and others from the center came to my mother's condolences, and this is a kind gesture from them that it is not just a work relationship and that's it, but there is a kind and noble touch in dealing.

And of course, brothers, there are many who helped us in this period from outside the center. I ask God to reward them with goodness on our behalf. And this is in addition to many who were with us in happy days before six or seven years in the center, may God have mercy on her. So, we thank them all and ask God to reward them with goodness on our behalf.

A Moving Incident from Sara's Days

The last incident I remember from Sara's days tells you about nobility and high morals. My daughter, may God have mercy on her, six years ago, on the day of her death, it was Friday, she died on Saturday morning or on Friday night to Saturday. On Friday, as if she felt it, she asked to approach the window and see the world. So, two nurses came with eagerness and great concern and tried to move the bed, a large bed of course, from the window because of some complications in the intravenous drugs and the gas cylinder and the gas source and long stories. So, I remember that they tried for about three-quarters of an hour, and God knows best, with great efforts to bring Sara closer to the window. I will never forget this incident for them, and I do not remember their names, but it is enough that God Almighty remembers and knows.

Prayer and Advice

And I cannot reward the mentioned ones, and it is enough that God Almighty will reward them, God willing. And I urge all my brothers in the center to give more. The words of the poor servant and the mention of you by people are diminished before the knowledge of God Almighty about your deeds.

"Verily, Allah does not let the reward of the good-doers go to waste, verily, Allah does not let the reward of the good-doers go to waste."

Peace be upon you and the mercy of God and His blessings.
