How to Overcome the Fear of the Unknown?

A person with wealth may become poor, a healthy person may fall ill with a chronic disease, a secure person may be frightened, and someone who loves another deeply may lose their beloved. So, do you want to know how to overcome the fear of the unknown future?

The First Solution: The Decision to Accept Destiny

Simply, make a decision to accept destiny, no matter what it is. Now, make this decision and say: "O Allah, I have submitted myself to You, so return me with Your decree, whatever it may be, and be kind to me, O Lord of the worlds." Whenever the thought of fear of the unknown comes to you, renew the covenant and promise that you will accept it, and trust in Allah's help for you.

If you do this, you will not fear the future, for it is no longer unknown, but has become an open page for you. How? Simply, you are now, after making this decision, certain that everything that happens is for your good and benefit.

Did not the Prophet, peace be upon him, say: "How wonderful is the affair of the believer! For him, all his affairs are good, and this is for none but the believer." And some of them come in an ugly cover. Does the form of the covers matter to you if you know that the gifts inside are precious, valuable, and great? Likewise, if you know that everything that will happen in the future is for your benefit, you will not care much whether it is in a cover of trial or a cover of blessing.

Therefore, after you make a decision of gratitude in prosperity and patience in adversity, do not say: "I do not know if the future holds good or evil for me." According to the words of the Prophet, peace be upon him, the future holds only good for you in this case.

The Future is Not Unknown

The beautiful thing is that you are the one who draws your future with the permission of Allah. It is not a matter of unknown destinies that will lead you astray, but you who determine the outcomes and results of future events. It is no longer important how things appear: poverty or wealth, health or illness, the survival of loved ones or their death. You are the one who will make all of this turn to your benefit and good with the permission of Allah. All you have to do is make the decision to accept.

Dealing with Doubts

I think I know what you are saying to yourself now. You will say: "Even if I make a decision to accept, Allah may decree that I will not accept and will not be patient." I will not treat this fear from this point, but Allah, the Most High, will treat it. And who is more truthful than Allah in speech? Did not Allah, the Most High, say: "Whoever makes a decision to accept, Allah will guide his heart and strengthen him and support him"?

Also, the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, treats this fear for you when he said in the hadith narrated by Imam Muslim: "And whoever is patient, Allah will make him patient." So, hasten and make the decision, and do not say: "Allah may decree that I will not be patient afterwards." If you are patient, then Allah, the Most High, is more gentle and merciful that He will not make you impatient.

You may say: "I try to make the decision to accept, but I feel insincerity in that, because I fear that the trial may be too severe for me to bear." We will also work together to get rid of this fear when we contemplate the name of Allah the Wise and His name the Helper in the coming episodes, with the permission of Allah, the Most High.

Building Love for Allah

You may say: "I can make the decision now because I love Allah, the Most High, but if I am tested with a great trial, I fear that my love for Allah will be affected." We will also work together, with the permission of Allah, the Most High, to rebuild our love for Allah, the Most High, on solid foundations, so that our hearts may be reassured by the company and help of Allah, whatever the circumstances.

The Divine Address to the Believer

What is required of you now is only to make a decision to accept, to believe, trust, and be certain of the wisdom and mercy of Allah, the Most High, and then make a decision to accept and complete submission, so that you may be included in the address that the Most Merciful directed to His noble Prophet, where He said: {And be patient for the decree of your Lord, for indeed, you are under Our eyes} [At-Tur: 48]. That is, do not fear, you are in Our care and protection, Our mercy and kindness surround you.

Make the decision to accept, and then you will feel that Allah, the Most High, loves you. Did not the Prophet, peace be upon him, say: "And Allah gives the world to whom He loves and to whom He does not love, but He does not give faith except to whom He loves"? Acceptance is faith, if it afflicts you, then know that Allah loves you. And then you will be reassured that Allah, the Most High, wants good for you, no matter what happens to you in the future. Is it conceivable that He tests you and accepts you because He wants evil for you? No, by Allah, but your patience and acceptance of destiny is only because He wants good for you and loves you.

Look then how you will look positively at the decrees of Allah, the Most High. The One who decrees these things for you is your beloved who loves you, decrees things and decrees with love. If He decrees illness for you, it is with love, and if He decrees poverty for you, it is with love. Look at the tranquility and happiness that will overwhelm you at that time, while you are the one who makes the decision with the permission of Allah.

Conclusion and Advice

The conclusion of the episode: Make a decision to accept to get rid of fear forever. Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
