Peace be upon you. Who was the Caliph Suleiman the Lawgiver? And what is the purpose of portraying him as a sultan immersed in desires?
Firstly, my brothers, should we accept our history from our enemies? If what is called the "Holy Bible," which Jews and Christians adhere to, fabricates lies about the Prophet Solomon, peace be upon him, claiming in (1 Kings) that in his old age, his wives turned his heart towards other gods! Far be it from the Prophet Solomon, peace be upon him. If they say that about a Prophet, what do you expect them to say about the Caliph Suleiman, who humiliated them in the dust? Even the German historian Halmer said: "This sultan was more dangerous to us than Saladin himself."
The enemies of Islam burned the libraries of Baghdad, Cordoba, Granada, and Jerusalem, burning our books and then writing our history themselves! Therefore, it is our duty to learn about the caliph from the books of Muslim scholars and historians who were contemporaries and close to him.
The contemporary jurist historian Taskopruzade praised him in his book (Al-Kawakib al-Saier), and Ahmad bin Yusuf al-Qaramanli in his book (Akhbar al-Duwal) said: "He was, may God have mercy on him, high-spirited, a scholar, and an encourager to the utmost, and he was known in the horizons for justice and goodness."
Similarly, the jurist historian Ibn Hajar al-Haythami in his book (Al-Durar al-Kamina) said about him: "He remained in the caliphate for forty-nine years, and he was a warrior in the path of God, a fighter for the support of God's religion, and he was a reviver of the religion of this Muhammadan community in the tenth century."
Suleiman assumed the caliphate after his father Selim I in 926 AH, and he was then 26 years old. He sent a message to the kings of Europe ordering them to pay the tribute prescribed for them, but the king of Hungary did nothing but kill the caliph's messenger. The sultan was enraged and said: "Is the envoy of the Islamic state to be killed?"
He prepared a massive army and went out himself, conquering the city of "Belgrade" (the current capital of Serbia), and entered it on the 26th of Ramadan, ordering the call to prayer to be raised from its fortress. This was the beginning of his march towards Hungary, and his awe fell upon the hearts of the kings of Europe and Russia, so they sent their congratulations on the conquests and gave the tribute with their hands while they were humbled.
Suleiman, as described by Ibn Hajar, was "humbling to the believers and honoring to the disbelievers." Among his achievements:
His caliphate covered more than 30 countries of the current era, extending across three continents:
The historian Mahmud bin Said Mombasa said about him: "There was no one more jihadist and supportive of the religion and more suppressing of the people of sedition, innovation, and disbelief than him, may God have mercy on him."
The caliph took care of building the areas he opened civilly at a time when Europe was drowning in its ignorance; the Church burned and excommunicated those who disagreed with its scientific fallacies, such as "Copernicus," who was contemporary to the Caliph Suleiman and whose blood was shed for saying that the earth is not the center of the universe.
The caliph also felt his responsibility towards all Muslims; the Greek island of "Rhodes" was inhabited by Crusaders called the "Knights of St. John," who raided Muslim ships heading to the Hijaz, killing men and dishonoring women. The caliph conquered it after a siege that lasted six months and gave the Christians of the castle safety for their churches and religion.
At a time when the Pope of the Vatican was confronting "Martin Luther's" call with killing, burning, and torture, the caliph had issued a law preventing Jews from residing in Palestine; he did not want you to know this honorable history today.
After a long history of jihad and the glory of Muslims, the caliph wanted to complete the conquest of Hungary, which was supported by European countries such as Germany for fear of the Ottoman advance. The caliph had reached the age of 74, and his doctor advised him not to go out because of his illness, so his answer was: "I love to die as a warrior in the path of God."
Finally, the city of "Szigetvar" was conquered, and the fall of the empire that lasted nearly six centuries was completed. When the news reached him as he was dying, he said: "Now death is sweet," and he died, may God have mercy on him. The Muslims mourned deeply, while the Christians rang their church bells in joy at their liberation from "the reviver of jihad in the tenth century."
Should we believe the description of Ibn Hajar al-Haythami, who said about him: "He does not know deceit and treachery, avoids bad temper, and does not know cunning and hypocrisy, but he is pure of heart and sincere in belief"? Or should we believe "Meral Okay," who came to us after 500 years with the filth of the caliph's enemies to compose for us the series "The Sultan's Harem"?
The drama portrays the caliph as a corrupt man who drinks alcohol and is moved by women, and this is sheer fabrication. As for what is said that he killed his son Mustafa by the instigation of his wife "Roxelana" (Khurrem Sultan) in cooperation with "Rustem Pasha," I searched long to find any document from the early books that testifies to this, but I did not find it.
So, do we believe the good conduct of the caliph that is evident and his widespread justice for forty-nine years, or what the Europeans claim they learned from "the whisper of the sultan's wife to him in his bedroom"? The American historian "Harold Lamb," who elaborated on portraying Roxelana as cunning in his book (Suleiman the Magnificent), is the same one who said that the day of the caliph's death was one of the Christian holidays!
The issue is not an issue of a series or a person, the caliph Suleiman; it is the systematic war on the principle of the caliphate itself. It is a history that is distorted and minds that are obscured, to make Muslims imagine that they are intruders on humanity with no roots or history to be proud of.
Our enemies achieve three goals with their series:
Would a Muslim be pleased to open his heart, eyes, and ears to the filth of those who want to settle accounts with the Ottoman state and take their revenge on Islam and Muslims through these series?
Peace be upon you and the mercy of God and His blessings.
