Episode 11 - How Could You Have the Heart to Do It?
How Can You Do This to Your Heart?
Subscribe to the channel. And our beloved, may He be glorified and exalted, said Allah the Most High: {And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their chastity, and not to display their adornments except that which is apparent, and to draw their veils over their chests.} [Quran 24:31]
Interpretation of the Verse of the Hijab
Before this, women would reveal their hair, necks, and part of their chests, the area known as the "jayb." Then the command came from Allah the Most High to cover all of that with the khimar. The khimar linguistically means what covers the head, differing from the niqab which covers the face.
So, what is required of the Muslim woman after this verse is to cover her head, neck, and chest. We will not delve into the dispute over covering the face.
The Companions' Response to Allah's Command
See how the Muslim women responded to this verse? Did they say, "But O Messenger of Allah, the world is hot, especially in the hot atmosphere of the city"? Did they say, "We will wait until the tailor sews a hijab"? No, but their response was as reported by Bukhari that Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, used to say: "When this verse was revealed {And to draw their veils over their chests}, they - meaning the Muslim women - took their shawls and tore them from the edges and covered themselves with them," seeking reward and fearing punishment.
A Call to the Muslim Sister
My Muslim sister, how can you do this to your heart when you read this verse from Allah, the Most High, who says to you in it: {And to draw their veils over their chests and not to display their adornments except to their husbands, or their fathers, or the fathers of their husbands, or their sons} and He mentioned twelve categories to whom you may show your adornments or appear without a hijab.
How can you do this to your heart when you read this verse in Ramadan and outside of Ramadan, then after this you disobey the command of your Creator and your beloved, may He be glorified and exalted? As if you are saying: "No, my Lord, I will also show my adornments to the building guard, the car driver, the shop seller, my colleague at university, work, hospitals, the streets, and to everyone." As if the command of Allah does not concern you.
Do you expect to be affected by the Quran and increase in faith after that? Do you prefer to satisfy your desires over the pleasure of the Quran and the sweetness of faith? {Would you exchange that which is better for that which is lower?} [Quran 2:61]
A Call to Repentance and Success
My dear sister, notice the call of Allah the Most High at the end of this verse, the verse of the hijab, He calls you and says to you: {And all of you, O believers, repent to Allah, that you may be successful.} [Quran 24:31]
Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah. Translation by Nancy Qanqur.
