What After Gaza's Anger?

Servants of Allah, regarding what Gaza is going through from a brutal, unjust, criminal attack, and before that the repeated tragedies of Muslims, it is observed every time that the general Muslims are content with emotional, cathartic reactions. They share images with "Hasbi Allah wa ni'mal-wakeel" (Sufficient for me is Allah, and He is the best disposer of affairs), curses, insults, and swearing at the Jews and those who support them, guard them, and aid them in their crimes, poetry, weeping.

Sometimes, feelings mix in a hysterical way between sadness, then joy, then hope, then despair, then fear, then anger, then hypocrisy, then exaggeration, then seeking fame by trading in the tragedies of Muslims sometimes through posts, articles, and so on. All of this, brothers, does not bring a soul back to a body buried under the earth, nor does it compensate for a single child among hundreds or thousands or tens of thousands of orphans whose fathers or mothers have died, nor does it restore a severed limb, nor does it restore an eye that has been gouged out, nor does it cause the enemy even a minor scratch.

It is true that the state of boiling and media spotlight may sometimes reduce the intensity of the crime slightly, but in the end, this media boiling and emotional outbursts and popular anger are not sufficient to support our brothers nor to lift the sin from ourselves.

The Constraints Binding the Ummah

Our situation, brothers, is like that of someone who sees his brothers in prison and wants to help them. He shouts, cries, rises, runs around the prison, but in reality, there are chains on his legs, several chains: the chain of ignorance, the chain of desires, the chain of heart diseases. And there is a person holding these chains from the other end, looking at you and smiling. Shout, cry, curse, swear, run, do whatever you want. In the end, you will vent your anger and return to zero. It's fine, do as you please.

At this moment, someone comes to you and says, "Brother, come let's break the chain." You look at your leg, several chains, and you say to him, "Which chain are you talking about, brother?" Muslims are being slaughtered inside, the jailer is slaughtering them, flogging them, torturing them. You tell me to break the chains? We want an immediate, instant reaction now. Okay, as you wish, stay as you are, breathe, shout, cry, get angry, twist, run. In the end, nothing will change.

Our sins flogged them, our sins imposed on us. They are the ones who appear to be preventing the support of our brothers, but in the end, they are nothing but a natural product of our negligence and heedlessness. They are nothing but an outgrowth of our sins. If we do not break this chain, and if we remain stubborn, and if we do not realize that this chain must be broken with time, patience, and a long breath, nothing will change.

We do not want to laugh at ourselves and imagine that something will be resolved between evening and morning, and suddenly the entire ummah will rise and the thrones of tyranny will fall and the glories will return with the blink of an eye.

The Failure of Previous Revolutions

Brothers, if the matter is one of anger and revolutions, this has happened in the lands of the Muslims, but the hearts had not changed, ignorance had not been lifted, the curricula had not been corrected, and desires had not been removed. Therefore, our enemies succeeded in turning these revolutions and outbursts and quick emotions into a burden on us, they contained them, and often caused conflict among the Muslims themselves as we see with our own eyes.

This speech, of course, is not to discourage us from sympathizing with the Muslims, but I repeat: we say it so that we know that sympathy and emotions alone do not absolve responsibility nor support our brothers.

Brothers, personally, in this period that I have lived through, I have seen many emotional outbursts and tragedies of the Muslims, and in truth, I have not seen a change for the better. Therefore, there is a flaw, there is a laughable, tearful contradiction when we see that the Muslims every time sympathize, get excited, get angry, revolt, but after that there is no change except for the worse.

There is something wrong. In our lifetime, we have passed through the Sabra and Shatila massacre, the Ibrahimi Mosque massacre, the first and second Gaza wars, the war in southern Lebanon, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Nothing has changed, but rather for the worse socially in terms of sins, crimes, and transgressions. The crisis in Somalia, Mali, in Central Africa, multiple crises in Palestine, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, all Muslim countries are afflicted, Burma, Turkestan. Many crises have passed, and the media has reported them, and we have seen reactions from people, but in the end, nothing has changed for the better. Therefore, there must be a flaw.

What is Required After Anger: Converting Negative Energy into Positive Energy

In the end, the girl who cried yesterday about the situation in Gaza and posted pictures of Gaza's children returns to captivate the youth with her appearance and not covering herself with the legal hijab. As I said: the diseases of the country and you are one of its diseases, and the misfortune is its affliction, so have you sought its symptoms? O you who carried the axe, demolish it on its ruins. You moved, but you are not the one who seeks to raise it. And look with your eyes, the wolves are tired in their pools.

The vegetable and fruit vendors return to buy goods from the Jews, and the ready answer is always: "What do you want to do?" He is the one who cursed the Jews and those who supported and aided them yesterday. The engineer returns to ask you about the ruling on his participation in building or developing a base for a state that trains the enemies of Allah or fights them, and their planes take off from these bases, and he says to you: "If I do not do this task, someone else will do it. If I do not draw the plans, someone else will draw them." Glory be to Allah the Great.

He who fights them with his hand is a believer, and he who fights them with his tongue is a believer, and he who fights them with his heart is a believer, and there is not after that an atom's weight of faith. Some return to hypocrisy and flattery, knowing that the executioner would not have been free to rape the free woman inside the prison if the jailers had not guarded him. The young man returns to follow the series and shameful, disgraceful scenes, knowing that those in charge of these stations drag him by the halter of desire towards the abyss, and yet he submits to them. He returns to waste the hours of his life in what does not benefit the Muslims, does not read a beneficial book, does not seek the way to the glory of his nation.

So, what is required, brothers? Does this mean that what is required is to devote ourselves to knowledge and focus on the purification of souls and neglect the issues of the ummah and stop following its news? Where are we then from the saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him): "The example of the believers in their mutual love, mercy, and sympathy is like the example of a single body; when one part of it complains, the rest of the body responds with fever and sleeplessness"? Where are we then from the saying of Allah the Almighty: {The believers are but brothers}?

Therefore, what is required, brothers? It is not required that we bury our heads in the mud and ignore what is happening to our ummah. What is required of us then, brothers? What is required is to convert this boiling and this uprising into a driving positive force towards reforming our situation and breaking our chains. The car runs on fuel; if the fuel is placed in its appropriate channels, the car moves forward. If the fuel goes out of its appropriate channels, the car burns. Thus, we are; if this boiling does not find an appropriate outlet in the end, we will burn, regress, our nerves will cool down, and we may return worse than we were, as I mentioned earlier.

Practical Examples of Individual Change

Peace be upon you. How many brothers will say: "In support of Gaza, I will commit to prayer"? Of course, there will be those who will say directly: "The sheikh has reduced the issues of the nation to the hijab and prayer, praying so that people abandon jihad, talking about the hijab and prayer." No, by Allah, my lord, strive, strive, and do not diminish the importance of jihad, the pinnacle of Islam. If we remain as a nation sitting idle, not supporting it with our selves, our wealth, our words, or our support for the mujahideen brothers, we will be afflicted with more than this. But the matter, O nation, is to strive. O nation, you criticize others who are working. My brother, work and let others work, and let the caravan move on. How many times have I said this word, and what has it changed in the situation?

How many young men will say: "In support of Gaza, I will remove the bad images from the facade of my locality. I do not accept to add even a small straw to the fire that is kindled for my nation. I do not accept to blacken my heart and the hearts of Muslim youth with these ugly scenes that anger Allah, the Exalted?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will withdraw my money from the current interest-bearing account because I know that Allah, the Exalted, has declared war on the people of riba (usury)?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will start reading a book with my children, such as the book 'Thus Appeared the Generation of Salahuddin and Thus Jerusalem Returned to the Muslims'? Imagine how beautiful it is before and after breakfast, in the morning of the day, the father sits with his children: Come, my children, let us read for a quarter of an hour from this book so that we may raise you with a long-term, calm psychological upbringing. How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will do that?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will learn the biography of the Prophet, peace be upon him, and utilize the summer vacation opportunity, starting with the children, inviting them to the mosques, engaging them in activities so that I may teach them the biography of the beloved one and attach their hearts to him, his honor, his dignity, and his bravery, instead of the children being in the streets sometimes insulting the Lord and the religion and mocking those who pass by them with beards? We talk about supporting Gaza, and there is no attractive channel for children in the Arab Islamic world, at least as far as I know, that gathers in them the meanings of honor, dignity, pride, and bravery. Do not say, 'May Allah prevent us.' We always put up a banner on which we hang: 'May Allah prevent us.' The one who prevents us first and foremost is our own negligence, laziness, weakness, and lack of patience. Then we talk about supporting Gaza.

How many will say: "In support of Gaza, I will quit smoking and save this money to meet the needs of the poor, mercy for them, perhaps Allah will have mercy on us, for the Prophet of Allah, peace be upon him, said: 'The merciful will be shown mercy by the Most Merciful'?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will stop the hypocritical actions that I sometimes practice out of desire or fear, because I do not want to be part of those who conspire against the Islamic nation?" How many Muslims will say that?

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will leave backbiting, gossip, cursing, and swearing, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it purifies its tongues from these evils?" How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will leave lying, deceit, and slander against people, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it purifies its hearts from these diseases?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will begin memorizing the Book of Allah, the Exalted, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it returns to the Book of its Lord and the Sunnah of its Prophet, peace be upon him?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will begin seeking Islamic knowledge, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it returns to knowledge and scholars?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will begin calling to Allah, the Exalted, with wisdom and good preaching, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it fulfills the duty of enjoining good and forbidding evil?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will begin with charitable and relief work, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it unites and cooperates in righteousness and piety?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will begin raising my children on the love of jihad and martyrdom, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it prepares a righteous, jihadi generation?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will begin with patience, perseverance, and steadfastness, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it is patient and steadfast on the truth?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will begin with reliance on Allah, the Exalted, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it relies on its Lord with true reliance?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will begin with seeking forgiveness and repentance to Allah, the Exalted, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it purifies itself from its sins and transgressions?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will begin with supplication and humbling myself to Allah, the Exalted, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it raises the hands of supplication to its Lord?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will begin with unity and holding fast to the rope of Allah, the Exalted, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it is one hand on the truth?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will begin with justice and fairness among people, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it establishes justice on earth?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will begin with fulfilling covenants and pledges, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it is a nation that fulfills its covenants?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will begin with doing good to the neighbor, the guest, and the poor, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it is a nation that does good?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will begin with mercy towards the weak, the poor, the orphans, and the widows, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it is a merciful nation?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will begin with forgiveness and pardoning the wrongdoers, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it is a nation that pardons people?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will begin with patience in the face of harm for the sake of Allah, the Exalted, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it is a patient nation on the truth?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will begin with jihad in the way of Allah, the Exalted, with self, wealth, and tongue, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it is a nation of jihad?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will begin preparing to meet Allah, the Exalted, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it is a nation prepared to meet its Lord?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will begin with righteous deeds purely for the sake of Allah, the Exalted, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it is a nation working for Allah?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will begin cooperating with my Muslim brothers in righteousness and piety, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it is a cooperative nation?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will begin calling to Allah, the Exalted, in every place and time, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it is a nation that calls to Allah?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will begin being zealous for the religion of Allah, the Exalted, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it is a nation zealous for its religion?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will begin being proud of my religion and Islamic identity, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it is a nation proud of its religion?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will begin holding fast to the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace be upon him, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it is a nation holding fast to the Sunnah of its Prophet?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will begin being upright on the command of Allah, the Exalted, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it is a nation upright on the command of its Lord?"

How many Muslims will say: "In support of Gaza, I will begin with humility in prayer, and I know that this nation will not triumph unless it is a nation humble in its prayer?"
