What should we do on June 30?
Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah, dear beloved.
Our Stance on the Events of 30-6
As the day of 30-6 approaches, during which some forces are mobilizing against the rule of President Mohamed Morsi, what should our stance be? Firstly, it is clear that the situation is escalating and may lead to killing and fighting. Here, the Muslim must consider what he is fighting for, as this determines whether his defense and support are for the sake of Allah.
Here, it is necessary to differentiate between two scenarios:
The Disputed Arenas (Preserving the President or Toppling Him)
In the arenas where the dispute is about preserving the president or toppling him, such as around the Presidential Palace, for example, we have shown over the past year that the new rule raised the banner of Islam, which brings goodness to people in this world and the hereafter, but it did not fulfill this. Instead, it entrenched the secular system and abandoned the Sharia. It is enough for our brothers to obscure and confuse with phrases like "Islamic direction" and "Islamic touch" and "a step on the road." We have shown that there are no steps on the road, but rather the opposite, as in many episodes, including "You did not establish the Sharia, nor did you darken the people."
Moreover, the Muslim does not fight for future assumptions and emotional hopes, defending a distorted reality in the hope that these hopes will be realized through this reality. The Muslim offers his soul and his effort to support the clear truth. What is there after the truth except misguidance?
Therefore, the battle of preserving or toppling the president does not result in raising the word of Allah and His Sharia in either case. Instead, the slogan raised is that the word of the people should be supreme, and the truth is raising partisan interests and the will of the international system that is hostile to Allah and the nation of Islam, which the parties compete to serve and present themselves as obedient executors of its policies.
Therefore, this is not our battle, and it is not appropriate to be present in the arenas where this is the subject of dispute. The fighting there is not to make the religion all for Allah. The Prophet, peace be upon him, limited it by saying: "Whoever fights so that the word of Allah is supreme, he is in the way of Allah." Therefore, whoever fights or dies for anything other than that is not in the way of Allah.
Outside the Disputed Arenas (Defending Muslims and the Oppressed)
This is regarding the arenas where the dispute is about preserving or toppling the president. As for outside these arenas, if an aggression occurs against a Muslim, the right of Islamic brotherhood obliges us to defend him, not to support this unlawful rule, but rather the saying of the beloved Prophet, peace be upon him: "The Muslim is the brother of the Muslim; he does not oppress him nor hand him over." There is a need for clarity on this matter as we see criminals threatening to target anyone with an Islamic appearance. Our faith obliges us at that time not to leave them to what they intended.
What if an injustice occurs from some supporters of the president against someone who is not mocking the religion nor opposing the Sharia, but is objecting to the policies of the president? In this case, we also support this oppressed person and restrain his oppressor. Even if an injustice occurs against non-Muslims, we repel it because injustice is a sin that we are commanded to change.
Your defense and support in these places where you support the oppressed, whoever he may be, will all be for the sake of Allah. All of this is far from the arenas where the two sides dispute over the establishment of this unlawful rule or its replacement with another unlawful rule.
The Importance of Distinguishing the Islamic Movement
Therefore, I advise those who care about my opinion among my brothers not to align with either side. I will not delve here into the issue of equating or not equating their individuals on a personal level, for the matter is with the methodology that each group supports. With the divergence of methodologies and our not equating them, neither of them is the pure, correct methodology for which souls are sacrificed.
I believe that this resolves a dilemma for many of my brothers who agree with us on the unlawfulness of this rule but call for standing with the supporters of the president, preferring them over the other group in which there are many clear enemies of the Sharia. This preference, my brothers, does not justify supporting them on a false cause. In the hadith, "Support your brother, whether he is an oppressor or an oppressed," the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, explained it by saying, "Prevent him from oppression, for that is supporting him," and he did not say, peace be upon him, support him in his falsehood if it is less false than the falsehood of others.
The second important point, my brothers, is that it is necessary at this time to show and strongly present an Islamic movement that distinguishes itself from the two sides and disassociates from their agendas. This is what I have been calling for since I was released from prison a year and a half ago, but they are scattered and their efforts are not coordinated. It is time for them to coordinate their efforts and descend into the arena.
Reasons for the Importance of This Movement's Emergence
The importance of the emergence and effective work of this movement in the arenas lies in several points:
- The Correct Solution for the Rejecters: It is the correct solution for those who reject the propositions of both sides but do not want to be passive towards this conflict. Here, we ask sincerely: Why do our brothers treat the matter as if it is necessary to align with one of the two sides and support one falsehood over a more severe falsehood? Why do we not coordinate our efforts in a third pure current?
- Depriving the Enemies of Islam: The emergence of this current deprives the remnants and the secularists of the opportunity to reduce Islamic rule to this failed party experience and then exclude it by excluding them. Those who openly declare that after the fall of the Islamists, there is no policy in religion and no religion in politics.
- Stopping the Farce of Mobilizing in the Name of Sharia: The emergence of a pure current deprives the supporters of the president of continuing the farce of mobilizing in the name of Sharia and treating Sharia as a blind old man whose remains are paraded after being buried and led to the field so that people gather around him in hope of his blessing, only to return him to his grave again.
- Rescuing the Beliefs of the People: The fourth and most important reason for the emergence of this distinct current is to rescue the beliefs of the general public from the pollution of the Islamic project in their eyes. They see all Islamic factions in their view supporting this distorted rule, seeing that the Islamic project in its entirety has exhausted its arrows in this rule and is satisfied with it as its representative and defender of its falsehood. Even if this reduction does not lead to distorting the image of Islam itself in the minds of the people, it will lead them to reject the principle of Islamic rule altogether, at least on the basis of the absence of someone who is qualified to carry out this rule as long as the Islamic factions are united in supporting this monstrous rule that did not establish Sharia nor respond to the demands of the people.
Our alignment with the supporters of the president will facilitate the task of the other team that wants to reduce the Islamic project to this failed model. He controls his thinking on how to protect himself in this battle that others want to exterminate him. While it is befitting for us to adhere to the saying of Allah the Almighty: {So do not fear the people, but fear Me}.
How Do We Fear Allah?
How do we fear Allah? By supporting the Sharia that many of us have abandoned and distorted its image in the minds of the people. Supporting it is a repentance to Allah from our negligence. This is what should dominate our minds when we want to take a stance. At that time, Allah defends those who believe. But if our chest is in patching and obscuring out of fear for ourselves, then Allah entrusts us to ourselves and imposes upon us whom we feared as we feared Allah, and intensified fear.
Characteristics of the Pure Third Current
Supporting the Sharia in this situation requires a distinct, pure third current that is active and engaged. This current does not trade with religion nor does it trade with the lack of religion. It is a current that declares its innocence from the methodology of both groups, not for worldly calculations nor due to their failure to meet living interests, but rather for the sake of religion and to preserve the principle that all matters and all judgment belong to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.
A current that is devoid of personal desires, it reformulates the sublime slogans of the Sharia in a manner that purifies them from the exploitation by some for electoral gains. It clarifies that these slogans should not merely be slogans but rather a methodology of life and a genuine program for governance. It works on formulating this program and inviting people to adopt it, first and foremost in servitude to Allah, and secondly to achieve the promised honor and blessings, even if it requires sacrificing lives.
This current is the one that deserves to be among those mentioned by the Prophet, peace be upon him, when he said: "Islam began as something strange, and it will return to being strange as it began, so blessed are the strangers." It was said, "Who are the strangers, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "They are those who rectify what the people have corrupted of my Sunnah." They rectify what the people have corrupted, including those who are called Islamic, rectifying what they have corrupted of the religion and Sharia instituted by the Prophet. They will begin as strangers, but we are glad that after labor pains, they will win the hearts, trust, and love of the people, and lead them to the good of this world and the Hereafter.
O Allah, make us among them. Our Lord, employ us in Your obedience and make us among Your supporters. Make us among those who love You to the people and make the people love You. Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah.
