Peace be upon you and the mercy and blessings of God. May God welcome you, my brothers and sisters, to this session of the competition "A Clarification for All Things." Today, we have questions from the seventeenth and eighteenth parts of the Quran, and the questions are generally easy as we have accustomed you. We ask everyone to confirm the quality of the sound and image so that we may begin with the blessing of God.
Question: A word meaning "to restrict," the misunderstanding of which leads to a major misconception of one of the verses. What is this word?
Answer: The word is (Naqdir) in the words of the Almighty regarding Jonah, peace be upon him: {And he thought that We would not "Naqdir" over him}. Some mistakenly think the meaning comes from "power and ability," and this is not appropriate for a prophet. Rather, the meaning here is from "restriction." As in the words of the Almighty: {But when He tries him and "Qadara" (restricts) his provision for him}, meaning He restricted it for him.
Interpretative Guidance: There are two considered opinions regarding the verse:
Question: A position of steadfastness from the Prophet, peace be upon him, in which the Quran attributes the credit to God Almighty. Mention three words containing this attribution. (This question is from the fifteenth part).
Answer: The words are: {And if We had not strengthened you}.
Interpretative Guidance: God Almighty says: {And indeed, they were about to tempt you away from that which We revealed to you in order to forge against Us something else... And if We had not strengthened you, you would have almost inclined to them a little}. Ibn Ashur points out that the disbelievers tried to lure the Prophet, peace be upon him, by distinguishing them with special gatherings away from the weak, and their hidden goal was to drag him into fabricating against God. Had it not been for God’s strengthening of His Prophet, he might have inclined toward them slightly for the benefit of the call, but God protected him. This is one of the greatest proofs that the Quran is from God, as it attributes the credit for steadfastness to God alone.
Question: The poet said: "Placing generosity in the place of the sword in high matters is as harmful as placing the sword in the place of generosity." Mention a verse that censures gentleness and compassion when they are out of place.
Answer: The words of the Almighty regarding the punishment for adultery: {And let not pity for them withhold you from the religion of God}.
Interpretative Guidance: Ibn Taymiyyah mentioned in the Fatwas that God forbade negligence in carrying out punishments, because Satan might make it seem to people that this is a matter of mercy and gentleness, while in reality, it is humiliation, weakness of faith, and assistance in sin. This balance protects society from corruption and the destruction of lineages.
Question: A friend said to you: Why do we make people fear God and not suffice with hope? You were struck by a verse describing creatures who never disobeyed God and yet they fear Him. Mention four words that indicate this.
Answer: The words are: {And they, from fear of Him, are apprehensive}.
Interpretative Guidance: The verse describes the angels in Surah Al-Anbiya. They are honored servants, they exalt Him night and day and do not slacken, yet they are apprehensive out of fear of God because of His greatness and their knowledge of His majesty. If this is the state of the angels who do not disobey God, then what about us? The believer always needs a balance between fear and hope.
Question: Mention two verses from today's parts that carry the meaning of the Almighty's words: {And as for man, when his Lord tries him and generous to him and favors him, he says: My Lord has honored me}.
Answer: The words of the Almighty: {Do they think that what We extend to them of wealth and children is because We hasten for them good things? Rather, they do not perceive}.
Interpretative Guidance: Not every blessing is an honor; it may be a gradual entrapment. If you see God bestowing blessings upon you while you persist in disobeying Him, then beware, for it is only a respite. The true measure is closeness to God and acting in obedience to Him.
Question: People of falsehood present doubts, and the people of knowledge refute them, thereby increasing in certainty and seeing the beauties of the religion. Mention a verse that reminds you of this meaning.
Answer: The words of the Almighty: {And that those who have been given knowledge may know that it is the truth from your Lord and [therefore] believe in it, and their hearts may humbly submit to it}.
Interpretative Guidance: The doubt cast by Satan is a trial for those with diseased hearts, but for the people of knowledge, it increases their firmness because they see the collapse of falsehood before the power of truth. As Dr. Draz said: "Every doubt raised against the truth, the truth will turn into an argument for itself."
Question: One of the signs of the acceptance of worship is that it increases the person's fear of God and does not make them arrogant or feel falsely secure. Mention a verse that indicates this.
Answer: The words of the Almighty: {And those who give what they give while their hearts are fearful because they will be returning to their Lord}.
Interpretative Guidance: The believer gathers the conditions of acceptance, such as sincerity and following the prophetic way, and rejoices in God's grace and success in obedience. But at the same time, he increases in glorification and awe of God, fearing shortcoming or falling into sins. This "fear" is evidence of the heart's life and its lack of arrogance regarding its deeds.
Question: Mention two words indicating that this Quran is an honor for those who act according to what is in it.
Answer: The words of the Almighty: {In it is your mention} in Surah Al-Anbiya: {We have certainly sent down to you a Book in which is your mention. Then will you not reason?}.
Interpretative Guidance: Al-Tabari suggests that "your mention" means "your honor." Whoever follows this Quran is honored and ennobled by it in this world and the hereafter. We see this clearly in the sincere scholars whose mention God has raised despite trials, while those who flattered oppressors and sold their religion for worldly gain fell in the eyes of the people.
Question: A friend of yours is overwhelmed by the use of philosophy in his calling. Mention four words that show him he has deviated from the path of the prophets.
Answer: The words of the Almighty: {Say: I only warn you by revelation}.
Interpretative Guidance: The pillar of the call, the warning, and the glad tidings is revelation (the Book and the Sunnah). Whatever good exists in philosophies is present in the Quran in a more complete and clearer manner. Turning away from revelation to other human methodologies is a deviation from the straight path commanded by the Prophet, peace be upon him.
Question: Abandoning worship is a humiliation for the one who leaves it. Mention seven words from a verse that reminds you of this meaning.
Answer: The words of the Almighty: {And he whom God humiliates - for him there is no bestower of honor}.
Interpretative Guidance: The verse in Surah Al-Hajj came after mentioning the prostration of all creatures to God Almighty, then He said: {And many for whom the punishment has become justified. And he whom God humiliates - for him there is no bestower of honor}. Whoever is too arrogant to worship God, God humiliates him. Whoever leaves the servitude to God, in which there is pride and dignity, becomes a slave to his desires, to Satan, or to humans, and this is the true humiliation.
C'est ainsi que nous arrivons à la fin des questions de cette session.
